DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Hereinafter, a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
As shown in FIG. 1 , according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the proxy payment system for charges for wireless communication includes: a wireless communication user and a credit card user 10; a member store 20 of a credit card company that provides goods or services by being paid by a credit card; a credit card company server 100 that provides credit card services for a credit card user; a wireless communication charge management server 300 of a wireless communication company that provides a wireless communication service; and a proxy payment server 200 for paying a wireless communication charge by proxy using credit card transaction information input from the credit card company server 20.
It is preferable that the wireless communication user is identical to the credit card user. However, it is also possible for the wireless communication user to use credit card information of another person, that is, it is possible to pay the wireless communication charge using another person's credit card information after acquiring the other person's approval.
The member store 20 of the credit card company can be any one of all member stores of the credit card company. However, it is preferable that
the member store 20 is one of all member stores that make a special contract for proxy payment services for wireless communication charges according to the present invention.
A method for providing a proxy payment service for wireless communication charges employing the above-stated system will be explained hereinafter.
First, if the wireless communication user 10 purchases goods or services at the member store 20 and pays for the goods or services with his credit card, the member store 20 asks for approval for a credit card payment from the credit card company server 100, and during this course, the credit card transaction information is sent to the credit card company server 100.
Then the credit card company server 100 pays for the credit card transaction, and adds the amount of the transaction to the account of the credit card user 10 for payment within a predetermined time period, and the credit card user then pays.
The proxy payment server 200 receives the credit card transaction information from the credit card company server 100. It is preferable that the credit card transaction information includes information on the member store that has the special contract with the credit card company. The proxy payment server 200 stores the received credit card transaction information in a database 240 provided in the proxy payment server 200. Then, the proxy payment server 200 determines if conditions for proxy payment exist, and if so, the proxy payment server 200 sends a signal for tendering a proxy payment for the wireless communication charges of the
wireless communication user to the wireless communication charge management server 300.
The wireless communication charge management server 300 subtracts an amount of money being indicated in the proxy payment signal from an actual amount of the wireless communication charges, and sends a result of the subtraction to the proxy payment server 200.
The proxy payment server 200 then sends the result of the proxy payment to the wireless communication user 10.
As stated above, the wireless communication charge management server 300 tenders a payment for a portion of the wireless communication charges and subtracts the proxy payment amount from the total wireless communication charges. Therefore, the wireless communication user 10 is responsible for the subtracted charge, and if the total charge has been paid by proxy, the wireless communication user 10 need not pay for wireless communication.
Fig. 2 shows a block diagram of the proxy payment system, which includes the proxy payment server 200 according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
The system includes a member store terminal 50 that is provided in the member store, the credit card company server 100 that is connected to the member store terminal 50 via a network, the wireless communication charge management server 300 managing wireless communication charges, and the proxy payment server 200 that is connected to the credit company server 100 via a first network and is connected to the wireless
communication charge management server 300 via a second network.
The member store terminal 50 and the credit card company server 100 can be realized by general structures.
It is preferable that the credit card company server 100 includes a member store database 150 storing information on the member stores that have made the special contract regarding the proxy payment of the wireless communication charges. Preferably, the member store database 150 includes information for discriminating the member store terminal 50.
The wireless communication charge management server 300 can be realized by a general structure for processing data for wireless communication use. The wireless communication charge management server 300 includes a wireless communication charge database 350, which includes wireless communication identification number information and wireless communication charge information. The proxy payment server 200 includes a first network interface 210 communicating data through the first network, a second network interface 220 communicating data through the second network, a database 240, a processor 230 for managing data communicated through the first and second network interfaces 210 and 220, and data stored in the database 240. The database 240 comprises a user information database 250, a credit card transaction information database 260 for storing credit card transaction information of the credit card user, and a proxy payment result database 270 for storing the result of the proxy payment of the wireless communication charge. The databases can be realized by a magnetic tape, a
hard-disk, a CD-ROM (Compact Disk - Read Only Memory), a ROM (Read Only Memory), a RAM (Random Access Memory), etc.
The user information database 250 includes user discrimination information (hereinafter referred to as a user identifier) for discriminating the user, a wireless communication identification number of the user, credit card information that is used for proxy payment of the wireless communication charges, and user information such as a user name and an address of the user.
The credit card transaction information database 260 includes the user identifier, credit card transaction information of the user such as a transaction time, an amount of the credit card transaction, and the member store where the user purchases goods or services, as well as an accumulated amount of credit card transactions.
