Description

Description
[ 1 ] A VARIABLE TOOTHBRUSH
[2] Technical Field
[3] The present invention relates to a toothbrush, and more particularly, to a toothbrush with a variable brush head capable of freely changing a ratio of longitudinal size to lateral size of the brush head with toothbrush bristles implanted thereon by simply operating a handle to effectively manage a mouth of a user, by which the inside and outside of teeth can be effectively brushed by use of a single toothbrush.
[4] Background Art
[5] Teeth and mouth are merely a part of human body, but have close relationship with the health of a man since they are entrance into a digestive organ and a part of a respiratory organ, thus the toothbrush and the brushing for keeping oral hygiene clean can be said to be very important.
[6] Under a desirable brushing method, an outer surface of teeth is to be brushed very smoothly by slanting the toothbrush with respect to a gum at about 45 degrees and moving the toothbrush shortly forward and backward across the width corresponding half of the teeth width, whereas an inner surface of teeth is to be brushed using a front part of the toothbrush by standing the toothbrush vertically and moving it upward and downward.
[7] According to such a desirable brushing method, it is preferable for a brush head with toothbrush bristles implanted thereon to have dimensions of long longitudinal length and narrow lateral width when brushing an outside of teeth, as a normal toothbrush, but to have a dimension of large lateral width when brushing an inner side of the teeth.
[8] However, a conventional toothbrush is generally formed to have a shape of long longitudinal length and narrow lateral width, and the shape is preferable to the brushing of the outside of teeth. When brushing the inside of teeth with standing up the toothbrush, only a portion of the toothbrush is used, thereby lowering the effectiveness of brushing.
[9] Disclosure of thelnvention
[10] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to solve the problem involved in the prior art, and to provide a toothbrush with a variable brush head capable of freely changing a ratio of longitudinal size to lateral size of the brush head with toothbrush bristles implanted thereon by simply operating a handle to effectively manage a mouth of a user, by which the inside and outside of teeth can be effectively brushed by use of a single toothbrush.
[11] In order to achieve the above object, there is provided a toothbrush with a variable brush head comprising: a variable brush head made of a silicon material and having toothbrush bristles implanted thereon and an active band of elastic material embedded therein; a wire with one end fixed to an outside of the active band, a handle connected to the variable brush head and having a through hole therein, through which the wire passes; and an operator engaged to one end of the handle and also engaged to the other end of the wire to move the handle forward/backward, in which dimensions of longitudinal length and lateral width of the variable brush head is varied by forward/ backward movement of wire resulted from the operator.
[12] According to one embodiment of the present invention, thetoothbrush is characterized in that the handle is provided at one end thereof with a threaded hole for threadedly engaging with the operator, and that the operator has a threaded stud provided on an outer surface thereof with a threaded portion to engage with the threaded hole of the handle, and a rotary head rotated by a user, in which the threaded stud supports the other end of the wire by making it pass through the stud and preventing twist of the wire.
[13] According to one embodiment of the present invention, thetoothbrush is characterized in that the operator is provided with a through hole receiving the wire for preventing twist of the wire and an inner space for communicating with the through hole, and that the wire is provided at the other end thereof with a stop portion which is located in the inner space of the operator and is retained therein.
[14] According to one embodiment of the present invention, thetoothbrush is characterized in that the active band is formed of a band of synthetic resin having a plate- shaped cross section, and is connected to one end of the wire, and the band is provided with a through hole at opposite side of the band, through which the wire passes.

[21] Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing a varied state of the toothbrush with a variable brush head in FIG. 3.
[22] Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
[23] Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a toothbrush according to one embodiment of the present invention to illustrate a structure of the toothbrush cut in the transverse direction. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the toothbrush in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along a line A-A in Fig.2.
[24] As shown in Figs. 1 to 3, a toothbrush with a variable brush head according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, generally indicated at 1, includesa variable brush head 20 made of a silicon material and having toothbrush bristles 10 implanted thereon and an active band 21 of elastic material embedded therein; a wire 30 with one end 31 fixed to an outside of the active band 21; a handle 40 connected to the variable brush head 20 and having a through hole 41 therein, through which the wire 30 passes; and an operator 50 engaged to one end of the handle 40 and also engaged to the other end of the wire 30 to move the handle 40 forward/backward.
