  • the base station receives a new SMS cell broadcast message.
  • it determines whether it is in one of the cells to which the message is to be broadcast. If the answer is no, the procedure passes to step 43, and the message is discarded. If at step 42 it is determined that the cell is one to which the message is to be broadcast, the procedure passes to step 44, and the message is sent over the air interface to the active mobile stations in that cell at that time. Thus, in this case, only one message still passes through the BSC, thereby freeing BSC resources for other purposes. However, the total number of SMS cell broadcast messages sent to the base transceiver stations is increased, because messages are sent unnecessarily to some base stations.

Abstract

Selon la présente invention, un réseau de télécommunications radiocellulaire fait appel à des messages de multidiffusion pour transmettre des messages de diffusion de cellules de service de messages courts sur le réseau. Ainsi, un message de multidiffusion est envoyé d'un contrôleur de station de base à un groupe de stations de base adressées, qui répond par transmission de messages de diffusion de cellules de service de messages courts sur l'interface radio. Le groupe de multidiffusion destiné à recevoir des demandes de page peut comprendre toutes les stations de base, auquel cas les stations de base doivent pouvoir déterminer si elles sont spécifiquement adressées et doivent répondre par transmission d'un message de diffusion de cellules de service de messages courts.
