Abstract

The invention is an optical medium containing information optically readable by a beam of light. The medium of the invention comprises one or more light-occluding elements (4) that are placed within or on the surface of the medium. The light-occluding elements prevent or change the reading of a portion of the information at a particular location on the medium by interfering with the beam of light. The optical medium of the invention further comprises control software comprising information suitable for controlling the mechanism employed for reading the portion of information and for using the reading of the portion of information for verifying the authenticity of the medium.
