Description

Earphone wi th supporti ng band
The invention relates to an earphone/microphone, which consists of a supporting band extending over and behind the ear, to which an earphone by the auditory canal and a microphone extending forward from the ear are connected, and of an adjusting band remaining under the ear.
A drawback with all earphones/microphones known as such is that they do not fit all ears in a satisfactory way. The size and shape of human ears vary considerably. Usually, an eaφhone is a part extending into the auditory canal, in which case the earphone/microphone is intended either for the left or right ear. Because persons, who use an earphone/microphone, are used to wearing it in one ear, perhaps even because of hearing, both left- and right-hand earphones/microphones have to be manufactured from the point of view of manufacturing technique. Earphones/microphones have also been provided either with a plug for the wire or with wireless transmitter/receiver electronics. All these variations increase the manufacturing costs of earphones/microphones. The object of this invention is to remove the said disadvantages. It is characteristic of the earphone/microphone of the invention that the supporting band is detachably attached to the earphone/microphone part. Thus, the supporting band can work only as the supporting band for the earphone/microphone, or it can be changed to a supporting band, which contains electronics for a wireless transmitter/receiver.
It is characteristic of an embodiment of the invention that the adjusting band attached to the supporting band is made of flexible material and that it is adjustable by moving the end of the adjusting band in an aperture in the supporting band. Thus, the adjusting band works as a small adjustable loop under the ear, in which case the size of the earphone/microphone is adjustable in the direction of elevation in accordance with the size of the ear. Because the adjusting band is made of soft material, it also feels comfortable under the ear and does not cause any pressing or chafing forces.
Other embodiments of the invention have been disclosed in the other dependent protective claims of the protective claim array. The earphone/microphone is symmetrical in the vertical plane, so that manufacturing costs are saved, because there is no need to manufacture left-/right-hand earphones/microphones. The invention is next described by way of an example, referring to the enclosed drawing, which presents the earphone/microphone seen from the side.
The earphone/microphone comprises the supporting band 1 extending over and behind the ear, to which the earphone 2 by the auditory canal and the microphone 3 extending forward from the ear are connected. The adjusting band 4 remaining under the ear is fastened to the supporting band 1. The supporting band 1 is detachably attached to the earphone and microphone part 2, 3. The adjusting band 4 fastened to the supporting band 1 is made of flexible material, and it is adjustable by moving the end of the adjusting band in the aperture 5 in the supporting band 1. The earphone 2 is fastened in the lateral direction to the flexible support arm 6. The earphone/microphone unit is symmetrical in the vertical plane so that the aperture 7 of the earphone 2is located in the lower section of the earphone part, and the aperture 8 of the microphone 3 is located in the front section of the microphone part. The electronic unit of the earphone/microphone, such as the transmitter/receiver, is connected to the earphone/microphone via the wire 9. The electronic unit 10 of the earphone/microphone can also be located in the supporting band, and it is in wireless contact with its functional unit. The electronic unit is shown with a line of dots and dashes. The surfaces of the earphone/microphone touching the skin are manufactured of flexible, soft material, such as soft rubber.
