Abstract

The object of the invention is a nozzle (S) of a vacuum cleaner, which is meant to be connected to a hose of a vacuum cleaner either directly or by means of a stiff tube, and which noozle (S) is comprised of an elongated suction head (1) with at least two suction openings (4b) and which is connected lengthwise in one end to an angle part (2), which is connected to an attaching part (3). Suction openings (4b) in the nozzle in accordance with the invention are placed on that long side of the suction head (1), which is meant to be pointed essentially against the surface to be cleaned.

Description

Nozzle for vacuum cleaner
The present invention relates to a nozzle of a vacuum cleaner, which is meant to be connected to a hose of a vacuum cleaner either directly or by means of a stiff tube, and which nozzle is comprised of an elongated suction head with at least two suc- tion openings and which head is connected lengthwise in one end to an angle part, which is connected to an attaching part.
There are many various types of nozzles, each for a special purpose. Floor nozzles, furniture nozzles and nozzles for cleaning radiators may be mentioned. Almost all manufactures have their own version of the basic types.
However, there has been noticed a lack of a nozzle for vacuuming under low furniture on the market. Among present furniture there are many pieces of furniture in use under which can not be reached with a usual crevice nozzle. However, that type of a nozzle is just the one, which is used to finish the work while there is not a better one available. Vacuuming by means of a nozzle like this is difficult also be- cause the handle of the hose or of the extension tube of a vacuum cleaner appears to be close to the floor, which means bowing close to the floor. It is difficult and even risky especially for aged people and people in poor health to bow like that. Furthermore, the suction opening in the earlier mentioned nozzle is placed, as commonly known, in the outer end of the nozzle. Therefor vacuuming under furniture is difficult even in places, which the nozzle reaches. The result very easily remains poor. Loose dust is easy to remove, but powdery dust on the floor is removed only there where the peak of the nozzle has touch the floor.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a nozzle, by using of which the earlier presented disadvantages are eliminated. Especially, the purpose of the invention is to provide a nozzle, which besides this may be used as a floor nozzle on smooth floors and on carpets.
The object of the invention is accomplished by a nozzle, the characteristics of which are presented in the claims.
Suction openings in the nozzle in accordance with the invention are placed on the long side of the suction head, which is meant to be pointed against the surface to be cleaned. The nozzle in accordance with the invention eliminates mentioned disadvantages. Furthermore, it may successfully be used as a floor nozzle on smooth floors and on carpets. Vacuuming is done very well also under other furniture not only under low furniture by means of this nozzle. For example, vacuuming between legs of a chair under a table is done very handy by means of the nozzle in accordance with the invention. Handling erconomics, which reminds of sweeping with an ordinary brush rather than toiling reminding of pushing in front of your, as working with present nozzles, has surely its part in this. There are certain similarities in handling the new nozzle with the handling of an ice-hockey stick and therefor it is possible to get young men in families interested in vacuuming.
Next, the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In these applications the nozzle has been planned to be manufactured mainly of thermoplastic by injection moulding or blow moulding.

