Definitions
- the invention relates to a plug connection between a male plug of an electrode and a female plug of a wire, said electrode having a central part for attachment to a patient and a plug connection part which is arranged in extension of the central part by means of a transition member, and in which the male plug is secured.
- the invention moreover relates to a wire connection and a measuring setup.
- AEP Auditory Evoked Potentials
- An apparatus for recording AEP is known from the international application no. PCT. DK00/00636.
- Apparatuses for measuring AEP receive signals from skin electrodes, e.g. skin electrodes of the type described in WO 86/03365. Such electrodes have a male plug which is adapted to be coupled to a female plug that is connected to one end of a wire. The other end of the wire is connected via a plug to the AEP apparatus.
- skin electrodes e.g. skin electrodes of the type described in WO 86/03365.
- Such electrodes have a male plug which is adapted to be coupled to a female plug that is connected to one end of a wire. The other end of the wire is connected via a plug to the AEP apparatus.
- an object of the invention is to provide a plug connection between a male plug of an electrode and a female plug of a wire which ensures a stable connection minimizing the risk of mechanical impacts.
- the object of the invention is achieved by a plug connection of the type de- fined in the introductory portion of claim 1 , which is characterized in that the female plug is formed with an encapsulation dimensioned such that the contact parts of the male and female plugs can only be connected to each other when the entire male plug of the electrode is inserted into the encapsulation.
- a particularly expedient way of providing the encapsulation is, as stated in claim 2, that it is formed as a housing having a bottom plate with a side wall protruding from it.
- the side wall is formed with two slots, one slot of which is adapted to receive a tensile relief on the wire, and the other slot is adapted to receive the transition member.
- the encapsulation is formed as an integrated part of the wire with tensile relief and its connected female plug, which, in addition to an advantageous manufacturing method, ensures that only electrodes adapted precisely to the female plug of the electrode concerned can be used.
- the invention also relates to a wire connection and a measuring setup.
- fig. 1 shows a measuring setup with the plug connection according to the invention
- fig. 2 shows a plug connection with the plug connection parts according to the invention disassembled
- fig. 3 shows a cross-section of the plug connection according to the invention in an assembled state.
- Fig. 1 shows a measuring setup in its entirety comprising a measuring apparatus 1 which is an apparatus for measuring AEP (Auditory Evoked Po- tentials) in the example shown.
- a wire 2 is connected via a plug 3 to the apparatus, said wire 2 being connected to the outlet of a plug distributor 4 which, as shown, has four inlets and outlets 5, 8, an outlet 8 being connected to a headphone 6 via a plug 7.
- the three other inlets 5 are connected to skin electrodes 9 via wires 10.
- the plug distributor includes a wire 2 which connects the AEP apparatus to the plug distributor
- the measuring setup operates as follows:
- the electrodes 9 applied to the patient will record AEP signals from the patient, and these signals are transferred to the apparatus 1 which is adapted to process the signals and to display a numeral value in the form of an index on a display arranged on the apparatus, said index being indicative of the anaesthetized state of the patient.
- the patient's state of anaesthesia may be monitored currently (in real time) so as to ensure that the patient cannot perceive in any way by any senses what is going on around him.
- AEP monitoring has become ever more popular.
- Such an apparatus is extremely sensitive to noise and requires correctly adapted cables, in particular between the electrodes and the ap- paratus 1.
- FIG. 2 is a more detailed view of the electrode 9 with the male plug 13 and the female plug 11 with the wire 10 in a disassembled state. Also shown is an encapsulation 12 which is formed as a housing having a bottom 20 and a cylindrical side wall 21 protruding from the bottom 20. The side wall 21 is formed with slots 18 and 19.
- the encapsulation 12 is dimensioned to enclose the female plug 11 such that it engages the inner face of the bottom 20, and such that the slot 18 is adapted to the tensile relief 23 of the wire 10.
- the female plug 11 with mounted housing 12 When the female plug 11 with mounted housing 12 is to contactably engage the male plug 13 of the electrode 15, the female plug 11 with encapsulation 12 is passed downwards over the electrode and a transition member 22 which is arranged in the electrode, and which fits the slot 19 in the side wall 21 , said slot 19 being dimensioned such that it can receive the transition member 22.
- the transition member 22 connects the contact area of the electrode 9 with male plug 13 to the central part 15 of the electrode. This ensures a tight and mechanically safe connection between the male plug 13 and the female plug 14.
- fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the parts of fig. 2 assembled with the slot 18 of the encapsulation 12 which receives the tensile relief 23.
- the electrode is provided with a release sheet 17 which may be torn off at a free part 25 of the release sheet 17 shortly before the electrode is applied to the patient.
- the encapsulation 12 may be formed as a moulded part of the plug 11.
- transition part 22 of the electrode 15 may have other shapes than the ones shown, provided that the shape can be received in the encapsulation 12.
- the plug of the electrode may be formed as a female plug that fits a male plug in the plug 11.
