Abstract

A point feeder for dosing material in powdered form, such as for example dosing oxide and/or fluoride in an electrolytic cell for production of aluminium. The point feeder comprises a container (9) provided with an inlet (13) for feeding material into the container, with at least one fluidising element (10,11) and one outlet (8a) for discharging material from the container, and the point feeder further comprises at least one dosing device (6). The dosing device (6) is provided with a cavity and is arranged in connection with the container's outlet in such a manner that material can be transferred from the container to the dosing device's cavity. The cavity (6a) is provided with a discharge aperture (7) for transferring material from the dosing device's cavity (6a) to, for example, the electrolytic cell's molten mass. The dosing device is equipped with a closing device which is arranged in such a manner that the dosing device's discharge aperture can be closed and opened and material kept inside the cavity or discharged through the discharge aperture respectively.
