- Cap 100 is also provided with a plug seal 120 for preventing passage of material 80 through the opening 70, a track guide 130 and a stop 140 for controlled rotational contact with the track 90 ( Figure 1).
- Track guide 130 is also provided with a back draft (not shown) that facilitates retention of the cap 100 on the container 50.
- the cap 100 may also be provided with a textured rim 150 to facilitate gripping.
- the cap 100 once attached to the container 50, is rotatable with respect to the container 50 between a closed position as shown in Figures 4 and 6, and an open position as shown in Figure 5, with the movement of the cap 100 being limited by the contact of the stop 140 with the ends of the track 90.
- the neck 60, opening 70 and the top surface 102 of the cap 110 are angled relative to the horizontal, while the track 90 and track guide 130 are dimensioned so that the cap 100 is rotatable along a path that is less than 180° and actually closer to 90°. These rotatable dimensions are governed by the angle of the cap top surface 102 and the angle of the neck 60 relative to the horizontal.
- FIGS 7-10 illustrate an alternative embodiment of a cap 200 attachable to the container 50 of Figures 1-6.
- Cap 200 is provided with a dispensing orifice 210 through which material 80 (Figure 1) is dispensed when the cap 200 is attached to the container 50.
- Cap 200 is also provided with a plug seal 220 for preventing passage of material 80 through the neck opening 70, a track guide 230 and a stop 240 for controlled rotational contact with the track 90 ( Figure 1).
- Track guide 230 is also provided with a back draft (not shown) that facilitates retention of the cap 200 on the container 50.

- the neck 60 is angled relative to the horizontal while the cap 200 is hemispherically- shaped and the track guide 240 is dimensioned so that the cap 200 is rotatable along a path that is approximately 180°.
- the neck 60, cap 200 and track guide 240 may be alternatively shaped and arranged as desired, as long as the cap functions in accordance with the teaching of the present invention.
- Figures 11-18 illustrate an alternative embodiment of a cap 300 attachable to a container having an alternatively-designed neck 260 with an uppermost part 262, a neck opening 270 and a track 290.
- Cap 300 is provided with a dispensing orifice 310 through which material 80 ( Figure 1) is dispensed when the cap 300 is attached to the container.
- Cap 300 is also provided with a plug seal 320 for preventing passage of material 80 through the neck opening 270, a track guide 330 for retention of the cap 300 on the container, and a stop 340 for controlled rotational contact with the track 290.
- the cap 300 may also be provided with a textured rim 350 to facilitate gripping.
- the neck opening 270 and the uppermost part 262 of the neck 260 do not have a uniform shape as illustrated with the neck 60 of Figure 1.
- the shape of the uppermost portion 262 relative to the rest of the neck 260 is dimensioned to accommodate the shape of the dispensing orifice 310 and to allow for rotation of the dispensing orifice 310 of the cap 300 relative to the uppermost portion 262 of the neck 260.
- FIGS 19-21 illustrate an alternative embodiment of a dispensing article of the present invention.
- a one-piece injection-molded cap 400 works in conjunction with adjacent spirals located on the neck 410 of the container 430 to open and close the dispensing nozzle 420.
- a spiral shaped lip 440 on the container 430 nests inside the negative spiral space (not shown) in the cap 400 for retention of the cap 400 on the container 430.
- Located on the cap 400 at the top end of the negative spiral space is a dispensing orifice 420 that is sealed with the container spiral end section 450 when closed or turned in a counter-clockwise position, it being appreciated that the top angle of the container 450 matches the inside angle of the cap 400.
- Figure 21 illustrates how product 80 would be dispensed from every container described herein.
- the entire container 430 is placed in an inverted position and the outer flexible walls squeezed, forcing the product 80 out as shown.
- twist-cap embodiments have been described and illustrated, it should be appreciated that other movable caps may be used with equal success.
- a push-pull cap of the type normally used on sport water bottles can be provided wherein a portion of the bottle container extends through the cap opening while the cap is in the closed position, thus providing a visual indication of whether the cap is open or closed.
- Other types of movable caps are contemplated.
