Abstract
Simple monitoring system and monitoring method capable of accurately monitoring the interior of a target region, and a high-speed processing. The monitoring system (1) comprises a first imaging element (11) having a fist number of scanning lines (13) for imaging a target monitoring region, a second imaging element (12) provided in a scanning direction and in parallel to the first imaging element (11) and having a second number of scanning lines (14) for imaging the target monitoring region, a scanning line extraction means (22) for extracting mutually-corresponding, a third number, fewer than either of the first number and the second number, of scanning lines from the two imaging elements, the first and second imaging elements (11), (12), a distant information acquiring means (23) for acquiring distant information up to a target (2) based on images formed on scanning lines extracted by the scanning line extraction means (22), and a detection processing means (27) for monitoring the target (2) by using distance information obtained by the distant information acquiring means (23).
