Abstract

The inventive high pressure composite cylinder is used for storing and transporting pressurised gases and comprises an external pressure shell made of composite material, an internal thin-wall sealing liner which consists of a cylindrical enclosure and two bottoms which are welded thereto with the aid of superposed rings. An internal and external ring are arranged where the enclosure and the bottom are jointed to each other in such a way the joint is placed in the middle of the width of the rings, a gap between the enclosure and the bottom being closed with the material of the external ring. Reinforcing ring straps made of high-module unidirectional composite material, for example carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, are wound on the external surface of the joints. In order to simplify the production of the cylinders, the edges of the enclosure and that of the bottoms are jointed on internal base rings. Afterwards, external rings are pressed onto said joints which are welded by means of a nonmelting electrode using the material of the external rings as filler. Prior to butt jointing, limiting annular marks are put on the external surface of the enclosure and the bottom.
