Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for the treatment of material containing carbon in a vertical shaft kiln. According to the invention, the material to be treated descends vertically, is subjected to various treatments and is subsequently withdrawn at the lower end of the kiln. The material descending in the chamber is subjected to a plurality of continuous, successive temperature and time-based treatment stages, until the treatment of said material is complete. The material is then cooled and finally withdrawn.
