Description

Document sécurisé par une série de microperçages. Document secured by a series of microperforations.
The present invention relates to a document secured by a series of microperforations.
In particular, document WO 97/18092 describes a method consisting in producing microperforations visible by transparency and arranged in an identifiable pattern. This pattern achieves level one security, that is, security that can be observed without the need to use special equipment. In this document, the security comes mainly from the fact that the microperforations are of sufficiently small dimensions not to be perceptible during an examination of the document under a reflected light. This security is useful as long as a fraudster is not informed of the existence of microperforations. However, from the moment a fraudster is informed of this existence, it is relatively easy to reproduce the pattern using a needle to carry out micro-drilling. It is also known from document WO 00/43216 a method consisting in producing blind microperforations of greater or lesser depth or microperforations opening out with varied inclinations so that the pattern obtained has different shades of gray depending on the thickness of matter through which the light passes during an observation by transparency. The different shades of gray can carry out an encoding of information for securing the document. The pattern obtained can therefore be observed by means of an apparatus suitable for analyzing the different shades of gray and performing a decoding of the pattern produced. This pattern therefore constitutes level two security. However, the different shades of gray can hardly be appreciated with the naked eye so that it will be possible for a fraudster to reproduce the pattern with means which will certainly not have sufficient precision to allow an authentication of the document at level two but which will nevertheless make it possible to obtain differences in shades of gray sufficiently pronounced to suggest that it is '' is an authentic document during a level one analysis.
An object of the invention is to propose a security means which can serve as a means of authentication both during a level one analysis and during a level two analysis.
According to the invention, a document is provided which is secured by a series of microperforations visible by transparency, in which the series of microperforations comprises signs which are different from one another, encoding at least one item of information for securing the document.
Ainsi, une simple observation par transparence permet d'effectuer l'analyse de niveau un.Thus, during a level one analysis, we take into account the form of the signs and the document is authenticated if the signs have a form identical to the signs of an authentic document, while during a level two analysis, the differences between the signs are taken into account in order to decode the security information and compare it with authentic information. The microperforations preferably have a shape that can be seen with the naked eye. Thus, a simple observation by transparency makes it possible to perform the level one analysis.
Preferably, the signs have a shape with an easily identifiable complex outline. The signs thus produced are then difficult to reproduce but easy to recognize, which constitutes a quality criterion of a security means.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the description which follows of different embodiments of the invention with reference to Figures 1 to 6 which schematically illustrate a part of a banknote or a banknote comprising an embodiment of the invention. In each of the figures, the micro-holes have been shown in a very enlarged manner, if necessary out of proportion with the dimensions of the bank note in order to better understand the characteristic of the invention illustrated by the figure. On each of the figures, the signs are represented by a black impression although it is a hole visible through transparency.
In a manner known per se, microperforations can be carried out either in the document itself, in particular when the latter is opaque, or only in the printing layers of the document when the latter is transparent, for example in the case of a transparent plastic film, or even in an insert, such as a patch or a strip, which is then fixed on the document. The microperforations according to the invention can even be non-opening or be covered by a film or a pellet as soon as the thickness of material closing the microperforation is of sufficient transparency to allow observation of the shape of the microperforation by transparency. .
With reference to FIG. 1, this illustrates a first embodiment in which the signs 1 constituting the series of signs produced by the microperforations have different shapes, preferably shapes which are sufficiently complex to make them difficult to perform manually or with rudimentary tools, but in a form that is sufficiently identifiable to be recognized at a glance. In particular, these signs could take the form of alphabetic characters or digital. In this embodiment, the encoding is carried out by the sequence of the signs of different shapes so that any modification of the sequence corresponds to different information. As an example, we can encode the serial number 8 of the ticket. During a check, the serial number is noted on the ticket and is subject to an encryption algorithm identical to that which was used to develop the series of signs 1. The comparison of the result with the series of perforated signs on the ticket allows to check if the ticket is authentic.
La figure 2 illustre un mode de réalisation dans lequel les signes 2 sont tous en forme d'étoiles qui sont réalisées selon des tailles différentes, l'encodage d'une information de sécurisation étant réalisé par la séquence des tailles des étoiles.FIG. 2 illustrates an embodiment in which the signs 2 are all in the form of stars which are produced according to different sizes, the encoding of security information being carried out by the sequence of the sizes of the stars.
La figure 3 illustre un mode de réalisation dans lequel les signes sont tous des flèches 3 qui sont différentes les unes des autres par leur orientation.FIG. 3 illustrates an embodiment in which the signs are all arrows 3 which are different from each other by their orientation.
La figure 4 illustre des signes en forme de dou- blés triangles accolés 4 qui se différencient les uns des autres par leur position relative, le décodage de ces signes pouvant être effectué par référence à une matrice .FIG. 4 illustrates signs in the form of double contiguous triangles 4 which differ from one another by their relative position, the decoding of these signs being able to be carried out by reference to a matrix.
Sur la figure 6, les signes 6 se différencient par leur distance par dl, d2 , par rapport à une bande 7 imprimée sur le billet de banque ou fixée sur celui-ci, ou encore insérée dans celui-ci.FIG. 5 illustrates signs 5 in the form of drops which differ from one another on the one hand by the distance dl, d2 which separates the sign from a reference element carried by the bank note, here the upper left corner 9 of the letter E of the term EURO, on the other hand by the angle Al, A2 which separates a horizontal line from the line joining the sign to the reference element. In FIG. 6, the signs 6 are differentiated by their distance by dl, d2, with respect to a strip 7 printed on the bank note or fixed on it, or even inserted therein.
Of course, the invention is not limited to embodiment described and it is possible to add variants without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.
In particular, instead of appearing directly as illustrated in the figures, the coding can be revealed by a moiré phenomenon by folding the ticket or by superposition of a filter independent of the ticket. The coding can be repeated several times to provide redundant information to facilitate re-reading. It is also possible to carry out this redundancy with different codings allowing an overlap.
The coding according to the invention can be used to implement the security method described in document FR-A-2,800,896, the authenticator provided for in this method being stored on the ticket by the series of microperforations produced according to the invention.
Micro-drilling can be carried out by any appropriate means, in particular by etching by means of a laser beam, possibly associated with a network of micro-mirrors, which makes it possible to digitally generate a very large number of varied shapes by acting on the micro - mirrors constituting the network, so that the signs obtained are difficult to reproduce with artisanal means. The signs produced may be through holes on both sides of the document or blind holes opening out on one side, or even non-emerging cavities produced by focusing the laser inside the material.
Although in relation to FIGS. 5 and 6, the signs have been described as being differentiated by their position relative to a reference element attached to the ticket, it is possible to use a reference element from the document itself, for example a corner or edge of the ticket.
Although in the embodiment of the figure 1 the series of micro-holes corresponds to an encoding of the serial number printed on the ticket itself, the security information to which the series of micro-holes corresponds is not necessarily carried by the ticket. This information can be stored elsewhere and compared with the information obtained by decoding the series of microperforations.
