Definitions
- This invention relates to improvements in fishing reels for casting.
- the fishing reel automatic line release clip is a new automated casting mechanism located on the side of the rotor, replacing the conventional method of casting.
- the conventional method of casting is an exact procedure.
- the fisherman secures the line under one of his fingers, then propels the fishing rod sending the hook, line and sinker through the air into a chosen direction.
- the tension created along the line by the weight of the sinker while casting is secured and controlled by his finger.
- the fishing reel automatic line release clip is a mechanism that is used to engage the line when the bail is opened. This process would normally be performed by securing the line with a finger before opening the bail.
- the fishing reel automatic line release clip may be adapted into the front end of the spool. In this case it would be identified as the spool line release clip.
- the fisherman depresses the preset tension dial at the front of the spool.
- the release clip is then re-positioned forward to the start of its rotating cycle where it is protruding past the outside diameter of the spool. In this position the release clip engages the line.
- the hook line and sinker are now hanging off the fishing rod and restrained by the release clip.
- the tension on the fishing line creates a load against the release clip.
- the degree of resistance on the release clip is variable and fully adjustable by tnrning the preset tension dial to a norninated setting.
- the setting will be dependent on the casting conditions. This enables the release clip to retain the line at a pre-dete ⁇ nined setting before it is triggered. Once triggered the release clip instantly opens and moves back into the spool housing releasing the line off the spool.
- Figure- 1, 2, 3 & 4 show one example of the fishing reel automatic line release clip according to this invention.
- Figure-1 shows the application of the automatic line release clip mechanism triggered, enabling the release clip to fully open and release the line off the spool.
- Figure-2 shows the application of the automatic line release clip in the fully closed position at the start of its cycle.
- the release clip closes simultaneously onto the line while opening out the bail, rotating in the same direction and pivoting about the same centerline. It then engages the fishing line before it is released off the line roller attached to the arm lever.
- Figure-3 shows the application of the automatic line release clip in the fully open position. After the release clip has been triggered, it is activated, instantly enabling it to fully open and retract, rotating in the opposite direction towards the end of it's cycle in order to release the line off the spool.
- Figure 4 shows a front view.
- the release clip mechanism comprises of a moulded plastic or metal release clip (2) with a hooked end (3) to engage and retain the fishing line (1).
- the release clip (2) is pivotally mounted and spring loaded inside the cEp housing (4).
- the plastic or metal clip housing (4) is located on the outside of the rotor (9).
- the release clip (2) closes simultaneously onto the fishing line, rotating in the same direction as the bail (8) and pivots about the same centerline. It then engages the line (1) before it is released off the line roller (7) attached to the arm lever (6). As the fisherman is casting or spinning using a jacking motion, the tension on the line becomes greater and greater.
- the release clip (2) is securing the line (1) at a predetermined setting and at this point it can go no fiirther due to increased forces against it. This position on the release clip (2) is identified as the dead return point.
- the fishing line automatic release clip mechanism is not restricted to the form of spring loaded clip or electronic triggers. The use of any other suitable arrangement in order to set a pre-determined degree of resistance on the release clip by turning the tension dial or any other arrangement which allows the release clip to be restrained and then released can be used.
- the fishing line automatic release clip mechanism has a second mode of operation used by the fisherman for particular casting conditions.
- the tension on the line (1) becomes greater and greater.
- the pre-determined degree of resistance (13) applied on the release clip (2) is triggered, instantly enabling the release clip (2) to fully open and retract, rotating in the opposite direction towards the end of its cycle in order to release the line (1) off the spool (10).
- the degree of resistance on release clip (2) can be varied by turning the tension dial
