Abstract

The vacuum cleaner (1) according to the invention provides the grounding of the static electricity built-in elbow (3), brush (4) and the extension tube (2), to the floor being cleaned, over a contact surface (9) provided at the base of the brush (4). The grounding of the static electricity built-in elbow (3), brush (4) and the extension tube (2), to the floor being cleaned, is provided by one or more than one ring (7) and one or more than one wire (5).

Description

VACUUM CLEANER WITH DISSIPATING ELECTROSTATIC CHARGES NOZZLE
The present invention relates to a vacuum cleaner that provides the grounding of the built-up static electric charge formed due to friction during suction of dust /dirt.
During the use of the vacuum cleaners, particularly on surfaces loaded with electrostatic charge, such as carpets, electrostatic charges of extremely high voltages tend to build up, due to the friction created by the impact of the dust/dirt laden to the inner surface of the metallic extension tube. Such accumulated electrostatic charges mostly occur on the extension tube may create a potential danger both for the user and the equipment.
In the state of art, directing the electrostatic charge accumulated in the extension tube to a ground potential by means of a grounding wire is lαiown. Wires with electrical conductivity are placed on the external surface of each pipe and dust collector in order to provide the grounding of the static electricity accumulated in the extension tubes of the vacuum cleaners. However, a contact problem is experienced at the connection points of the extension tube with the elbow and the brush.
USA Patent No. 3711742 relates to draining off the static electricity built-up in the extension tube, by grounding it through the user. In this embodiment, a conductor disposed between the metallic tube and the handle with which the user is in continuous contact, causes the electrostatic charge to be grounded and does not allow it to be accumulated in the extension tube. However this method is not very healthy from the user point of view.
In USA Patent No. 4715086 a vacuum cleaner comprising a rotatable brush, a handle and an extension tube, which are mechanically or pneumatically interconnected, wherein the electrostatic charge is dissipated or drained off from its components to the surrounding air, by means of an annular corona discharge element having a roughened surface and serrations.
The object of the present invention is to realize a vacuum cleaner that can provide the grounding of the electrostatic charges built-up due to friction, from the base of the dust collector nozzle.
The vacuum cleaner realized in order to attain said object of the present invention has been illustrated in the attached drawings, wherein:
Figure 1, is the schematic view of the vacuum cleaner.
Figure 2a, is the schematic view of the ring, wire and shield.
Figure 2b, is the schematic view of the ring with a projection and the wire.
Figure 3, is the exploded, three-dimensional view of the brush, extension tube, elbow, ring and wire.
Figure 4, is the bottom view of the brush.
The components shown in the drawings have been enumerated separately as listed below:

The vacuum cleaners (1) include a body (10) containing the motor unit that realizes the suction function and the control unit; a flexible hose (11); an adapter (12) connected to the hose to facilitate the handling of the hose by the user; a metallic extension tube (2) connected to be adapter (12); and a brush (4) fitted on the end of the extension tube (2) to clean the rugs and/or floors.
The vacuum cleaner (1) according to the invention, provides the grounding of the static electricity built-in particularly in the metallic extension tube (2), to the floor being cleaned over a contact surface (9) provided at the base of the brush (4). In order to conduct said accumulated electrostatic charge to the brush (4) without being influenced by the mounting/dismounting of the extension pipe (2) and the brush (4) to from each other, one or more conductive rings (7) and one or more conductive wires (5) placed on the connection surfaces between the brush (4) and the extension tube (2), are used. Said wires (5) connect the rings (7) with other rings (7) or with the contact plate (9). In a preferred embodiment, said ring (7) and wire (5) are produced and used as one piece. In another embodiment of the present invention, said ring (7) and wire (5) are used as two distinct parts and joined to each other for example by soldering during their assembly.
Said wire (5) is preferably placed into one or more channels (6) opened on the support piece. In cases when said wire (5) is not placed in a channel (6) or is in an exposed position, one or more shields (14) are used to protect it.
Said ring (7) is placed in one or more suitable recesses (8) opened on the extension tube (2) and/or brush (4). It can easily be kept in contact with another ring (7) or with the conductive surface of the extension tube (2), by virtue of its hollow cylindrical structure, while the extension tube (2) and the brush (4) are removable fitted to each other. More than one ring (7) in contact with each other and placed preferably on both contacting surfaces, is used in order to prevent the torsions occurred during mounting/dismantling from detaching the connection between the ring (7) and the wire (5). The rings (7) used at different parts such as the extension tube (2) and the brush (4), have dimensions corresponding to the surface they are intended to be placed. Said rings (7) are placed in the recess (8) on the inner surface of large pieces and on the outer surface of the small pieces. In this case, the electrostatic charge has to be conducted to the base of the brush (4) over the conductors (5) continuously, i.e. always keeping the contract at connection points. The contact surface (9) at the base of the brush (4), in contract with the floor, such as a metal plate, screw, and the like, enables the grounding of the electrostatic charge. Grounding continues until the electrostatic charges in these objects are brought to equal quantities. In this way, the high amount of electrical charge, built-up during the use of the vacuum cleaner is transferred to the surface being cleaned, without affecting the user.
In another embodiment of the present invention, one or more projections (13) on the ring (7) which present said ring (7) from moving by being attached on the place they are situated, are used so that the connection between said ring (7) and the wire (5) is not detached as the result of torsions. Thus, groimding is provided without being influenced by the continuous contact of the ring (7) and the wire, by the movements of the components such as the extension tube (2) and brush (4) they are placed on, and/or by their being removably mounted; and the user health is protected.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises an elbow (3) which provides the connection between the brush (4) and the extension tube (2), and which is attached to the brush (4) and used together. In this embodiment, when the elbow (3) is made of a conducting material, it serves as a conductor between the extension tube (2) and the brush (4). Grounding is realized over the contact surface (9) by means of a ring (7) and a wire (5) placed only on the brush (4). When the elbow (3) is made of a non-conductive material, grounding is provided over the contact surface (9), by means of the ring (7) and the wire (5) placed on it, by conducting the electrostatic charge on the extension tube (2) to said ring (7) and wire (5) on the brush (4).

Claims

1. A vacuum cleaner (1) comprising a body (10) containing the motor unit that realizes the suction function and the control unit; a flexible hose (11); an adapter (12) connected to the hose to facilitate the handling of the hose by the user; a metallic extension tube (2) connected to the adapter (12); a brush (4) fitted on the end of the extension tube (2) to clean the rugs and/or floors; characterized with one or more wires (5) that conduct the electrostatic charge built-up particularly in the metallic extension tube (2) during the suction operation, to a contact surface (9) placed at the bottom of the brush (4) and with one or more rings (7) at the end portions of said wires (5), which are placed at the connection points of the extension tube
(2) and the brush (4) and which provide the grounding of the wires by keeping them in contact with each other.
2. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1, characterized with conductive wire (5) and ring (7) made as one piece.
3. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claims 1 to 2 characterized with the rings (7) having dimensions corresponding to the surface they are intended to be placed, being fitted in the recess (8) on the im er surface of large pieces and on the outer surface of the small pieces, thus avoiding any contact deficiency problems.
4. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1, characterized with an elbow
(3) made of a conductive material, which provides the connection between the brush (4) and the extension tube (2), and which is attached to the brush
(4) and used together or seperately.
5. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1-3 characterized with an elbow
(3) made of a non-conductive material which provides the connection between the brush (4) and the extension tube (2), and which is attached to the brush (4) and used together and wherein the conductivity function between the brush (4) and the extension tube (2) is provided by said ring (7) and wire (5).
6. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1-5, characterized with one or more channels (6) on the part to which said wire (5) is attached so that the wire (5) can be placed in it.
7. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1-6, characterized with one or more insulating shields (14) that are fitted on said conducting wire (5) to protect it.
8. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1-7 characterized with one or more recesses (8) opened on the extension tube (2), elbow (3) and brush
(4), wherein the ring (7) is placed.
9. A vacuum cleaner (1) as defined in Claim 1-8 characterized with one or more projections (13) on the ring (7) which prevent said ring (7) from moving by attaching them on the place they are situated, so that the connection between said ring (7) and the wire (5) is not detached as the result of torsions generated when said extension tube (2), elbow (3) and brush (4) are attached and detached to or from each other.
