Abstract

A winged vehicle (20) has an elongated fuselage (22), and a wing mechanism (38) affixed to the fuselage (22). The wing mechanism (38) includes a pivot track (40) affixed to and extending lengthwise along the fuselage (22), a pivot body (42) engaged to and translatable along the pivot track (40). A pair of wings (44) is pivotably affixed to the pivot body (42) and is movable between a stowed position wherein the wings (44) lie relatively close to the fuselage (22) when the pivot body (42) is in a first position (48) along the pivot track (40), and a deployed position wherein the wings (44) are deployed to extend relatively outwardly from the fuselage (22) when the pivot body (42) is in a second position (50) along the pivot track (40). An actuator (58) is operable to move the wings (44) from the stowed position to the deployed position.
