Abstract
The 'ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION SYSTEM', consists of a movable platform (1) installed at the level of the roadbed (2) which upon receiving a gravitational pressure equivalent to a loaded truck (3) will actuate a mechanical linkage system (4) that in turn will actuate a hydraulic compression fluid system (5), that will be responsible for driving a hydraulic motor (6) connected to an electric generator (7). Once the mentioned truck (3) passes on the apparatus, the operation of the same is started. It reverts to its normal position through the action of a counterweight (8), and becomes ready to receive the next cargo vehicle (9), which will pass on it. Thus, through the constant movement of heavy-duty vehicles on the movable platform that will be connected to a hydraulic or pneumatic pressurising system, it will be possible to obtain the mentioned electric power.
Description
"ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION SYSTEM", the object of this patent request is a practical and innovative electric power collecting and generating system, which pertains to the area of electricity generating alternatives, more precisely for use in highways or roads. It has been given an original constructional layout with a view to providing it with improved utilisation and performance standards in comparison to other systems generally available in the market.
Every day, the technological development furnishes new solutions that ensure comfort, safety, health, communication, and data processing, education etc. Practically every step of the modern individual depends on an electroelectronic apparatus.
At the factories, homes, public entities, hospitals or at any firm, it is the electronic equipment that ensures the normal and necessary operations. However, the generation of electric power in relation to the level of demand is diminishing with each passing day.
No matter how sizeable the investments may be, the offer will always be smaller than the demand.
An hydroelectric plant in addition to provoking environmental devastation, requires substantial investments, takes a considerable amount of time to be built, is dependent upon the volume of rainfall, which is an absolutely unpredictable and essential factor, and it is always situated at a great distance from the locations where the electricity will be consumed. For the electric power generated at such plants to be received at the consumption centres, transmission lines have to be used.
Transmission lines are another problem as in addition to the hazards that they represent, the high cost of assembly and maintenance, the area of land occupied, they also are inefficient, as from the point where power is generated to the distribution point over 30% of the electric power generated is lost, not to mention the negative environmental impact that the gigantic transmission towers represent.
Thermoelectric plants are responsible for even greater problems, as among other factors, they burn highly expensive fuel, constitute a constant explosion risk and pollute the environment with a considerable emission of polluting gases.
Nuclear plants are really the alternative that would show greater efficiency, were it not for the high cost involved, the time required for its construction and the high risk of contamination by radiation or even an explosion, as a nuclear plant is nothing less than a controlled atomic bomb, until somebody loses the control, that is not to mention the radioactive residues which nobody knows what to do with them.
The nuclear plant is a more modern solution, but it has shown itself to be so dangerous that after accidents were reported at various units, many such units are being deactivated.
The essential factor for the generation of electric power is "movement".
Movement that is sufficiently strong to provoke the rotation of a generator to produce the electric power. That movement can be aerodynamic, the movement of air that activates the aeolic generators that are a good alternative for some homes, but the
manufacture of such equipment is limited, and the regions that adopt this type of solution are generally the rural regions.
All the mentioned alternatives utilise some power source for the generation of power, however, all these forces are either non-renewable or very far from being controlled by men.
In view of the foregoing, men live under the threat of power shortages, rationings, change of time schedules and habits, high tariff rates and many other inconveniences caused by the shortage of electric power. To solve this, which is perhaps the greatest problem of our times, after thorough studies and intense research, a revolutionary system has been developed for the generation of electric power.
We looked for alternatives capable of definitively solving the shortage of electric power at a very low cost, which would not have any environmental impact, that could be installed in or near the great consumption centres, which would not represent any risks to the population and would generate electric power in great quantity, that its power source would increase in the same proportion as the requirements of the region, and that such a source would involve a cost of zero.
In the constant search for solutions for all these needs, one of the most elementary and ancient laws of physics, which governs harmoniously the whole universe, provided the answer that was needed to furnish a power generating force, viz.: gravity.
The gravitational attraction upon a Mass volume would provide the force that once transformed into movement would activate the electric power generators.
Based on those analyses, one will reach the conclusion that the bigger the population centre and the more developed the region, the larger the concentration of cargo vehicles will be.
In view of the foregoing, the system was developed as follows: Such as water naturally flows in a riverbed on its way to the sea or a lower point, vehicles, trucks buses etc. also run on highways, roads etc. in the direction to the great centres.
In the case of flowing water, a dam holds the water and directs it to channels, which originate the spinning of turbines and these actuate the generator, the water then follows on its normal course.
In the system being proposed for the generation of electricity, the vehicles that are proceeding to or that already are in the great centres, are naturally "dammed up' by the gigantic traffic jams. Therefore, all that is required is to divert them to channels and when those vehicles pass on the platform that will be installed on the roadbed, their weight will exert pressure on the platform, which is no more than a hydraulic pump of large dimensions. The gravitational force exerted on the vehicle, for instance a truck, which when loaded weighs approximately 50,000 kilos, upon passing on the platform will pump the
hydraulic fluid to a hydraulic motor, which being connected to the generator will actuate it and thus the electric power will be generated.
The mentioned system can be installed at a tollgate, for instance, where the "channel" already exists, and when the vehicle stops for the motorist for effect the payment, its weight on the platform will be causing the hydraulic fluid to be pumped and thus actuating the generators.
