Abstract

The scope of the invention is the method of registration and modification of access to telecommunication services particularly in mobile device. The solution developed according to this invention enables registration in the operator’s service control server’s database (6) of any service available from the service provider’s server (5) via a registration-and-controlling unit (4), e.g. a mobile phone, a computer, an Internet kiosk, and it enables immediate modification of the content of a microprocessor card memory (1) in manner allowing the user to use a given service.

Description

Method of registration and modification of access to telecommunication services, particularly in mobile device
The scope of the invention is the method of registration and modification of access to telecommunication services, particularly in mobile device. Provision of telecommunication services with the use of microprocessor cards and management of these services is not possible without an efficient IT system supporting flexible creation and updating of services realized on microprocessor cards. Such a system should support updating of the services saved on a card without the need for frequent replacement of the card itself to a new one.
There already do exist systems for updating services and applications saved on microprocessor cards that rely on OTA (over-the-air) interface and that are compliant with the following ETSI GSM specifications: 11.11, 11.14, 02.48 and 03.48. In these systems the applications and services make-up a concise whole, which is achieved by their compilation to the form of an executable code of a microprocessor card, which is then saved in single elementary file. The applications and services use the data stored in additional, organized data records. Such realization is possible by means of relatively simple, selective change of value of parameters - the result is e.g. the change of the text appearing on the mobile handset's display or the change of the content of a message sent to the server supporting a given service. However, it does not enable the change of the functionality of the application, such as change of the type or sequence of commands in the language of the processor embedded in the card. Unfortunately, since the application is compiled down to the form of an executable code of the microprocessor card, and since it is saved in the form of a single file, thus it is only possible to delete it in full and potentially to save a new application in its place - it is not possible to modify selected elements of the application or service. Due to the typical size of such applications, even a small modification of the application, taking into account the existing solutions, would entail the need to send too big data chunks, which is unacceptable if the change would have to apply to many microprocessor cards. Some alternative, which does not put load on the telecommunication links, is offered by updating the microprocessor card while using a unit, attached to a PC, which is able to read and write information to the card. Such a unit requires the card to be placed in it. However, also in this case modification of the content of many cards, including those that are on the market in clients' possession, could prove very difficult due to the need of having access to the cards themselves and to the read- write device. The current state of technology in this area also prevents the users from being able to flexibly create and modify applications or services in accordance with the user's requirements - the services must be modified by the operator.
Thus, there exists need for further improvements in terms of the method of registration and updating of services and applications on microprocessor cards. These improvements, if relevant technical means are employed, should enable remote update or replacement of functionalities of applications or services registered on SIM cards without the need for sending the entire new application.
The above needs are satisfied by the solution covered by this invention, both in terms of registration method and modification of access to services as well as their updating.
The invention covers the method of registration and modification of access to telecommunication services, particularly in mobile device consisting of a mobile terminal with embedded function of reception and sending of systemic SMS's and of a microprocessor card equipped with memory enabling at least one file with data records and a management application to be saved in it. The method consists in modification of the content of the memory in order to modify the access from a mobile device to the services realized while relying on systemic SMS's on at least one server of the provider of services. The essence of the solution is that the memory is modified through formatting the content of at least one record in data files, however the function of reading the thus formatted records, displaying their content on the mobile terminal's display and preparing a relevant command for accessing the service provider's server from a mobile device are all managed by the management application. Formatting of the records' content is effected with the use of the information received by the mobile device via the mobile terminal in the form of systemic SMS's containing the address for accessing the service provider's server, a unique ID and the functional parameters, however the content of the systemic SMS's that modify the data records is downloaded from the database of the operator's server responsible for controlling the services. Then, via a communication gateway, coupled with a wireless or wireline read- write device the information is sent in the form of systemic SMS's to a mobile terminal and is saved in the memory, in data files, however the data that modify the data records, which are collected from the operator's service control server , are entered by the service provider, who logs into the operator's control server database and by means of a registration-and-controlling unit enters into the database the parameters of the service available on the service provider's server, enters the service category under which the new service will be registered, the registration information containing in particular the address data and the ID of the service provider's server, the functional data of the registered service, the access criteria and the unique name of the service. As a result, the operator's service control server allocates a unique ID, saves it in the operator's service control server's database and completes the registration of the new service in this base. The solution developed according to this invention enables registration in the operator's service control server's database of any service available from the service provider's server via a registration-and-controlling unit, e.g. a mobile phone, a computer, an internet kiosk. It also enables immediate modification of the content of a microprocessor card memory in manner allowing the user to use a given service.
An exemplary solution will be discussed, along with a block diagram being presented. The method of registration and modification of access to telecommunication services in an MS mobile device, which consists of a TE mobile terminal with a built-in function of reception and sending of systemic SMS's and of a microprocessor card equipped with memory 1, which enables saving at least one 3000 file with data records 3001,..., 3xxx, and of the managing application 2,involves modification of the content of data records 3001, ..., 3xxx in memory 1 in order to modify the access from TE mobile device to the services realized by means of systemic SMS's in the service provider's server 5. Memory I is modified by formatting the content of records 3001, ..., 3xxx in the 3000 data files. The read function for thus formatted records 3001, ..., 3xxx, the function of displaying their content on the display of TE mobile terminal and the preparation of a relevant access command to be sent from the MS mobile device to the service provider's server 5 are all managed by the management application 2. The information received by the mobile device MS via the TE mobile terminal in the form of systemic SMS's containing the access address for the service provider's server, the unique ID and functional parameters, especially those relying on SIM Application Toolkit for the service to which access is to be provided from the MS mobile device is used for formatting the content of records 3001, ..., 3xxx. The content of the systemic SMS's that modify data records 3001, ..., 3xxx is downloaded from the operator's service control server's database 6, and then via a communication gateway K) coupled with a wireless 8 or wireline 9 read- write device the information is sent in the form of systemic SMS's to the TE mobile terminal and is saved in memory 1 in the 3000 data files. The data modifying the data records 3001, ..., 3xxx, collected from operator's service control server's database 6, is entered by the service provider who logs onto the operator's service control server's database 6 by means of a registration-and-control unit 4, which in particular can be a computer, and enters to the database the parameters of the service available from the service provider's server 5, enters the service category under which the new service will be registered, the registration information containing in particular the address data and the ID of the service provider's server 5, the functional data of the registered service, that is the diagram of the service's execution on the microprocessor card, the access criteria, while indicating whether the service will be available publicly or only for selected phone numbers, and the unique name of the service. As a result the operator's service control server 7 allocates a unique access ID to the service, and in particular the short MSISDN number related to a specific tariff plan, while saving the information to operator's service control server's database 6 and thus ending the registration of the new service in this base.

