Description

Cable winder for a telephone set
Technical Field
The present invention relates in general to a telephone set adapted device serving as an accessory, and in particular to such a device or module that consists of a casing, the interior cavity of which can be seen as limited by two outer and opposing surface sections, located at a distance from each other, and by an edge section, that unites respective edge regions of these opposing surface sections to each other. The said cavity is to contain or enclose a cable spool or winder, for example, one that with advantage can comprise a centrally oriented axle or similar, a spring element related to or assigned to the axle and surrounding the axle, an electrical cable or wire oriented around the axle to form said cable spool, whereby it being possible to extend by a pulling force one end section of the cable from the cavity and casing against the action of a spring force, that arises from or is caused by said spring element, and it being possible to retract or automatically pull said one end section into the cavity and casing, with the aid of said spring force that arises from or is caused by said spring element during the pulling force.
Furthermore, said one end of the cable is to support an earpiece arrangement or other stop device, which, by the pulling action from said spring element and its force, will connect to and/or will be located close to and pulled towards the casing, while a second end section of said cable is arranged to, as a unit or as an extension unit, be able to extend out from the casing and said second end section supports, at its free end, a contact means, for example a male contact means, adapted for an interaction with a corresponding or complementary contact means that belongs to said telephone device or set, for example, a female contact means.
The present invention is based on demonstrating or forming a device or module, which is advantageously intended for an interaction with, and serving as an accessory to, any type of wireless telephone devices or sets. The expression "wireless" telephone device or set is principally used to denote a telephone device or set that can be carried in a hand (as a mobile telephone set) and that can be connected, by a radio connection, to an established mobile telecommunication network, and secondarily used to denote a telephone device or set that can be carried in a hand and that can interact, via various information transmission systems, usually having a short communication range with fixed or stationary two- way communication equipment, with a fixed or stationary sender/transmitter unit. The principal aim of the invention is to be able to offer an accessory that can be attached as a module to a wireless or mobile telephone device or set, which accessory can offer, in a simple manner, a so called "hands free" operation.
The Prior Art
Accessories that permit the creation of conditions for "hands free" functions, for portable wireless telephone devices or sets, are previously known in a number of different designs.
A number of different embodiments of various accessories are previously known for this purpose and are related to mobile telephone sets, and these have also been demonstrated or presented in the form of various module. In this way, the ability to offer, as an accessory to a mobile telephone set, a unit has been proposed and is previously known and is given the form of a headset and which can be connected via contact means to the mobile telephone device or set.
As an example of a prior art, with respect to such a unit, reference is made to the Swedish Patent Publication Serial No.: 466428 (corresponding to Patent Application Serial Number 90 02242-7).
The said publication reveals and describes a headset, which comprises a microphone (15), a loud speaker means (earpiece or insert earphone 14) and an electrical cable or wire (13). The microphone and the loud speaker are arranged at one end of the cable, while the other end of said cable is intended to be connected to a two-way communication device (a mobile telephone set).
The most significant characteristics or features are here that the loud speaker (14) is arranged at one end of the cable, at its farthest extent or end, and that the microphone (15) is arranged some distance from said end of the cable and then at an adapted distance from the loud speaker, in order to be supported by the cable itself and the attachment of the loud speaker to the ear of a user.
The ability to apply, what is known as, an "answering button" to the electrical cable or wire is also previously known. Such an answering button has as its function the ability to offer the possibility of being able to answer and terminate calls, without the need to influence and activate a button on the key-board of the telephone device or set itself.
Such a loud speaker means, which is denoted and formed as an earpiece, can be placed in a holder, when it is not being used.
Considering the significant properties or features that are associated with the present invention, it must be said that the use of a unit, that serves as a cable spool or winder or wire spool or winder, has also been previously suggested, where the cable spool is enclosed in a casing and where the ends of said cable or wire are arranged such that they are exposed outside of the casing.
The casing can here be considered to surround or enclose an interior cavity, that in general can be considered to be limited by two parallel opposing surface sections that belong to the casing, located at a distance from each other, with an edge section that unites edge regions of these surface sections. The said cavity can also contain or enclose a centrally oriented axle or similar, a spring element that surrounds said axle, a cable or wire oriented around the axle, it being possible to extend one end of the cable from the cavity against the action of a spring force that arises from or is caused by the said spring element, and it being possible to retract the end section into the cavity with the aid of an opposite spring force that arises from or is caused by the said spring element.
