Description

Multicolour Writing and Drawing Instrument
Background and summary of the invention
This invention concerns the multicolour writing and drawing instrument, method of manufacturing core for this instrument and device for performing this method. From multicolour writing and drawing instruments we particularly know ball point pens with retractable colour refills or mechanic pencils with retractable colour leads. We also know multicolour markers with two or more tips to which ink from separated cartridges is led, e.g. according to patent CZ 262 982. Then we know a treble-core pencil according to CZ 193 312 for drawing double lines on timber in joinery operations.
In the field of classic pencil products with one multicolour core we know core consisting of longitudinal colour fields located parallel to the core axis according to published German patent application DE 30 06 684 Al. The core may have various cross-sections and the shape of cross sections of the individual longitudinal colour segments may also vary in dependence on the core cross section. However all the longitudinal segments participate on the core surface, which is given by the so far known production method.
Disadvantage of this known solution is in the fact that the core when writing or drawing is still at the same inclined position and the line drawn has one, max. two colours. To get the effect of variable colour the core has to be turned round its axis, which is unpleasant and inconvenient in normal writing or drawing. The aim of the invention is to create a multicolour writing and drawing instrument making a multicoloured line without the necessity of rotation round the axis. The above target has been achieved by creating a multicolour writing and drawing instrument with pastel core with known longitudinal colour segments parallel to the core axis. The principle of the invention is based on the feature that at least one of the longitudinal colour segments is arranged inside the core so as it does not reach the core peripheral surface but goes out in the tip area.
The advantage of this version is based on the fact that the colour segment or segments arranged inside the core get to the surface in its tip area after sharpening the core, and together with the other segments draw a multicoloured line without necessity to rotate the writing tool round its axis when writing or drawing. The colours of the line change by just a small inclination angle change of the writing or drawing tool.
It is advantageous if there are more colour segments arranged inside the core and if the segments of various colours alter regularly, and the line then consists of more writing tracks created by several colour segments together.
Advantageous arrangement is for example if the colour segments have quadrangle cross sections and are arranged in regular criss-cross structure in a normally used cylindrical core. The colour segments form alternating lines of one colour and in a cross section the quadrangles of the same colour segments touch one another by their vertices. It is also advantageous if the colour segments have yellow, red and blue colours. Regular alternating fields of the individual colour segments appear at the tip area after sharpening, so the line is formed by several writing tracks consisting of various colours or their combinations created by overlapping of the tracks in each position, while the width of the individual writing tracks is different. The line is thus individual as it corresponds to the only possible position, inclination and pressure on the writing instrument, and so the multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention enables you to write for example a safety signature, which is difficult to forge. The combination of yellow, red and blue colours enables creation of wide range of colour spectrum by overleaping the writing tracks. The multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention may thus also be used for drawing colour pictures using just one drawing instrument in various positions to get the final colour effect.
It is also advantageous if the multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention made in the form of wooden colour pencil, plastic pencil or mechanic pencil with sliding core has the surface finishing with irregular colour patterns, lines or stains, so called "marbling". This finishing together with visible sharpened tip of the multicoloured core caused by alternating colour segments, form unique visual combination obviously distinguishing the multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention from common writing and drawing instruments, while each piece may have original finishing pattern.
The manufacturing method of the core for the multicolour writing and drawing instrument is also an object of the invention. The principle of manufacturing according to the invention is based on arranging the colour segments of the pastel core in semirigid state to a shape of three-dimensional block of any cross section in regular structure so as at least one of the colour segments is completely inside the block and does not get to the side surface. After that the block is pressed through a drawing die with a hole with cross section smaller than and/or different from the cross section of the block. For manufacturing of the most common cylindrical shaped core the colour segments of block shape arranged one on another and one next to another in regular structure forming alternating rows of segments of one colour are advantageous. The block thus formed is pressed in the direction from the block base through a drawing die with a circular hole the area of which is smaller than the area of the block cross section. High relative pressure developed in pressing through the drawing die causes mutual irreversible fastening (compaction) of the individual colour segments forming the core, while the structure to which the individual colour segments were arranged in the original block remains unchanged. The core manufactured by the described method is then commonly processed by cold or hot preparation to the final form in which it is placed to a writing or drawing instrument.
A device for manufacturing the cylindrical core for the multicolour writing and drawing instrument is the last object of the invention. Its principle is based on a block shaped pressing chamber where the block of arranged colour segments is placed. The pressing chamber is equipped with a quadrangle cross-section piston on one side and with entering part with a drawing die with circular hole on the other side.
