Abstract

Built-in sockets in the hacksaw-frame and handle at alternative angles in relation to the blade, constitute the fundamental key-structure of the invention. The resultant achievements in development, now cover the entire region of angles from 90° to 180° in relation with the blade. The socket - Fig. 1 -no. 6 serves as guide-socket for the tension bolt no. 5. The socket - no. 9 serves as guide-socket for the blade-setting bolt - no. 8. It should be noted that the nearer the socket-angle 6 of the tension bolt 5 to 90° - the greater the ease of applying tension to the blade - as opposed to the opposite direction towards 180°. The alternative socket-angles from 90° to 135° have therefore been implimented for tension-mechanism - fig. 1 - (5 and 6). Alternative angles from 136° to 180° have been utilized for blade-setting mechanisms.

Description

HACKSAW WITH HIGH TENSION SAW BLADE
Technical Field
The invention lies in the field of hand-tools, particularly a range of hacksaws that cover a wide field of uses for general - and specialized purposes. The hacksaw - as verified by title- is generally known to he an unrefined hand-tool that is used for crude cutting of metal.
Background Art
Comprising a "blade set in a frame, the hacksaw has survived almost unchanged for generations, as an indispensable tool, yet regardless of characteristic primitive features.
An essential requirement for a hacksaw to' he used effectively, is a proper tension-mechanism, the proven fact heing that tension provides "better quality of use and longer lasting of bladeso Tension on a conventional hacksaw is achieved only
"by exertion of great force on a nut screwed to a tension holt that is in straight line with the blade, indicating total absence of mechanical advantage, in a primitive mechanism. Other mechanisms for tensioning blades have been introduced, but close examination indicated that improvements were insignificant.
Examples of such mechanisms are US patents57β8788 6079109 and 6134791.
There are introductions of hacksaws with specialized frames, however without claims of high-tension capabilities.
Examples are South African design patent A98/071 and patent 96/7425. Disclosure
Having built numerous prototype-hacksaws to determine the effectiveness of' specific angles in experimental tension-mechanisms - in different combinations varying from 90°- angles to 180 - angles in relation to the sawblade, the claims of the invention on the resultant achievements now cover the entire region of angle-tension mechanisms as stated above.
The fundamental characteristic of the invention thus constitutes an adaptable key-structure that provides great versatility, - on which structure a large range of high-tension hacksaws have been developed.
Built-in sockets in the hacksaw-frame and handle at alternative angles, constitute the key-structure. The built-in sockets serve as guide-sockets for : ( a ) the tension-adjustment bolt ( PIG. 1. ( a ) ( b ) the blade-setting bolt ( PIG. 1. ( b ) The sockets and bolts are preferably square-shaped, for better guidance of linear movement, greater stability, as well as constituting the blade-locking-mechanism.
Guide-sockets in curved configuration, with matching bolts have also been incorporated, that provides further proof of great versatility, as illustrated in PIG. 17 and PIG. 26. Development of the invention has delivered practical proof that the nearer the socket-angle of the tension-mechanism to the right angle of 90° in relation to the sawblade, the greater the ease of applying tension, as opposed to the opposite direction towards the 180 - straight angle. The alternative tension socket-angles from 90° - to 135 - have therefore been incorporated in the development of a large range of high-tension - and extra high-tension hacksaws that cover a very wide field of allround practical use. The alternative socket-angles in the opposite direction, from 136°- to 1δ0°- are being utilized for blade-setting mechanisms - including further development. The angle-tension mechanism producing a very effective mechanical advantage, is a technical achievement that has never before been implemented to advantageous effect on hacksaws. The technical gain indicates a strong similarity with the mechanical advantage of levers, by the following comparison : A. The tension guide-socket ( fig 1 ) - no.6 - being the fixed support ( fulcrum ) B. : The tension bolt ( fig 1 ) - no.5 - implemented as lever however in a peculiar linear movement, instead of the conventional leverage-motion.
C. : The blade ( fig 1 ) - no. - hooked to a pin on the lower end of the tension bolt - constitutes the resisting force, the opposite-end of the said blade being firmly anchored to the blade-setting bolt (fig 1 ) no.8.
D. : The threaded opposite-end of the tension bolt - no. 5 is fitted with a tension-knob ( fig i ) - no . 7 that provides the applying force.
The tension knob pulls the tension bolt upward, at an obtuse angle through the guide-socket -no. 6 toward high tension, with very great ease. RANGE OP HACKSAWS,NUMBERED PARTS AND BRIEP DESCRIPTION IG 1. GENERAL PURPOSE HIGH-TENSION HACKSAW