This accessory or device, furthermore, is constructed such that one end section of the said cable supports an earpiece or a loud speaker, and which, by the action of said spring force, can be considered to be connected to or supported by the casing, while the second end section of the cable extends out from the casing and can support, via a long connecting cable, having the form of a wounded spool, a contact means, for example a male contact means, that corresponds to a contact means on the telephone device or set.
This contact means, of a male type, is thus adapted for a fixed interaction, that is nevertheless easy to remove, with a contact means, for example a female contact means, that belongs to a mobile telephone device or set.
This device or unit is furthermore designed to and adapted for such an application whereby it is possible, with the aid of a special holder, to bring it into an interaction with a waist belt. There is also known, through the Patent Publication US-A-4, 942, 617, a cable or wire spool, in which two loud speaker means (28, 30) are connected to one end section (27) of a cable and having an electric plug arrangement (22), attached to the second end of the cable, that serves as a contact means.
The content of and the construction revealed by the Patent Publication US-A- 3, 984, 645 also describes a cable or wire spool or winder (28), with a connector means (26), and in which there is described an application to a waist belt.
Further, the following Patent Publications are also forming parts of the technical field or related fields, to which the present invention refers.

This publication describes a wireless telephone using an RF-receiver unit and an RF-transmitter unit and having a removable headset, the telephone and headset particularly suitable for applications where the RF-transmitter unit is switched on and off at o frequency less than twenty kilohertz.
The wireless telephone is coupled to the headset using a conventional stereo plug and jack.
A headset detect logic signal is generated from the speaker audio line.
A microphone current detect logic signal is generated from the microphone audio line.
A digital logic circuit, preferably including a microprocessor, monitors the headset detect logic signal and microphone current detect logic signals and generates a programmed response to the headset detect logic signal. The programmed response reduces audible noise to the headset user, generates a ringing signal on the speaker audio line, when an incoming call is received and allows the headset user to answer incoming calls, and place outgoing calls while touching only the headset. The wireless telephone and headset include circuitry to reject RF-noise and circuitry to attenuate RF-noise passed into the wireless telephone by along multi- conductor wire coupling the headset to the wireless telephone.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION Technical Problems
Considering that the technical evaluations, that one person skilled in this art must carry out within the relevant technical area or field in order to be able to offer a solution to one or several of the technical problems mentioned hereunder, that are posed are not only an initial necessary insight into the measures and/or the sequ- ence of measures that are to be taken, but also a necessary choice of the means (singular or plural) that are required, then the following technical problems listed hereunder should be, with respect to this, relevant during the development of the present invention. When considering the prior art, as has been described above, it should be regarded as a technical problem the ability to construct with simple means a device or an accessory, in the form of a module, that can offer a "hands free" function for any "wireless" telephone device or set. One technical problem lies in being able to create for this application conditions required for a module to be easy to attach to and easy to remove from a selected outer section surface, assigned to the wireless telephone device or set. It is also a technical problem to realise the importance of and the advantageous offered by a module, according to the present invention, in that one and the same module can be used and attached to a battery pack, belonging to and attached to a mobile telephone set and/or to a selected casing surface for a modified telephone set.
Thus there lies a technical problem in the ability to realise the significance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing a first part, that forms a first part of a two-part attachment means or device, and adapted to be easy to attach to and easy to remove from and to interact with a second part, said first part to be allowed to be applied to a selected outer section of one of the outer surfaces, that will define a module related casing.
There is a technical problem associated with the ability to realise the signific- ance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing said second part to be applied to one of the outer surfaces or one selected outer section that belongs to a wireless telephone device or set or a battery pack therefore.
There is also a technical problem in the ability to realise the significance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing a section of a cable or wire, located outside of the module related casing and close to the second end of the cable, to be assigned an adapted short length, such as shorter than 5 cm and preferably somewhat longer than 2 cm.
There is also a technical problem in the ability to realise the significance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing a contact means, adapted to interact with a corresponding or complementary contact means, assigned to a mobile telephone device or set, to be connected to said casing with the aid of a short section of said cable and by using a contact means that is easy to connect and disconnect. There is also a technical problem in the ability to realise the significance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing an attachment means or device, that is formed or constituted as a two-part means or device, to be constituted by one of each type of hook-and-loop tapes or so called "Velcro" tape or band. There is also a technical problem in the ability to realise the significance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing the soft type (the loop type tape) of the hook-and-loop tapes to be selected for the outer surface of the wireless or mobile device or set.
There is also a technical problem in being able to realise the significance of, and the advantages associated with, allowing one of the said hook-and-loop tapes to be placed centrally, or in any case essentially centrally, and adapted to extend in a longitudinal direction of the mobile device or set.