The advantages of the multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention are based on creation of a multicoloured line consisting of several writing tracks of different colours without necessity to turn the writing instrument round its axis during writing. Colours and width of the writing tracks change and overleap simply by changing the inclination of the writing and drawing instrument and also by wearing out the core. The method of core manufacturing and the device for applying this method enable to manufacture the core for the multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention on common pencil making devices and on existing production lines without further investments.
The multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention is suitable for children to draw, for artists to draw colour pictures and sketches, and for writing, where it may be used as an instrument for creating a safety signature protected against forgery. Brief description of the drawings
The invention will be better explained with the help of drawings, on which Fig. 1 shows transverse cross section through the core of the multicolour writing and drawing instrument at the place marked A - A, Fig 2 shows an axonometric view of the core in its final state with sharpened tip, Fig. 3 shows an axonometric view of the block arranged of colour segments also of block shape, Fig 4 shows a longitudinal cross section through the pressing chamber with the block, piston, entering part and drawing die, Fig. 5 shows an axonometric view of the pressing chamber, Fig. 6 shows axonometric view of the tip area of the multicolour writing and drawing instrument.
Detailed description of the preferred embodiments
Figures 1 - 6 present an example of the multicolour writing and drawing instrument in the form of wooden pencil 13 with the multicolour cylindrical core
Apart from this example the core I may be used as an autonomous writing and drawing instrument or may be used as a refill to a mechanic sliding pencil or may be inserted in any other known case for writing and drawing instruments. The core I shape is not limited to the most common cylindrical version but may be applied to any cross section.
The multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention in the shown example version has the form of a wooden pencil 13. with wooden case and the core formed of cylindrical pastel core 1 made of mixture of kaolin, binders and pigments. The core 1 consists of longitudinal colour segments 2, 3, 4 running parallel to the core I axis. The first colour segments 2 are yellow, the second colour segments 3 are red and the third colour segments 4 are blue. The colour segments 2, 3, 4 have diamond or square cross sections and are arranged in the cylindrical core 1 in regular criss-cross structure in alternating rows of one colour so as the quadrangle cross sections of one colour touch one another by their vertices. The peripheral colour segments form then the side surface V of the core 1. The internal colour segments 2, 3, 4 are inside the core 1 and do not protrude to the side surface V, but they get to the surface in sharpened the tip Y' area.
The case of the wooden pencil 13 has finishing formed by irregular colour patterns, lines and stains. This finishing called "marbling" is done by dipping of the wooden pencils 13. in the dipping base and further colour baths.
The core 1 is made in a device shown in Fig. 4 and 5, consisting of a metallic pressing chamber 6 of block shape equipped with a quadrangle piston 7 on one side and on the other side there is an entrance part 9 leading to an interchangeable drawing die 10 with a circular hole ϋ of hard metal, corundum or similar material. The drawing die K) has a circular shape and is attached to the entrance part 9 by a cap nut 12. Diameters of the circular holes ϋ in the interchangeable drawing dies 10 are e.g. 3.8 mm, 5.6 mm and 6 mm, i.e. dimensions of commonly used pastel cores.
To manufacture the core I the colour block shaped segments 2, 3, 4 of pastel lead in semirigid state are first made by common pressing through square shaped drawing die. These block shaped segments of square cross section 3 x 3 cm are then arranged on one another and next to one another into regular structure of 7 x 7 alternating diagonal lines of blocks according to Fig. 3 so as the form a block 5 of cross section 21 x 21 cm. The block 5 placed into the pressing chamber 6 is then pressed in the direction from the block base by the piston 7 through the drawing die 10, actually through its circular hole JJ_. The block 5 consisting of the colour segments 2, 3, 4 in semirigid state gradually adapts to the shape of the entering part 9, which is designed so as no deformation of the internal criss-cross structure of the block 5 is caused by correct specific pressure and speed of the piston 7, and so as the criss-cross structure of the cylindrical core I leaving the hole IT has the same criss-cross structure if the colour segments 2, 3 , 4 as the original block 5 of square cross section. Slight shape deformation of the cross sections of the peripheral colour segments 2, 3, 4 participating on the surface I'of the core 1 is not a fault, however the criss-cross structure must not be damaged. The original square cross sections of the colour segments 2, 3, 4 may also be slightly changed for example to diamond shape.
When the core 1 leaves the hole ϋ it is put on a pad in lengths of about 80 cm, then it is cut to pieces of 135 mm and is finished by cold or hot preparation including drying and dipping into a mixture of waxes and paraffin to get the required smoothness and wear. After that the core is placed in a wooden pencil 13 using the common method, the pencil 13 case is finished and the tip 1" sharpened.
The multicolour writing and drawing instrument according to the invention may be used for writing and drawing lines consisting of multicoloured writing track, especially as a colour pencil for children, for artists or as a writing instrument for safety signatures etc.
