Definitions
- HOLYPLATE is used particularly for fixation of load carrying bones in orthopedics and traumatology. It accelerates knitting and early mobilization.
- the contact surface of the plate with the bone has saw-nails and in the reverse direction from midline to the end. Thus it allows compression but not distraction. It also reduces contact of the plate with bone surface and allows periostal perfusion.
- the nails may be in different shapes.
- the section which overlaps with the bone at the fracture site in the middle may have no nails (OO').
- Longitudinal canals can be made on the inferior surface to increase the lateral stability. Transfer of axial load to the bone fragments is ensured by enlarging the screw canals longitudinally.
- the screw may be adjusted to the desired compression level during the insertion.
- the same plate may be supported by cable grips through cable grip canals from the corners. Cable grip can be applied in case screw cannot be applied. Or combination of the screws and cable grips can be possible.
- Figure I Lateral view of LFP.
- the plate is left without nail because midline of the plate lines up with the fracture.
- the inferior surface of the plate has reverse saw nails from the middle towards the ends. Here direction of the saw-nails and cable grip hole and location can be seen from the lateral side.
- Figure II View of the plate from the top side. Cable insertion canals and screw beds can be seen.
- Figure III View of the plate from the bottom side. Location of reverse saw- nails can be seen. Lateral stability can be ensured by canals carved along the plate longitudinally.
- Figure IV A cross-sectional view of the plate alongside the cable canal. It shows location of cable canal. Plate can be manufactured in various size and thickness. Plate can be formed in accordance with the main philosophy.