In all figures the nozzle S includes the suction head 1, which is moved along the object to be vacuumed, the angle part 2, by means of which it is possible to do the vacuuming in standing position, and the attaching part 3, to which the hose or a stiff tube of a vacuum cleaner is connected (these are not illustrated in figures).
In figure 1 there is a suction crevice 4 almost as long as the suction head in the suction head 1, through which the dust from the place to be vacuumed is removed through the angle part 2 and the attaching part 3 to a hose connected to it. In this version the flow bosses 5 are made of acid-proof steel wires, which have been placed crosswise in regard to the suction crevice 4, over it, advantageously at few centimetres intervals. The length of the suction head 1 is advantageously 40 - 60 cm, such that vacuuming under an ordinary bookcase is remarkable easy, but the length is however being within reasonable limits being handy to use. It is easy to vacuum bigger pieces of furniture, such as desks from two sides to the half way. Vacuuming of a smooth floor is carried out by sweeping with natural crosswise curved move. The inclination of the angle part 2 and the floor, or the surface in general to be vacuumed is advantageously 45 °. Very upright position decreases the effect of vacuuming, because in that case the person doing the vacuuming is also in relatively upright, taut position. A small angle, essentially less than 45 °, on the other hand, makes the person doing the vacuuming to bow while working, which strains the back.
The attaching part 3 is planned to be such, that it is suitable with hoses of as many various vacuum cleaners as possible. On the other hand, if the product is manufactured for a special mark of vacuum cleaner, the suitability for especially that type is secured to be the best possible.
In figure 2 there is a variant to manufacture the flow bosses. This variant includes some bosses 5 a made to the plastic suction head. The advantage of this solution is the economical manufacture, because the bosses are made of the same material without special working phase. The functional construction does not differ from the earlier mentioned.
In figure 3 there is still another solution for the construction of the suction surface of the nozzle S. It includes advantageously part 6 made of fine steel plate, in which openings 4b are made for suction crevices and bosses 5b for flow bosses. In this solution excellent durability and reasonable economical manufacture are combined.
Figure 4 presents the angle part 2 with a joint 7. Although the stiff angle part in accordance with the figure 1 is enough in many cases, some advantages may be gained by modifiability of the angle part. The angle part 2 comprises the joint 7 connecting turnable the suction head 1 and the attaching part 3. The joint includes advantageously a tightening mechanism 8, for example, a tension screw, the tension nut 8a of which is presented in figure. The tightening mechanism may be used to regulate the turning resistance of the joint. The joint 7 gives the user the possibility to choose the wanted angle between the suction head 1 and the attaching part 3 even by phases of work.
Figure 5 illustrates the connection of the angle part 2 and the attaching part 3 by means of a flexible bellows 9. Simply turning the attaching part 3 with the suction tube of the vacuum cleaner (not illustrated) may carry out the change of the angle of it while working. The regulation of this version is superior quick and a natural measure in comparison with the regulation of the version with the joint 7, althought the accuracy of regulation of the one with a joint is better.
Yet figure 6 illustrates the connection 10 of the angle part 2 to the suction head 1, which has been constructed such, that it makes it possible to turn the suction head 1 round its longitudinal axis in regard to the angle part 2. The connection 10 in itself is, by technique, a usual male-female-connection with a groove in one part and suit- able to it nails in the other part. This enables to vacuum also under a double bed by means of the nozzle in accordance with the invention, as the tube of the vacuum cleaner functions as an extension of the nozzle S on the same level. However, one has to bow as earlier while vacuuming under beds. Turning the suction head 1 makes many asymmetric working phases easier, for example vacuuming of walls.
Besides earlier mentioned examples of construction also commonly used brush parts in nozzles, made advantageously of bristle and/or of rough plush-like cloth, may be connected to the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. Also many other variations, versions and development results are possible within the frames of the idea of the invention formed in the claims.

Claims

1. A nozzle of a vacuum cleaner (S), meant to be connected to a hose of a vacuum cleaner either directly or by means of a stiff tube, which nozzle (S) is comprised of an elongated suction head (1) including at least two suction openings (4b), which is connected in longitudinal direction in one end to an angle part (2), which is connected to an attaching part (3), characterized in that the suction openings (4b) are placed on that long side of the suction head, which is meant to be pointed essentially against the surface to be vacuumed.
2. A nozzle (S) in accordance with claim 1, characterized in that it is sup- plied with knot-like or elongated suction bosses (5, 5a, 5b).
3. A nozzle (S) in accordance with claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the vertical angle between the suction head (1) and the attaching part (3) has been built to be adjustable by means of a joint (7) and a tightening mechanism (8).
4. A nozzle (S) in accordance with claim 1, characterized in that the angle between the suction head (1) and the attaching part (3) has been built to be adjustable by means of a bellows (9), which by itself connects the angle part (2) and the attaching part (3).
