The side walls (1) being movably connected to the bottom part (2) via hinges. The two long-side walls (5 and 6 respectively), are provided with a crenelated upper edge (51 and 61 respectively) the shape of the respective crenelated upper edges (51 and 61 respectively) being arranged so that the respective two long side walls (5 and 6 respectively) will match each other when the long side walls (51 and 61 respectively) are collapsed.

Description

Collapsible container with extended height
The present invention relates to a collapsible container for transport and storage having an improved inner volume capacity by having extended height on side walls.
Containers made from different materials such as wood, metal, plastic etc. are frequently used. One problem with such containers are that they often demand the same transport volume when returned to the source as when delivered with goods.
An alternative to the return transport is a so-called one way package which is disposed of after delivery.
Another common way to solve the problem is to provide the package with a so-called nesting function. This means that empty containers are partly placed in one another, by providing the containers with sloping sides.
Yet another way to solve the problem is to dismantle or fold the sides of the container. The mostly known side dismantling is the pallet and pallet collar. An example of commonly used containers with foldable sides is the collapsible pallet container. The sides are here made foldable by attaching their respective lower end to the bottom part via a hinge.
A disadvantage with this type of container is that the inner height of the container is limited by the length of the short side edge. This implies that, with the foot-print dimensions 600x400 mm, which is a common dimension, the maximum height of the side wall will be 200 mm without having the two long side walls overlap when folded. Such an overlapping is of course possible, but the height of a collapsed container will then also increase and a desired property will be lost. It is possible to make an upper portion of such a side wall thinner in the area where the two side walls overlap. Such a solution is known from EP 0 785 140. The stacking strength will however be somewhat decreased which could lead to some problems.
The above mentioned problems have been solved through the present invention whereby a collapsible container with extended height for transport and storage has been achieved. The container comprising a bottom part and inwards foldable side walls. The side walls are movably connected to the bottom part via hinges. The invention is characterised in that the two long-side walls, are provided with a crenelated upper edge. The shape of the respective crenelated upper edges are arranged so that the respective two long side walls will match each other when the long side walls are collapsed.
The crenelated upper edges preferably have raised and recessed portions the raised portions extending beyond a longitudinal centre line of the bottom part when the long side walls are in a collapsed state.
The crenelated upper edges preferably have raised and recessed portions the recessed portions are not extending beyond a longitudinal centre line of the bottom part when the long side walls are in a collapsed state. The short side walls suitably has an upper rim reaching a height corresponding to the height of the raised portion of the crenelated upper edges of the long side walls when in an erected state.
The invention is explained further together with enclosed drawings, all showing the same embodiment of the invention wherein,
-figure 1 shows, in perspective view seen from above, a collapsible container 1 with the side walls 3, 4, 5, 6 in an upright position.
-figure 2 shows, in perspective view, the container 1 from figure 1 in a collapsed state.
Accordingly, figure 1 shows in perspective seen from above, a collapsible container 1 with the side walls 3, 4, 5, 6 in an upright position while figure 2 shows, in perspective view, the container 1 from figure 1 in a collapsed state. The container 1 has extended height and is used for transport and storage. The container 1 comprises a bottom part 2 and inwards foldable side walls 3, 4, 5 and 6. The side walls 1 are movably connected to the bottom part 2 via hinges. The two long-side walls 5 and 6 respectively, are provided with a crenelated upper edge 51 and 61 respectively. As best viewed in figure 2 the shape of the respective crenelated upper edges 51 and 61 respectively are arranged so that the respective two long side walls 5 and 6 respectively will match each other when the long side walls 51 and 61 respectively are collapsed. As best viewed in figure 1 the crenelated upper edges 51 and 61 respectively have raised and recessed portions 7 and 8 respectively. The raised portions 7 extends beyond a longitudinal centre line (see figure 2) of the bottom part 2 when the long side walls 51 and 61 respectively are in a collapsed state. The crenelated upper edges 51 and 61 respectively further have recessed portions 8 which are not extending beyond a longitudinal centre line of the bottom part 2 when the long side walls 51 and 61 respectively are in a collapsed state.
Referring now to figure 1 showing that the short side walls 3 and 4 respectively have an upper rim 31 and 41 respectively reaching a height corresponding to the height of the raised portion of the crenelated upper edges 51 and 61 respectively of the long side walls 5 and 6 respectively when in an erected state.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment shown, since it can be varied in different ways within the scoop of the invention.
