  • the analysis branches out when one identifies supplying processes that produce the input commodities of the final process, and in turn computes the amounts of input commodities that are needed for these supplying processes to produce the amounts of input commodities that are needed to produce the given quantity of final commodity.
  • a branching tree of processes is established with the root representing the final commodity and the branches representing various processes that are directly or indirectly involved in manufacturing the product. For each process involved in this tree the amount of environmental emission is determined in proportion to the amount of output of the process that is needed to produce the given quantity of the final product.