The Solution The present invention is now based on a telephone set related device serving as an accessory, and is formed as a module, said device or module displaying or constituting a casing, the interior cavity of which may be limited by two outer opposing surface sections located at a distance from each other, with a surrounding edge section that unites the edge regions of these surface sections. Said cavity contains or encloses a cable spool or winder, for example, with an axle or similar, a spring element that interacts with the axle, a cable oriented around the axle as a spool, and where it is possible to extend and pull one end section of the cable from the cavity and casing against an action of the spring force that arises from or is caused by said spring element, and where it is possible to retract and pull the end section into the cavity with the aid of an opposite acting spring force that arises from or is caused by said spring element.
One end section of the said cable extends from the casing and supports an earpiece, while the second end section of the cable extends out from the casing and supports a contact means, adapted for an interaction with a corresponding or com- plementary contact means that belongs to said telephone device.
In order to be able to solve one or several of the technical problems mentioned and described above, the present invention describes and suggests, in a first embodiment, the use of a first part, which is one part of a two-part attachment device or means, adapted such that it can interact, in a manner that makes it easy to attach to and easy to remove from, with a second part, said first part is applied to an outer surface and to a selected outer surface section of the said casing and that the said second part can be applied to an outer surface and a selected outer surface section related to a battery pack, related to and attached to said wireless telephone device or set.
As suggested embodiments, lying within the framework of the innovative concept, it is described and suggested that a cable section, extending from the casing, next to a second end section of the cable, is assigned an adapted length, which is, however, relatively short, such as shorter than 5 cm, but preferably somewhat longer than 2 cm.
One contact means, for example a male contact means, assigned to one end section of the cable section and adapted to the telephone device or set is connected to the said casing via the said section of the cable and a contact means that is easy to connect and disconnect.
Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the two-part attachment means is to be constituted by one of each type of hook-and-loop tapes.
In this case, it is described and suggested that the soft type (loop-type) of a hook-and-loop tape is to be selected for the outer surface of the wireless telephone device or set.
The said hook-and-loop tape is centrally, or at least essentially centrally, located and adapted to extend along the longitudinal extent of the device or module.
The present invention also discloses a second embodiment, in which is used a first part, which is one part of a two-part attachment device or means, adapted such that it can interact, in a manner that makes it easy to attach to and easy to remove from, with a second part, said first part is applied to an outer surface and to a selected outer surface section of the said casing and that the said second part can be applied to an outer surface and a selected outer surface section related to a wireless telephone device or set and its cover.
The said hook-and-loop tape is centrally, or at least essentially centrally, located and adapted to extend along the longitudinal extent of the device or accessory.
Advantages
The advantages that can primarily be regarded as associated with a device or an accessory in the form of a module, as described and suggested by the invention, and related to a wireless or mobile telephone device or set, are that there has in this way been created or caused the conditions required for being able to offer a location of an inventive module, that is reasonably freely chosen, for a telephone device or set, while remaining within an easy reachable range, and when using a "hands free" function in this respect, there is a readily accessible module representing a device or accessory, which functions as a cable spool or winder, and which can be directly attached to a battery pack related to and attached to the telephone device or set or to the telephone device or set itself, for example using a two-part attachment means or device such as "Velcro" tapes.
On such occasions, as those on which a user does not wish to use the possibilities offered by a separate module or device or accessory, this module can be easily removed from the telephone device or set, and a second part, that has been assigned to the telephone device or set, being a loop-part of said two-part attachment means, can hardly be considered to be disturbing, when this second part remains attached to the telephone device or set, available for use on a later occasion. The most significant features or characteristics of a telephone related device or accessory, related to the present invention, are more clearly specified for a first embodiment in the characterising part of the attached patent claim 1 and for a second embodiment in the characterizing part of the attached patent claim 9..
Short description of the accompanying drawings
A currently suggested telephone related module in the form. of a device or an accessory, demonstrating or exposing the particular significant characteristics that are associated with the present invention, will now be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawings in which;
Figure 1 Shows in a perspective view the reverse side of a mobile telephone device or set, to which has been attached a module, in the form of a device or an accessory, as suggested by the present invention, in a first embodiment, where the module is attached to a battery pack,

Figure 5 shows a side view of the module, according to Figure 4, attached to the cover of a wireless or mobile telephone device or set and with one end of the cable being somewhat extended from the module and
Figure 6 shows in a horizontal view the inner structure of the module, according to Figure 4, through the removal of an upper cover section.
