Abstract

An authoring platform and corresponding system and method are described that allow an author to create synchronized multimedia presentations. The authoring platform comprises a first display window (205) that displays a primary multimedia file, a second display window (210) that displays a secondary multimedia file, and a presentation indices window (230) that synchronizes the secondary multimedia file to the primary multimedia file by creating at least one index. An index is created by identifying a location in the primary multimedia file, such as a time location or frame number, and providing a secondary multimedia file that is displayed when the index is crossed. The index may contain other data that controls the characteristics of the display or provide text messaging (215) that is displayed when the index is crossed. Thus, a synchronized multimedia presentation may be created that operates independent of a presenter.
