Definitions
- the present invention refers to sets of interchangeable modules of the type in which the terminals and cables are introduced which are subsequently introduced into connector devices. These connectors will subsequently be put in contact with other devices, for example, distribution boxes, which also have a number of terminals with which the terminals inserted in the watertight modules will come into contact.
- the present invention is of special application in the sector manufacturer and supplier of electrical connection equipment, as is the case of auxiliary devices used for the automotive industry.
- connection boxes interlockable with each other, provided with closing and fitting tabs between both parts, male and female of the connectors.
- the present invention is proposed as a solution to the need to go to a modular manufacturing of components in the connectors for electrical interconnections, so that it is finally possible to adapt and exchange them to include them in the different connectors so that using different insertable modules in the housings enabled for it in the connectors they can formalize different connections in the same base connector.
- the number of components to be used is reduced by allowing a large number of combinations in order to achieve the optimum configuration in addition to the tightness of the connection that prevents corrosion problems in the contact areas between terminals.
- the sealed module-connector assembly object of the present invention is composed of a module that has a number of cavities determined by the number of terminals that must be housed inside, the use of modules with three, six or twelve cavities being preferred and a connector body.
- the connector body can have one, two or three housings to house the watertight modules.
- the connecting bodies with two or three housings have a lever in their upper part that, when turning on an axis, simultaneously displaces two independent sliding elements, with inclined guides, located in two grooves on the sides of said connector, as well as lateral holes for the introduction of elements of secondary closure to ensure the correct position of the modules in the housings arranged for them in the connector body.
- the thickness or diameter of the terminals will determine the maximum number of them that can be included in each module.
- modules have around their entire perimeter at the top of an elastic band that provides it with watertight conditions preventing oxidation of the terminals in contact as they prevent the passage of liquids between the walls of the connector and those of the module.
- the modules together with their already inserted terminals, being housed inside connector bodies form a single body arranged for connection with another device.
- two or three modules may be included in each connector body, thus varying the dimensions of said body.
- Said secondary closure means consist of the introduction of elements of small thickness that cross the body of the connector and once inside it they are introduced through the grooves existing in the side walls of the modules.
- Figure 1 represents two perspective views of a three-way waterproof module.
- Figure 2 represents a perspective view of a six-way sealed module.
- Figure 3 represents a perspective view of a twelve-way waterproof module.
- Figure four represents a perspective view of a connector body which has inside a compartment or housing for the introduction of a sealed module.
- Figure five represents a perspective view of a connector body which has two independent compartments for housing two sealed modules.
- Figure six represents a perspective view of a connector body which has three independent compartments for housing three sealed modules.
- the tight module-connector assembly is of special application for coupling between a connector body 5, which has one or more modules inside 1 that incorporate a certain number of terminals associated with the same number of cables, and a body base that also has terminals for its connection with those arranged in the connector body 5.
- the watertight module 1 can have three, six or twelve cavities or input 2 and the same number of cavities or output 2 intended to accommodate electrical terminals and their cables, the number of them 2 being determined by the diameter of the terminals to be used in the connection.
- modules 1 that have three tracks 2 can be used for the accommodation of three 6.3 mm terminals, modules 1 of six tracks 2 for the accommodation of six terminals of 2.8 mm, modules 1 of twelve tracks 2 for the housing of twelve terminals of 1.5 mm and modules 1 of twelve tracks 2 for the accommodation of twelve terminals of 0.635 mm.
- Said modules 1 are inserted inside housings 7 arranged in the connecting bodies 5, 13 and 14 intended for this purpose.
- the connector body 5 that houses only one module has side flanges 6 for connection to the base body of another device.
- the connecting bodies that can accommodate two 13 or three 14 modules 2 are composed in their upper part of a U-shaped support 11 and a lever 8 that rotates with respect to pivots 10 and is in contact with sliding elements 12 with inclined guides that move through two lateral grooves.
- the support 11 serves so that once the lever 8 is turned, the cables remain between both elements, being able to direct the cable bundle and keeping the cables in order.
- Under the lever 8 and inside the connector body two or three housings 7 are arranged for the introduction of the modules 1 into said connector body 13, 14.
- the connector body 13, 14 is assembled with a base body of another device, which has at least two projections in its side walls intended to be introduced in the existing guides in the sliding elements 12 of the connector body 13,14, elements 12 which at the rotate the lever 8 with respect to the pivots 10 clockwise horizontally, moving inside the connector body 13, 14 while the projections of the base body move along the guides existing in said sliding elements 12, thus causing the connection of both bodies, the connector body 13, 14 and the base body.
- an elastic band 4 is arranged around the perimeter of the upper part of the each module that provides them and the connections between the terminals with watertight conditions.
- connection is made between the connector body 5, 13, 14, with the module 2 or the modules 2 in their housings 7 and the base body, they are introduced through holes 9 arranged in the side walls of the connector 5, 13, 14 secondary closure devices.
- the mission of said devices is to ensure the correct positioning of the modules 2 inside 7 of the connector body 5, 13, 14 and therefore verify the correct connection between the terminals of the connector body 5, 13, 14 and the base body.
- Said devices consist of elongated and small elements that pass through the walls of the connector assembly and slide along grooves 3 in the side walls of the modules.