Description of preferred embodiments It should initially be made clear that we have selected terms and a special terminology, in the subsequent description of the two embodiments suggested at the present time, that demonstrates the significant characteristics associated with the invention and what is described with reference to the embodiments suggested by the figures, shown in the attached drawings, is primarily to make clear the innovative concept of the invention.
It should, however, be taken into consideration that the expressions selected here are not to be seen as limiting to only the term selected and used here, but it is rather to be understood that each such selected term is to be interpreted such that it additionally covers all technical equivalents that act in the same manner, or in essentially the same manner, in order to in this way achieve the same intention and/or technical result, or essentially the same intention and/or technical result.
With reference to Figure 1 , thus, a telephone set related module in the form of a device or an accessory 1 is revealed there, which the module 1 attached in a manner that allows it to be easily removed from and attached to said mobile telephone device or set 2.
Although Figure 1 shows a mobile telephone set of T29S type, manufactured and sold by Ericsson, Sweden, it is clear that the principle of the invented module can very easily be used independently of the type of wireless telephone device or set that is used.
The telephone device or set 2 is considered to demonstrate a functional part or a main part 2a, to which main part is attached, in a first embodiment, a battery pack or a battery unit 2b, in a manner that is, in general, known.
The present invention describes and suggests the use of a separate module 1 , the interior cavity "K" of which is defined by a casing 1', here limited by two parallel, opposing surface sections 1a, 1b and that they are located at a short distance from each other, and by using a surrounding edge section 1c, that unites the edge regions (1a) (1b) of these two surface sections 1a, 1b.
It is clear that other forms of the module related casings 1 ' can be suggest where one or both of the opposing surface sections 1a, 1b can be integral with the edge section 1c. It is clear that the suggested forms of the surface sections 1a, 1b and of the edge section 1 c can be assigned other designs that deviate from those shown in the figures.
Without this being shown in detail in the drawings, the said module 1 and its cavity "K", contained by the casing 1', can contain or enclose, in a known manner, a centrally oriented axle or similar device, a spring element, surrounding the axle, a cable or wire, with electrically conducting conductors located or winded around the axle, from which axle one end section of the cable can be extended and pulled in a direction from the cavity "K" or casing 1' against the action of a spring force, which arises from and is caused by said spring element, and which can be withdrawn and pulled into the cavity or casing 1' with the aid of an opposite directed spring force, which arises from and is caused by said spring element and offers in this manner the function of a "roller blind".
One end section 3a of the said cable 3 (see Figure 3) is attached to and supports a loud speaker means in the form of an earpiece 4, which end section 3a is connected to said earpiece 4 and presses said earpiece against the casing V by said opposite directed spring force, either directly or indirectly, while the second end section 3b of the cable 3 extends without spring force activation a short distance out from the casing 1' and supports or is formed as a contact means 5, for example a male contact means, adapted to interact with a corresponding contact means 5a, for example a female contact means, that belongs to said telephone device or set 2. A first part 6a, of a two-part attachment means 6, is adapted to be able to interact, in a manner such, that it is easy to attach to and easy to remove from, with a second part 6b and the said first part 6a is applied to a narrow surface section 1b' that belongs to the outer surface or the outer surface section 1 b.
The said second part 6b is applied to an outer surface section 2b" of an outer surface 2b' for a wireless or mobile telephone device or set 2, such as a battery pack or unit 2b, that belongs to the device or set 2.
A short end section 3c, with a fixed length of the cable, that extends outside of the casing 1" and between said casing 1' and said second end section 3b of the cable, is to be assigned a selected length, that is adapted to extend outside of the casing 1', for example, shorter than 5 cm and preferably somewhat longer than 2 cm. Figure 1 demonstrates that it is to be suggested, as far as such is possible, to stretch this cable section 3c between the casing 1' and the contact means 5, while the cable is to have a length of 3-4 cm when attaching said casing 1' with its first part 6a of the attachment means 6 to a second part 6b related to the outer surface section 2b".
The location of the module, in the form of a device or accessory 1 , through said two-part attachment means 6, has been suggested here, to be selected such that a selected fixed length of the cable section 3c will be, as far as is possible, in a somewhat stretched state. The possibility of allowing this short cable section 3c to be constituted as a separate accessory, in the form of an extension cable 3c' with end related contact means 5, 7 also falls within the framework of the invention.
The contact means 5 and a second contact means 7 (not shown) related to the respective ends of this separate cable section 3c', which will then serve the purpose of being a short extension lead or cable.
