Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for swing fittings for windows, where the fittings comprise a frame- mounting for fastening to a window frame, a rod for fastening to a window trim and a number of intermediate arms between the frame-mounting and the rod, arranged to swing the window from a shut position to an open position, and a releasable locking means that is fitted to the frame- mounting making it possible to open the window from a limited opening, such as an airing position, to the open position.
- Fittings for windows are known. Also known are fittings that comprise an arm that is fastened to a window trim and an arm that is fastened to a window frame, and where two intermediate arms are fitted between the two aforementioned arms. Such that a system of articulated rods is thereby formed on each side of the window, which is arranged to be opened in an approximate scissors form, and which supports the window trim when this is opened. It is also known to arrange a safety catch, a so-called child-catch, between the arm that is fastened to the window frame and the lowest of the intermediate arms, so that the window cannot be opened further than to a limited opening.
- the safety catch is designed as a slide fitting fastened as mentioned to the arm in the window frame and can only be moved in a vertical direction.
- the slide fitting has an opening that engages with a hook on the lower intermediate arm, so that the window cannot be opened further than a limited opening without the slide fitting being moved vertically upwards, whereby the hook comes out of the engagement with the opening in the slide fittings.
- the use of child-catches in swing fittings for windows is known, but all known safety catches are placed behind the lower intermediate arm and work between the arm fastened to the window frame and the intermediate arm.
- the locking body safety catch
- the locking body can be moved past the inter- mediate arm and work directly between the arm fastened to the window frame and the arm fastened to the window trim, something which thereby provides a freer construction.
- the locking body can be fitted between one of the intermediate arms and the arm that is fastened to the window frame, which shall be explained in more detail later.
- the present solution provides a safety catch which is arranged to be moved in an approximate straight line movement past the intermediate arm so that the safety catch, which is fastened to the frame-mounting, is engaged with the arm fastened to the window trim all the time.
- the advantage with this is that forces which work on the safety catch are transferred to the frame-mounting, so that one part of the safety catch, lies against the lower part of the intermediate arm.
- a disadvantage with the known solutions is that the force that is transferred to the arms is large and unfavourable. The arms can be bent and the safety catch and fitting operations will be destroyed.
- the present solution provides the advantages that the force does not affect the intermediate arms.
- the fittings according to the invention withstand larger forces.
- the construction gives more freedom in choice of dimensions and less danger of operating errors during large loads on the safety catch.
- the safety catch is situated lower down on the fitting, something that makes it easier to operate the safety catch.
- a preferred embodiment of the present invention is characterised in that a locking body is fitted to the frame- mounting so that it can swing outwards and be lifted and lowered, and that an outwardly extending section of the lower part of the locking body is arranged to engage with a blocking body, such as a hook, on the rod.
- Preferred embodiments are characterised in that the locking body is arranged to work together with a guide-fitting secured in, or to, the frame-mounting, and that the lower part of the locking body, comprising the outwardly extending section, is arranged to be rotated in an approximate straight line movement past the lower intermediate arm when the window is opened to a limited opening.
- a guide-fitting secured to the frame-mounting can comprise a number of tilted, mainly downward facing guiding grooves to work together with a corresponding number of studs on the locking body and a number of other fastening/guiding grooves, whereby the locking body can be rotated in the mentioned approximate straight line movement at the same time as the locking body and the guide-fitting can be lifted in the vertical direction.
- the mentioned tilted guiding studs can further comprise an upper and a lower groove, where the grooves are formed such that the locking body remains standing in an outer position when the window is in an open position, and when the window is shut the outwardly extending section of the locking body is forced to engage with the blocking body on the rod.
- the upper groove and the lower groove can be deflected, so that an upper and a lower part of the respective deflected grooves form an angle in relation to each other.
- the upper groove and the lower groove can be made in an approximate S-shape, so that an upper, an intermediate and a lower part of the respective grooves form different, or identical angles with each other.
- the rod can comprise a stud arranged to be moved towards an upper part of the outwardly extending section of the locking body, whereby the locking body is led into engagement with the blocking body when the window is shut.
- the outer side of the rod can comprise a number of longitudinal grooves for the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod, where the grooves are arranged to receive a replaceable cover with a profile adapted to the rod and the grooves.
- One or more of the longitudinal grooves can run on each side of the outer outwardly extending section of the rod, for the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod, and the cover can be formed in an approximate U-shape, where the outer edges are bent inwards and arranged to fit into the longitudinal grooves.
