Abstract
An ultrasonic apparatus is described for treating decompression sickness symptoms, which comprises: at least one ultrasonic transducer, capable of generating an ultrasonic beam, when it is excited by an electric or magnetic signal and of generating an electric or magnetic signal when it is excited by ultrasounds, first electronic means (110, 120, 121, 122), for intermittently exciting said at least one ultrasonic transducer by an electric or magnetic signal, to cause it to intermittently transmit ultrasounds, second electronic means (122, 123, 124, 125, 126) for receiving and processing the electric or magnetic signal from said ultrasonic transducer, which is generated by the echo of the ultrasounds received during transmission breaks, wherein the second electronic means for receiving and processing said electric or magnetic signal from said ultrasonic transducer are able to discriminate the second harmonic component from the received ultrasounds and to provide a signal representative of the intensity at the second harmonic.
Claims
1. An ultrasonic apparatus for treating decompression sickness symptoms, comprising
- at least one ultrasonic transducer capable of generating ultrasounds when it is excited by an electric or magnetic signal and of generating an electric or magnetic signal when it is excited by ultrasounds;
- first electronic means (110, 120, 121, 122), for intermittently exciting said at least one ultrasonic transducer by an electric or magnetic signal, to cause it to intermittently transmit ultrasounds;
- second electronic means (122, 123, 124, 125, 126) for receiving and processing the electric or magnetic signal from said ultrasonic transducer, which is generated by the echo of the ultrasounds received during transmission breaks; characterized in that the second electronic means for receiving and processing said electric or magnetic signal from said ultrasonic transducer are able to discriminate the second harmonic component from the received ultrasounds and to provide a signal representative of the intensity at the second harmonic and in that there are no magnetic resonance diagnostic means and in that the apparatus is not an imaging apparatus.
2. An ultrasonic apparatus for treating decompression sickness symptoms, comprising
- at least one ultrasonic transducer for generating an ultrasonic beam when it is excited by an alternate electric signal;
- first electronic means for continuously exciting said at least one ultrasonic transducer by an electric or magnetic signal, to cause it to continuously transmit ultrasounds;
- at least one second ultrasonic transducer for receiving the microwaves reflected inside the insonated body and for generating an electric or magnetic signal;
- second electronic means for receiving and amplifying an electric or magnetic signal generated by said at least one second ultrasonic transducer in response to the echo generated by the 10
ultrasounds transmitted by said at least first ultrasonic transducer, characterized in that said second electronic means are able to discriminate the second harmonic component from the received ultrasounds and to provide a signal representative of the intensity at the second harmonic.
3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein second harmonic discrimination is obtained by using a digital filter.
4. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein second harmonic discrimination is obtained by using a narrow-band-pass filter, centered on the second harmonic of the insonating signal.
5. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 or 3 or 4, wherein said ultrasonic transducer is coupled to an acoustic lens (131), to concentrate the ultrasonic beam.
6. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 or 3 or 4, wherein said ultrasonic transducer is acoustically coupled to a flexible bag containing gel or water.
7. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 or 3 or 4, wherein said ultrasonic transducer is acoustically coupled to water basin.