The said contact means 5 and a short section of the cable 3c' can in this way, by means of said second contact means 7, easy be attach to and connected with the second end 3b' of the said cable, which in this way can achieve the form of a corresponding contact means T (not shown) attached to the casing 1 '. The first part 6a and the second part 6b of the two-part attachment means 6 are constituted or formed by one of each type of two hook-and-loop tapes 6a", 6b" or "Velcro" tapes.
The soft type 6b" of the loop tape of the hook-and-loop tapes has been selected for the outer surface 2b', such as the outer surface section 2b" of the battery pack 2b.
Said soft type 6b" is constituted by the loop part, while the hard type 6a" is constituted by the hook part of the two hook-and-loop tapes 6a, 6b.
Furthermore, the said parts 6a, 6b are here centrally placed, or at least essentially centrally placed, and adapted to extend along a longitudinal direction related to the module 2, or they can be assigned an orientation relative to the outer section or outer surface 1b of the casing 1 ', such that the module 1 achieves a desired extent. It will then become clear, especially from Figures 2 and 3, that the module 1 , and the one part 6a that is attached to it, can be given an arbitrary orientation relative to the second part 6b, and they can be displaced higher up along the longitudinal direction of the telephone device or set 2 towards an aerial 2c or further away from the aerial, all depending on the desire to be able to achieve easy accessibility for the earpiece 4, and on other relevant criteria.
Figure 1 illustrates that the earpiece 4 is to be adapted to extend somewhat obliquely relative to the telephone set and that it is to be directed towards the side of the aerial 2c at the attachment. The use of hook-and-loop tapes 6a, 6b make it possible to allow the module 1 to be rotated to and fixed in an arbitrary position, relative to the telephone device or set 2.
Figure 4 shows a horizontal view of a second embodiment of a module 1 or accessory, where the casing 1' of the module 1 has been given a form that is somewhat more rectangular than what is shown in Figure 3.
Here, it is shown that the earpiece 4 extends a small distance outside of the casing 1' by using a specially designed rigid cable section 3a', one end of that rigid section 3a' is formed integral with the earpiece 4 and the other end 3b or 3b' of the cable 3 is located inside or close to and may also abut towards the casing 1'. This module 1 is adapted for coaction with an outer surface area of a telephone set related cover.
Figure 6 shows that this section of cable 3a' is extended into the casing 1 ' by means of a further section of cable 3a", and it shows that these two sections of cable 3a', 3a" are assigned a metallic screening 10 and a protective plastic cover 11. The section 3a" has been assigned to a form that corresponds to a separate and somewhat crooked channel 60, within the casing 1'. This section 60 constitutes a part of the cavity "K".
The cable spool or winder 61 is itself constituted as an automatic winder (of a roller blind type) with a spring element (not shown), where the length of the cable 3a', 3" and part of 3 can vary between 60 cm and 100 cm, for example, approximately 80 cm.
The use of a locking mechanism 62 for the winder 61 is of a design that is, actually, previously known. The free section 3c of the cable 3 is here shown such that it can be assigned an adjustable length, in that a cable section 3c", that is located inside of the casing 1', can be wound up around three pegs, or equivalent means, that are oriented in a sideways direction, one of which has been given the reference number 63. A cover 1" that belongs to the module 1 is removable in a manner that is known.
Figure 5 shows in a side view the module 1 , according to Figures 4 and 6, attached to an outer surface area 2b' of a mobile telephone device or set 2', with the cable 3 somewhat extended from the module 1 , such that the sections 3a', 3a" of the cable become free up to a microphone 50.
Further it is illustrated in Figure 5 that the module 1 and the telephone set 2' are in a coordinated and fixed position.
A first part 6a, of a two-part attachment means 6, is adapted to be able to interact 6c, in a manner such that it is easy to attach to and easy to remove from, with a second part 6b, of said two-part attachment means 6. Said first part 6a is applied to an outer surface 1b of one of the outer sections 1b' that belongs to the said casing 1'.
It is possible to apply said second part 6b to an outer surface 20 of an outer surface section 2'b that belongs to the cover of the telephone device or set 2'. Figure 5 indicates that a battery pack 2'b is enclosed into a cover of the telephone set 2'.
For a more detailed description of an embodiment for a screening (11) and for a protective cover (12), reference is made to a Swedish Patent Application Serial Number 01 03744-9 entitled "Hands Free Unit". Naturally, the invention is not limited to what has been described above, such as, for example, the specified embodiments. The invention can be subject to modifications within the framework of the innovative concept as illustrated by the attached patent claims.
Special attention should be paid to the fact that each means, device or acces- sory shown can be combined with each other accessory shown within the framework in order to be able to achieve the desired technical function.