- the rod can comprise a number of longitudinal grooves on the outer side of an outwardly extending section
- the cover can comprise one or more inner outwardly extending sections adapted to be led into the longitudinal grooves of the rod, whereby the cover is arranged to be detachably fastened to the rod.
- An alternative embodiment of a device for a swing fitting is characterised in that a locking body is fitted to one of the intermediate arms, and that an outwardly extending section of the locking body is arranged to engage with a corresponding blocking body on the rod.
- the intermediate arm, to which the locking body is fastened comprises a lower part made with an outwardly swinging, backwards directed, section arranged to receive the locking body.
- the backwards directed section can be U-shaped.
- a fastening fitting secured to the intermediate arm can encompass a number of tilted, predominantly downwards directed, guiding grooves to work with a corresponding number of studs on the locking body and a number of other fastening/guiding grooves, whereby the locking body can be rotated in a straight line movement at the same time as the locking body and the fitting can be lifted in a vertical direction.
- the grooves can be formed so that the locking body remains standing in an outer position when the window is in an open position, and that when the window is shut, the outwardly extending section of the locking body is forced to engage with the blocking body on the rod.
- the locking body can comprise a longitudinal opening with an undercut groove that is adapted for engagement with a blocking body, such as a hook, on the rod.
- Figure 1 shows the swing fitting according to the invention in a closed position.
- Figure 2 shows an embodiment of a locking body and fastening fitting according to the invention.
- Figure 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the locking body and guide-fitting, according to the present invention.
- Figures 4a, 4b and 4c show an embodiment of the swing fitting with the locking body and the guide-fitting shown in figure 3, in a shut, limited opening and open position, respectively.
- Figures 5 and 6 show alternative embodiments of a cover to the swing fitting according to the present invention.
- Figure 7 shows an alternative embodiment of the present invention.
- the swing fitting 10 comprises a number of arms that are joined together.
- a first arm hereafter called frame-mounting 12 is fitted to the window frame.
- the frame-mounting 12 is connected at its upper and lower ends with a number of intermediate arms, preferably two arms 14, 16, which in turn are articulated with an outer arm, hereafter called rod 18, which is fastened to the window trim.
- the swing fitting is arranged so that the window can swing from a shut position to an open position, and also to a rotated position for washing of the outside of the window.
- Two swing fittings, secured to the opposite sides of the window, are used, where the one fitting comprises a safety catch.
- a locking body 20 is fitted to the lower part of the frame- mounting 12.
- the locking body is arranged to work as a safety catch so that the window cannot be opened further than to a limited opening, such as an airing position, without the locking body being released.
- a safety catch are known from the state of the art and their aim will not be explained further.
- the locking body 20 comprises a hook-formed plate 22 which is arranged so that it can be moved into a guide- fitting/fastening fitting in that a number of studs 26a, 26b in the plate are led into adapted guiding grooves 28a, 28b in the fitting.
- the guide-fitting can comprise a separate fitting that is fastened to the frame-mounting or the fitting can be an integrated part of the frame- mounting.
- the guide-fitting works as an anchorage point for the locking body and furthermore comprises fastening openings or fastening grooves/guiding grooves 27a, 27b that can be used for connection of the fitting to the frame- mounting 12, for example, with the aid of rivets, screws or other fastening means.
- the grooves 27a, 28b are by and large arranged vertically in the fitting.
- Vertical in this connection, implies a direction that runs in the longitudinal direction of the fitting.
- the fitting 24 is arranged so that it can move in a vertical direction, in that studs glide in the guiding grooves 27a, 27b when the fitting is subjected to a vertical force at its lower end, whereby the fitting and the locking body are led upwards in the vertical direction.
- the upper guiding groove 28a and the lower guiding groove 28b can be deflected so that an upper and a lower part of the respective deflected grooves form an angle in relation to each other.
- Figure 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the locking body and the guide-fitting, where the guiding groove has a different deflection to that shown in figure 2.
- the upper guiding groove 29a and the lower guiding groove 29b have an approximate S-shape, so that an upper, an intermediate and a lower part of the respective grooves form different, or identical angles, with each other.
- fastening grooves/guiding grooves 27a, 27b, for connection to the frame-mounting are provided as well as the mentioned guiding movement, as described in relation to figure 2.
- the locking body is fastened to the guide-fitting as mentioned with the help of, for example, studs 26a, 26b that are arranged so that they can be led into the grooves 28a, 28b.
