Abstract

The invention concerns a universal deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) chip, a method for making a genetic print with said chip, and various uses of said chip. The inventive DNA chip is a hybridization chip of a nucleic fragment collection extracted from an organism comprising a support whereon is fixed an ordered array of nucleic acid probes, said probes including first and second sequence parts, the first sequence being constant from one probe to another and at least complementary to the remainder of a sequence of a specific restriction site, and the second part, adjacent to said first sequence part being variable from one probe to another and consisting of specific combinations of nitrogenous bases selected such that the ordered array of probes comprises the probes capable of specific hybridization with the various fragments of said collection nucleic acid. The inventive chip enables to make a genetic print of the organism, and can be useful for identifying the sex, race, variety, species and the like of an individual from his DNA sample.
