DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the apparatus for collecting pet excrement of the present invention can be adapted for use for other equivalent applications beyond that specifically described below.
In the embodiment of the present invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the apparatus for collecting pet excrement comprises excretion portion 20 and a tissue supply portion 30 (not shown in Figs. 1 & 2, as it is under lid 40). Excretion portion 20 may be isolated from the outside by closing lid 50, as shown in Fig. 2.
An excretion box 10 is received in excretion portion 20. Excretion box 10 has a space defined by front, back, left side, right side and bottom walls. A pet can be accommodated in the space. Handle 12 extends from the outer surface of the sidewall of excretion box 10.
First through holes 16 are formed on the sidewalls of excretion box 10. Second through holes 26 are formed on sidewalls of excretion portion 20 at locations that match with first through holes 16 of excretion box 10 when excretion box 10 is received in excretion portion 20. Recesses 22 are formed on the upper portions of both sidewalls of excretion portion 20, into which handles 12 of excretion box 10 are inserted to prevent displacement of excretion box 10 in excretion portion 20.
Referring to Fig. 3, tissue supply portion 30 is located behind excretion portion 20, and has wall 23 in common with excretion portion 20. Tissue supply portion 30 is adapted to hold a tissue roll 32. Preferably, tissue such as kitchen paper towels that does not tear easily and has good water absorption, is used. A kitchen paper towel is also advantageous as it can be disposed into a toilet bowl can be cleared with water without causing pipe clogging problems. Wall 23, which is interposed between tissue supply portion 30 and excretion portion 20, is provided with a slit 24 that provides a passage for the tissue from tissue supply portion 30 to excretion portion 20. Slit 24 is formed higher than the top of the back wall of excretion box 10 in excretion portion 20 so that the back wall of excretion box 10 does not block slit 24. Unrolled tissue is passed through slit 24 and is made to accumulate in folds on the bottom of excretion box 10 in an appropriate amount to be used for collection and disposal of the excrement. More preferably, in order to make the unrolling of the tissue roll easy and smooth by preventing contact between the tissue roll and the bottom of tissue supply portion 30, tissue supply portion 30 may have tissue roll holding means (not shown) on the side walls thereof. The tissue roll holding means supports the tissue roll so that it dose not contact the bottom or any of the walls of tissue supply portion 30 and can be easily rotated and unrolled without friction between the tissue and the bottom of tissue supply portion 30.
Lid 40 is provided at the top of tissue supply portion 30. Lid 40 rotates about hinges 42 which are also used for the rotation of lid 50 of excretion portion 20. It is also possible to provide separate hinges for the two lids. Lids 40 and 50 are shown hinged onto the top portion of wall 23 by hinge 42 in the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 through 5. It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that various alternate coverings and connections are possible and may be used to close off tissue supply portion 30 and excretion portion 20.
The tissue placed on the bottom of excretion box 10 can be secured by tissue securing means 60. Tissue securing means 60 has one or more pins 62 that pass through first and second through holes 16, 26 and protruded into excretion box 10. Pins 62 secure the accumulated folds of tissue on the bottom of excretion box 10. Although this embodiment is illustrated with through holes 16 and 26, and pins 62, which provide the securing of the tissue, it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that various alternate securing means may be used to prevent accumulated folds of tissue from shifting within the bottom of excretion box 10.
Supports 70 may be attached to each corner under the bottom of the apparatus, which are made of friction material such as plastics, rubber or the like, so that supports 70 prevent the apparatus from moving on the floor with the pet's entering and exiting actions or the pet's movement in excretion box 10.
A method for using the apparatus is described with reference to Figs. 3 and 4. After installation of a tissue roll into tissue supply portion 40, the tissue is unrolled by hand. The front end of the tissue is pulled to pass through slit 24 on wall 23 and enter into excretion portion 20. The tissue is accumulated in folds on the bottom of excretion box 10 to appropriate amount to dispose of the excrement. The accumulated folds of tissue are secured under pins 62 of tissue securing means 60 which are protruded into excretion box 10 so that the drifting of the accumulated folds of tissue by the pet's entering and exiting actions or the pet's movement in excretion box 10, is prevented. With excretion portion lid 50 in the opened position, the apparatus is ready to be used by a pet. A pet trained to excrete in excretion box 10, enters excretion box 10 and excretes on the accumulated folds of tissue. After excretion by the pet, the owner picks up the tissue containing the excrement, disposes it and prepares for the next excretion of the pet without the need to clean the apparatus with water after each excretion by the pet. As described above, according to the present invention, the tissue is contained in the apparatus and the owner need not bring tissue from elsewhere each time when the apparatus is prepared for next use. Therefore, the apparatus can be immediately and conveniently reset for collecting pet excrements.
If the apparatus needs to be cleaned because the bottom of the excretion portion is stained with excrement or urine, it can be easily washed by pulling out excretion box 10 from excretion portion 20 and cleaning excretion box 10 with water.
Prior art devices have no means for covering the space for collecting excrements... Thus such devices cause unpleasant open sights of feces or urine. The feces or urine also emit bad odors. According to the present invention, such problems are resolved because the excretion portion may be isolated by closing lid 50, and excrement or urine need not be seen from the outside. Further, bad odor is confined within the excretion portion and sanitary conditions are maintained.
In another embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus is provided similar to the apparatus of the above embodiment but without an excretion box. That is, folds of tissues are placed directly on the bottom of the excretion portion. It is to be understood that one skilled in the art will recognize that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than being limited by the foregoing description, and all modifications and adaptations are considered within the spirit of the invention.
