Description

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A SUPPORT PLATFORM, AND
SUPPORT PLATFORM
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a support platform for transport purposes, which platform is constructed from at least one plate of nailable material and one or more flat metal strengthening elements provided with rod-like fixing members perpendicularly of the plane thereof.
Different proposals have already been made by applicant for fastening together wooden plates or plates of other nailable material which are placed on one another, this by means of nail elements, in particular those made from strip-like material, perpendicularly of which are attached fixing members in the form of rodlike nails.
The present invention relates to such a platform in a general sense, which is manufactured particularly from one or more plates which are fastened to each other by means of strengthening elements, which strengthening elements are provided with threaded ends. According to the invention these strengthening elements run particularly along the edges of the plates in the form of an angle profile, such that the angle profile can be fixed in simple manner along a part of or the whole periphery of a plate by means of a pressing movement without applying rivets, screws or other fixing material, which must usually be arranged through holes arranged beforehand in the angle profiles. This is a relatively expensive process.
The method according to the invention is therefore distinguished in that a metal strengthening element in the form of an angle profile is arranged along one or more peripheral edges of the platform by exerting a pressure force directed at the platform and parallel to the direction of the fixing members.
In a further embodiment the platform is assembled from two or more nailable plates placed on one another, between which is arranged a strengthening element, whereafter the assembly is pressed together. The platform can hereby be adjusted in simple manner to the load, the range of use, because the different layers of the platform can be selected from suitable material. In order to enable easy placing of the plates, the angle profiles can therefore be provided along the edges of the platform with one or more ribs or flanges which can enclose the diverse layers.
The invention further relates to a support platform obtained according to the above described method, which support platform is distinguished in that a metal strengthening element in the form of an angle profile is arranged along one or more peripheral edges of the platform. According to a further development, the support platform can be readily adapted by arranging on the angle profiles fastening means for fitting of the support platform into carriers, such as for instance a movable frame. The strengthening elements can further be provided with three or more spacers which extend from the underside of the platform so as to form an insertion space for the lift forks of the transport vehicle.
Above mentioned and other features of the invention will be further elucidated hereinbelow on the basis of the figure description of a number of embodiments. In the drawing: fig. 1 shows a perspective view with partly broken- away support plate according to a first embodiment of the invention; fig. 2 shows a second embodiment wherein the support platform is constructed from more than one plate placed above and onto one another; fig. 3 shows a detail of a strengthening element provided with fixing members which are chamfered at the ends; fig. 4 shows a detail corresponding with figure 3 after assembly of the platform; fig. 5 and 6 show an alternative embodiment of the fixing members before and after assembly; fig. 7 shows a third embodiment of the fixing members with thickened end part.
Corresponding components are designated in the figures with the same reference numerals. Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of the support platform according to the invention. This consists of a plate of nailable material 1 which can be let into a framework 2. Framework 2 consists of angle profiles 3 along the four edges of plate 1 such that the upward directed flange lies along the outside of plate 1 and the inward directed flange on the underside thereof. Along the inside edge of each flange 4 are arranged fixing members 5 in the form of rod pieces, which are attached to this inside edge of flange 4 for instance by a welding operation. Fixing members 5 point upward in the direction of plate 1. The assembly takes place by pressing the plate with force into framework 2 in the direction of arrow Pi (parallel to the fixing members) , this framework 2 then being supported in appropriate manner. Fixing members 5 herein penetrate into the nailable material of plate 1 and provide a firm connection so that plate 1 is protected and strengthened all around.
As a variant of the shown embodiment, it will be apparent that fixing members 5 can also be attached to the upper surface of the inward directed flanges 4 by means of a butt weld.
The angle profiles 3 are connected to each other at the ends in order to form the framework 2. It is however also possible to connect each angle profile 3 separately to plate 1 in the above described manner, wherein the angle profiles are not attached to each other.
The angle profiles may moreover not cover the whole length of the longitudinal respectively transverse edges of plate 1 but only a portion thereof, depending on the application of the support platform or on the damage to be expected.
Figure 2 shows an embodiment wherein two panels 1 and 6 are assembled with a longitudinal angle profile 3, which here has the form of a T-profile. The inward directed flange 4 comes to lie between the two plates 1 and 6, wherein the fixing members 5 are arranged along the longitudinal edge of the inward directed flange 4 and extend on either side relative thereto. When the two plates 1, 6 are pressed in as according to arrow P2 respectively P3, a firm connection will be effected between angle profile 3 and the longitudinal edge of the plates, wherein fixing members 5 will penetrate into the nailable material thereof. In this embodiment the angle profiles 3 are only arranged along the longitudinal edges and lengthened with hook-like members 7 which serve for fixing to a frame of random nature, for instance a movable wire container or the like. The outer ends 10 of fixing members 5 are preferably chamfered so that when fixing members 5 are pushed into the material of plate 1 respectively 6 or only plate 1 according to figure 1, fixing members 5 undergo a curving as shown in figure 4. The extraction force is hereby increased considerably, which contributes toward the strength of the total platform.
Figures 5 and 6 are a variant of the fixing member wherein use is made of a longitudinally spreadable nail part, the end of which is notched in a V-shape. When fixing member 5 is pressed into plate material 1 respectively 6, the fixing member will spread to either side so as to achieve the same object, i.e. a greater holding force. Figure 7 shows a variant wherein fixing member 5 is chamfered on the outer end, but is also thickened with the head 11, which is difficult to pull loose after the fixing member has penetrated into the nailable material. It is noted that the top and bottom side are provided with the same chamfered head, whereby the whole body of the fixing member will rotate relative to flange 4 of angle profile 3. The invention is not limited to the above described embodiment. It is noted that diverse combinations are possible of the various shown embodiments.
It is finally noted that the platform can be provided on the underside with carriers respectively spacers, so that a pallet-like construction can be obtained. The spacers form an insertion space for the fork-lift truck prongs in case the platform is displaced with load. It is of course also possible to provide the spacers with wheels, swivel wheels or castors.
