Abstract

A paving or floor tile of stone, concrete or a ceramic material and a paving or floor surface made of such tiles. On the top surfaces of the tiles (1) are made grooves (2), in which are fitted translucent tubes (3). In adjacent and/or successive tiles (1), thetubes (3) match to form extensions of each other, and in the continuous tube thus formed is inserted an optical fibre cable (4) with clearance.

Description

A paving or floor tile of stone, concrete or a ceramic material and a paving or floor surface made of such tiles
The invention relates to a paving or floor tile of stone, concrete or a ceramic material.
The invention also relates to a paving or floor surface made of paving or floor tiles of stone, concrete or a ceramic material.
From the patent publication JP7220506 is known a concrete structure made on site, in a groove of which is embedded an optical cable, and which groove is filled with transparent acrylic resin.
The aim of the invention is to provide a paving or floor surface which can be made of prefabricated units, the surface being visually vivified by means of a luminous effect, which at the same time brings a feeling of security when moving in the dark. Another aim of the invention is to provide a prefabricated unit suitable for producing this type of paving or floor surface.
This aim is achieved by means of the invention, on the basis of the characteristics disclosed in the appended claims 1 and 3. The dependent claims describe preferred embodiments of the invention.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the following, with refer- ence to the accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1 shows a paving or floor surface according to the invention from above;
Figures 2 and 3 show a paving or floor tile used in the invention according to one embodiment of the invention, as a perspective view from above; and Figure 4 shows a section of the edge zone of a paving or floor surface according to the invention.
As shown in Figures 1 to 3, on the top surfaces of the tiles 1 are made groo- ves 2, which match to form extensions of each other in adjacent and/or successive tiles. In the continuous groove 2 thus formed is inserted an optical fibre cable 4. In the groove 2 of each tile is fitted a transparent acrylic tube, or other plastic tube having an inner diameter of, for example, 20 mm, over which is cast clear glass fibre resin. The resin glues the acrylic tube 3 and itself to the tile 1, at the same time acting as a hard surface. The optical fibre cable 4 can be passed inside the acrylic tube 3. In adjacent tiles, the tubes 3 are extensions of each other. The thickness of the optical fibre cable is, for example, 10-15 mm. The dimensional difference compared with the inner diameter of the acrylic tube 3 allows the tiles 1 to move slightly without breaking the cable 4. The clearance formed by this dimensional difference also makes it possible to pass the optical fibre cable 4 into the continuous tube formed by the tubes 3 of adjacent tiles 1.
The tiles 1 may be of stone, such as grey granite or even marble. In such a case, the groove 2 must be made by cutting. The groove may be, for example, a 25 mm deep U-shaped groove, that may be straight or in a curved shape. The groove begins at a 90° angle from the middle of a shorter side of a tile and ends at a 45° angle on a longer side, at % of its length. The tiles 1 may be of two different designs, one with a groove turning to the right and the other with a groove turning to the left. Many other groove designs and ratios between the sides of the tile may naturally also come into question. If the distance for passing the cable is long, it is advantageous to use straight grooves, which extend between the opposite short sides of the tile.
The tile 1 may also be a brick-type prefabricated unit of concrete or a ceramic material, in which case the groove 2 can be made already at the casting stage of the tile or prefabricated unit. Figure 4 shows how the end of an optical fibre cable 4 protruding from the outermost tile 1 in a paving or floor surface is connected to a light projector 5. In the projector can be used a multiple-part colour disc, whereby light lines of different colours can be produced on the paving or floor surface. To one projector 5 may be connected several (e.g. about ten) optical cables 4. At the end of each optical cable line may be fitted a terminal cover with a reflector. The light from the optical cable 4 suffices up to 15 m. As basic stone in a paving or floor surface can be used otherwise similar stone tiles but without a light groove. Under the paving or floor surface relating to the in- vention can be fitted thermal cabling, in which case in outdoor use, the surface will remain unfrozen in wintertime and in indoor use it gives a warm floor surface.
Due to the prefabricated unit construction, anyone can buy ready-made units and construct a paving or floor surface with an illuminated design.

Claims

A paving or floor surface as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that in the groove (2) of the tile (1) is fitted an acrylic or plastic tube (3), over which is cast clear resin, and that the optical fibre cable (4) can be passed inside the acrylic or plastic tube (3), the inner diameter of which is substantially greater than the diameter of the optical fibre cable.
3. A paving or floor surface as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that an individual tile (1) has a straight or a curved groove (2), one end of which ends on the end edge of the tile (1), and the other end ends on the opposite end edge or side edge of the tile (1).
4. A paving or floor tile of stone, concrete or a ceramic material, characterised in that on the top surface of the tile is made a groove (2), in which is fitted a translucent tube (3) for an optical fibre cable (4), and that the ends of the tube (3) end on the edges of the tile (1) in such a way that by placing tiles next to each other, the tubes (3) can be positioned as continuances of each other.
