Abstract

An optic device including an integrated device including an optical waveguide; an electrically controllable modulating structure for modifying the waveguide to modulate light propagated within the waveguide, the modulating structure being of the type whose operation results in the dissipation of heat within the integrated device; and an electrically controllable temperature control structure operatively connected to the modulating structure but isolated from the waveguide, such that the temperature control structure can be operated to control the temperature of the integrated device in response to the operation of the modulating structure without it electrically affecting the waveguide.
