Abstract

A linearly polarized wideband dipole array antenna element (100) capable of operating up to approximately 5:1 to 10:1 or more in bandwidth for receive and/or transmit wireless communications applications is provided. The antenna element includes multiple large-diameter cylindrical tubular dipole elements (100) that are very closely spaced. The internally fed dipoles (100) have flat end caps (120) and the close spacing increases the mutual coupling between dipoles to improve the low frequency performance.