Patent claims The method of registration and modification of access to telecommunication services, particularly in mobile device, which consist of a TE mobile terminal with a built- in function of reception and sending of systemic SMS's and of a microprocessor card equipped with memory, which enables saving at least one file with data records, and of a managing application, which consists of modification of the content of the memory, is characterized by the fact that memory (1) is modified by means of formatting the content of at least one record (3001, ..., 3xxx) in data files (3000), however the function of reading the thus formatted records (3001, ..., 3xxx), displaying their content on the mobile terminal's display (TE) and preparing a relevant command for accessing the service provider's server (5) from a mobile device (MS) are all managed by the management application (2) said formatting of the records' content (3001, ..., 3xxx) is effected with the use of the information received by the mobile device (MS) via the mobile terminal (TE) in the form of systemic SMS's containing the address for accessing the service provider's server (5), a unique ID and the functional parameters, however the content of the systemic SMS's that modify the data records (3001, ..., 3xxx) is downloaded from the database of the operator's service control server (6), then via a communication gateway (10), coupled with a wireless (8) or wireline (9) read-write device, the information is sent in the form of systemic SMS's to a mobile terminal (TE) and is saved in the memory (V), in data files (3000), however the data that modify the data records (3001, ..., 3xxx), which are downloaded from the operator's service control server (6), are entered by the service provider, who registers in the operator's control server database (6) and by means of a registration-and-controlling unit (4) enters into the database the parameters of the service available on the service provider's server (5), enters the service category under which the new service will be registered, the registration information containing in particular the address data and the ID of the service provider's server (5), the functional data of the registered service, availability criteria and the unique name of the service, as a result, the operator's service control server (7) allocates a unique ID, saves it in the operator's service control server's database (6) and completes the registration of the new service in this base.
