Abstract

A polarization controller (60) for converting an input state of polarization of a received input optical signal into an output state of polarization, comprises a plurality of polarization modifying stages (20) for modifying the input state of polarization into the output state of polarization. Each stage allows to convert an optical signal from a first state of polarization to a second state of polarization in accordance to an applied operation parameter setting. An analysis unit at least substantially derives the input state of polarization from the determined output state of polarization in conjunction with the applied operation parameter setting for each of the plurality of polarization modifying stages.
