Abstract

A self-configuring network according to a preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a software component that allows devices on the network to take control over their configurations This software component allows devices on the LAN to become functional members of the network without manual configuration of their network components. It does this by providing the network component of each device with means to obtain values for its own configuration parameters (also known as 'configuration objects') from other devices on the network, and help other components to obtain values for their configuration parameters.