The proxy payment result database 270 includes the user identifier, a proxy payment date and a total amount of the proxy payment; and the first and second networks can be realized as various kinds of computer networks such as the Internet, a public network, and a private network.
The first and second network interfaces 210 and 220 are shown in different networks to distinguish them from each other. However, if the first and second networks are the same network, the first and second network interfaces 210 and 220 can be realized as a single network interface.
The processor 230 performs the method for providing the proxy payment service for wireless communication charges by managing data communicated through the first and second network interfaces 210 and 220
and data stored in the database 240, and the processor 230 can be realized by a microprocessor that is executed by a computer program.
Fig. 3 is a flowchart showing the method for providing the proxy payment service of the wireless communication charges according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
At first, if the credit card user 10 purchases goods or services at the member store 20 using his credit card, the credit card company server 100 receives the credit card transaction information from the member store terminal 50 in step S310. The credit card company server 100 then determines if the member store terminal 50 is a store that has the special contract with the credit card company for the proxy payment of the wireless communication charges in step S315.
The determination of the step S315 can be made by searching a member store database 150.
If the determination is in the affirmative in step S315, the credit card company server 100 sends the credit card transaction information to the proxy payment server 200 in step S320.
The credit card transaction information includes credit card identification information, a time of the credit card transaction, and an amount of the credit card transaction, and preferably, the credit card transaction information further includes the member store identification information. The credit card identification information includes arbitrary information to identify the used credit card account, such as a credit card number.
The processor 230 of the proxy payment server 200 receives the credit card transaction information through the first network interface 210 in step S325, then extracts the corresponding user identifier from the user information database 250 and updates the credit card transaction information database 260 in step S330.
To update the credit card transaction information database means to store an amount of the credit card transaction, the time of the credit card transaction, and the calculated accumulated amount of credit card transactions. If the credit card transaction information includes the member store identification information in step S325, it is preferable that the credit card transaction information database 260 further includes the member store identification information.
After updating the credit card use information database 260, the processor 230 determines if the conditions for proxy payment exist in step S335.
The conditions for proxy payment include that a current date is a predetermined chosen date, or that the amount of the credit card transaction is larger than a predetermined amount. Preferably, the conditions for proxy payment include both that the current date is the predetermined date and the amount of the credit card transaction is at least the predetermined amount.
If it is determined that the conditions for proxy payment do not exist in step S335, the procedure ends, and if it is determined that the conditions exist, the processor 230 calculates an amount of the proxy payment for the user in step S340.
The calculation of the amount of the proxy payment can be performed in various manners on the basis of the accumulated amount of the credit card transactions. For example, the amount of the proxy payment can be calculated by multiplying the accumulated amount of the credit card transactions by a predetermined rate.
The processor 230 then sends a signal tendering a proxy payment including the wireless communication identification number of the user and the amount of the proxy payment, to the wireless communication charge management server 300 in step S345. The wireless communication charge management server 300 receives the proxy payment tendering signal in step S350, and then subtracts the amount of the proxy payment from the total wireless communication charge of the user in step S355. The wireless communication charge management server 300 then sends a signal corresponding to the result of the proxy payment to the proxy payment server 200 in step S360. The signal corresponding to the result of the proxy payment includes the wireless communication identification number of the user and the amount of the proxy payment.
The processor 230 of the proxy payment server 200 receives the result of the proxy payment through the second network interface in step
S365, and extracts the user identifier corresponding to the wireless communication identification number based on the received result of the proxy payment and updates the credit card transaction information database 260 and the proxy payment result database 270 in step S370.
The accumulated amount of the credit card transactions of the credit card transaction information database is updated with a value acquired by subtracting the accumulated amount of money corresponding to the proxy payment from the previous accumulated amount of the credit card transactions, and the proxy payment result database 270 is updated by recording the date of the proxy payment and the amount of the proxy payment.
The proxy payment server 200 then informs the user of the proxy payment for the wireless communication charge of the user in step S375, and the wireless communication charge management server 300 charges the user for the wireless communication charges that are now decreased by the proxy payment in step S380.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the step S375 of informing the user of the proxy payment can be performed by the wireless communication charge management server 300.
According to the present invention, as stated above, the wireless communication user can save on wireless, communication charges, and a use of the wireless communication can be increased. In particular, the wireless communication user can have the wireless communication charges paid without any action, simply by using the credit card. Also, because the credit card use information is stored in the proxy payment server, even when a wrong amount for a credit card transaction is charged because of errors in a credit card company computer system, the wrong tender can be easily detected.