[25] Dimensions of longitudinal length and lateral width of the variable brush head 20 can be varied by forward/backward movement of the wire 30 resulted from the operator 50.
[26] The brush head 20 is formed with a through hole for receiving the wire 30.
[27] Preferably, the handle 40 is provided at one end thereof with a threaded hole 43 for threadedly engaging with the operator 50. The operator 50 has a threaded stud 51 provided on an outer surface thereof with a threaded portion to engage with the threaded hole 43 of the handle 40, and a rotary head 53 rotated by a user. The threaded stud 51 supports the other end of the wire 30 bymaking it pass through the studand preventing twist of the wire.
[28] Preferably, the rotary head 53 is provided on a periphery surface thereof with a plurality of teeth to prevent a finger of the user from being slid thereon.
[29] It is preferable that the operator 50 is provided with a through hole 55 receiving the wire 30 for preventing twist of the wire 30 and an inner space 57 for communicating with the through hole 55. The wire 30 is provided at the other end thereof with a stop portion 33 which is located in the inner space 57 of the operator 50 and is retained therein. [30] It is preferable that the active band 21 is formed of a band of synthetic resin having a plate-shaped cross section and is connected to the one end of the wire. The band is provided with a through hole 21a at opposite side of the band, through which the wire 30 passes.
[31] The active band 21 may be formed of a ring of synthetic resin having a circular cross section as shown in Fig. 4.
[32] Reference will be made to the operation of the variable toothbrush 1 according to the present invention with reference to Fig. 5 showing the varied state of the toothbrush.
[33] The present invention includes thevariable brush head 20 made of the silicon material with the toothbrush bristles 10 implanted thereon and the active band 21 of elastic material embedded therein. One end of the wire 30 is fixed to the outside of the active band 21 of the variable brush head 20. When the wire 30 is pulled using the operator 50 provided at the end of the handle, the longitudinal length of the brush head 20 is decreased, and the lateral width of the brush head is increased as if the brush head is pressed from upward.
[34] When the operator 50 is rotated and then retracted from the handle 40, the wire 30 with the other end supported to the operator is retracted together with the operator. Accordingly, the active band 21 of the variable brush head 20 to which the one end of the wire is fixed is pulled such that a shape of the active band is varied and thus a shape of the brush head 20 of flexible material formed integrally with the active band is changed with increasing lateral width and decreasing longitudinal length as the brush head is pressed.
[35] Also, when the operator 50 rotates back its original position, the shape of the brush head 20 is returned to its original state, i.e. a normal toothbrush shape with long longitudinal length and narrow lateral width.
[36] Accordingly, after brushing the outside of teeth with the toothbrush having a normal shape of long longitudinal length, the operator rotates to deform the shape of the brush head as appropriate to brush inside of teeth, i.e. as a shape having increased lateral width, so that the deformed toothbrush moves upward and downward in a vertical standing state to brush teeth.
[37] If the lateral width of the toothbrush increases as described above, most of the bristles implanted in the brush head come to contact with the gum and teeth, which leads effective brushing of teeth.
[38] When brushing of the inside of teeth has been finished, the operator 50 rotates back to its original position so that the brush head 20 returns to its original shape, i.e. normal toothbrush shape.
[39] As described above, the present invention accomplishes more effective management of mouth by freely changing a ratio of longitudinal size to lateral size of the brush head into which the toothbrush bristles 10 are implanted, with a simple operation of rotating the operator 50 provided at an end of the handle 40 such that the inside and the outside of teeth can be effectively brushed using one toothbrush.
[40] While the present invention has been described and illustrated herein with reference to the preferred embodiments thereof, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Thus, it is intended that the present invention covers the modifications and variations of this invention that come within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents.
[41] Industrial Applicability
[42] As the above description, the toothbrush of the present invention has an advantage in that a ratio of longitudinal size to lateral size of the brush head with toothbrush bristles implanted thereon can be freely changed by simply operating a handle to effectively manage a mouth of a user, by which an inside and outside of teeth can be effectively by use of a single toothbrush.