The system is very simple and practical, it can be installed at any point where there is a concentration of vehicles, especially heavy vehicles.
The system being presented consists in making use of the weight and movement of the vehicles that circulate on the highways or roads and transform that into power for actuating the electric power generators, by means of a hydraulic or mechanical system capable of using the gravitational force exerted on the vehicles and of transforming it into power to drive the electric power generators.
The mentioned plant can be installed at any point where there is a concentration of vehicles, such as highways (tollgates), avenues, roads etc., which will transform the gravitational force into force to actuate the electric power generators in a clean, economical, safe and fast manner, which will not be aggressive to the environment. Moreover, the energy will be generated at its place of consumption and therefore transmission lines will not be required, and the consequent losses resulting from the distance that the electricity would have to travel are also avoided.
The larger the region, the larger will be the flow of traffic and consequently the generation of electric power will be greater and it will attend the needs of the population, as that heretofore unexplored power source flows in all directions, coming and going the whole time.
To give a faint idea of what this represents, the installation of the proposed system at strategical points of a highway with a traffic flow such as the Presidente Dutra highway, would be sufficient for the generation of electric power to reach levels greater than those of a large power plant. Moreover, the energy would not be required to travel thousands of kilometres before reaching the southeast region, for instance, and thus be partially lost.
Therefore, the electric power generation system hereby being reivindicated consists of the use of the gravitational force exerted on the mass of the vehicles that travel on the roads, by means of collecting centres strategically installed alongside the highways and roads, which would transform that force into energy that could be hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical or kinetic. That energy would then be used to actuate the electric power generators in a clean, cheap, practical and efficient manner. Thus, the electric power shortage would be quickly solved and the countries would have the opportunity of benefiting from continued and planned growth, and also avoid unemployment and the spectre of electric power shortage.
Therefore, this patent request refers to a collecting system that has been especially designed and developed to achieve
considerable practicality and brings great advantages, both with regard to its utilisation and implantation.
It is also the objective of this request to present an electric power generation system with low costs for industrial feasibility, but having robust features as well as meeting safety and practical use requirements, thus providing the consumer public with an additional option to the conventional alternatives for the generation of electric power.
It was thinking about the possibility of obtaining an electric power generation source that would not pollute nor degrade the environment that after innumerable studies and research, the inventor, who belongs to this sphere of activity, created and developed the collecting system presented in this patent request. He conceived an electric power generation source whose construction project takes into account not only mechanical and functional features, but also its shape, arrangement and location of its parts and components. This has resulted in increased efficiency without any additional onus.
This patent has thus been designed with the objective of providing an electric power generation source having as small a number of parts as possible of convenient configuration and installation that will allow the collecting system to perform its function with incomparable efficiency and versatility, but avoiding the mentioned inconveniences.
In this patent request, we present a practical and innovative electric power generation source model, having all the practical and functional features, designed and developed in
accordance with the most modern techniques, which results in a varied utilisation, i.e., ranging from highways to tollgates as well as road weighbridge points.
This innovative system enables us to achieve an excellent level of functionality, and an electric power generation source model of considerable durability. It was created chiefly to substitute the hydroelectric, thermoelectric and nuclear power plants.
The configuration of the electric power generation system, presented in this patent request, in its innovative constructional form, consists of a platform at the level of the roadbed, which upon receiving a pressure equivalent to a loaded truck will actuate a hydraulic compression fluid system, which in turn will drive a hydraulic motor connected to an electric generator.
As it can be perceived, the constructional characteristics of the electric power generation system in question are extremely simple, therefore its feasibility poses no problems, and the results are excellent both from a functional and practicality standpoint.
Its innovative constructional characteristics distinguish it from any of the known similar models. Having been conceived with an innovative design, it results in a harmonious assembly of a very peculiar aspect, and stands out for its versatility and ease of utilisation.
For a better understanding and comprehension of what the object of this patent request, i.e.:- "ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION SYSTEM", involves, we present illustrative drawings which show:
DRAWING 1 - Shows a sideview of the system presented herein in its first stage of operation.
DRAWING 2 - Shows a sideview of the system presented herein in its second stage of operation.
DRAWING 3 - Shows a sideview of the motor that is responsible for the generation of electric power.
In accordance with what the aforementioned drawings illustrate, the "ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION SYSTEM", presented herein is essentially characterised by consisting of a movable platform (1) installed at the level of the roadbed (2) which upon receiving a gravitational pressure equivalent to a loaded truck (3) will actuate a mechanical linkage system (4) that in turn will actuate a hydraulic compression fluid system (5), that will be responsible for driving a hydraulic motor (6) connected to an electric generator (7). Once the mentioned truck (3) passes on the apparatus, the operation of the same is started. It reverts to its normal position through the action of a counterweight (8), and becomes ready to receive the next cargo vehicle (9) that will pass on it.
Thus, through the constant movement of heavy-duty vehicles on the movable platform that will be connected to a hydraulic or pneumatic pressurising system, it will be possible to obtain the mentioned electric power. This descriptive report covers a new concept of an electric power generation system. As evidenced by the analysis performed and the drawings presented, it possesses innumerable different characteristics when compared to the existing conventional systems that are available in the consumer market. Additionally its constructional and functional characteristics are completely different from those existing in the current state-of-the-art.