- the studs are also formed so that they secure the locking body to the guide-fitting at the same time as the studs can be moved freely in the grooves.
- the grooves 28a, 28b, or 29a, 29b, in the guide-fitting 24 are formed so that when the window trim is rotated, for example, to a washing position, the locking body remains standing in the outer position until the locking body has engaged with the hook on the rod 18. This is an important feature of the present solution because if this is not the case the locking body will be pushed into an inner position before it engages. This would be a problem because many windows cannot be rotated completely to a washing position because of surrounding building details. Because of the form of the grooves, such a locking body remains standing in the outer position for engagement in a washing position.
- the locking body In shutting the window the locking body is forcefully guided to engage.
- the locking body When the window is shut the locking body is forced to climb over the hook on the rod 18. If friction, paint, etc, prevent the locking body from falling down of its own and engage with the hook on the rod, the locking body can be forced with the aid of one or more studs.
- the rod 18 can comprise a stud that is situated adjacent to, and somewhat above, the hook 31. The stud will thereby hit the tilted back of the outwardly extending section of the locking body. So that the stud is arranged to be led towards an upper part of the outwardly extending section of the locking body, whereby the locking body is led into engagement with the blocking body 31, i.e. the hook, when the window is shut.
- the rod 18 can comprise a number of longitudinal grooves for the whole of, or parts of, the length of the rod, where the grooves are arranged to receive a replaceable cover 30 with a profile fitted to the rod and the grooves.
- the figures 4a, 4b and 4c show an embodiment of the swing fitting with the alternative locking body, which is shown in figure 3, in shut position, limited opening and open position, respectively.
- the plate 22 of the locking body 20 will be engaged with the blocking body 31 when the window is opened from a shut to a limited opening.
- the locking body is led into the guiding grooves 29a, 29b, so that when the window is opened the locking body will perform an approximate straight line movement past the lower intermediate arm 16, while it is still engaged.
- Figure 5 shows an alternative preferred embodiment of the present invention, in which the rod 18 comprises a cover 30.
- the cover has an approximate U-shape with outer edges 32a, 32b bent inwards, where the edges are arranged to fit into the longitudinal grooves 34a, 34b, so that the cover is detachably fastened to the rod 18.
- the grooves can run for the whole of, or part of, the length of the rod.
- the grooves can be cut after the rod is manufactured, or if the rod is manufactured by other production methods, such as for example extrusion or the like, the grooves can be manufactured at the same time.
- Figure 6 shows an alternative embodiment of the rod 18 and the cover 30.
- the rod encompasses an outer longitudinal groove 38, possibly several grooves, in the outer side of the outwardly extending section 36 of the rod.
- the cover 30 comprises an outwardly extending section 40 which is arranged to be led into the groove 38, and in a corresponding way to the preferred embodiment, detachably fastens the cover 30 to the rod 18.
- the cover can also be formed in an approximate U-shape, but the cover can also be formed with other profiles.
- Figure 7 shows a further alternative embodiment of a swing fitting comprising a number of articulated arms.
- a first arm i.e. the frame- mounting 52
- the frame- mounting 52 is at its upper and lower ends articulately connected to a number of intermediate arms, preferably two arms 54, 56, which in turn are articulately connected to an outer arm, i.e. rod 58, that is fastened to the window trim.
- the swing fitting is, in a corresponding way, as described above, arranged so that the window can swing from a shut position to an open position, and also to a rotated position for washing of the outside of the window.
- Two swing fittings arranged at opposite edges of the window are used, where one fitting has a safety catch.
- a locking body 50 is fitted to one of the intermediate arms. In this case to the lowest arm. Because of the fastening of the locking body, the lowest arm 54 is modified in that a lower part of the arm is bent backwards so that the lower part is formed in an approximate U-shape and arranged to receive and secure the locking body.
- the locking body can swing from one position parallel to the lower intermediate arm and to an outwardly extending position.
- the outer part of the locking body is arranged to engage with a blocking body, such as a hook, on the rod 58, in that the locking body comprises a longitudinal opening with an undercut groove that is adapted for engagement with the hook.
- a locking body according to what is shown in figures 2 and 3 can also be used in this alternative embodiment, and will then be arranged to the intermediate arm in a way corresponding to the frame-mounting described previously. The shape and placing of the guiding grooves will then be modified to adapt to the altered position.
