Abstract

A method of transmitting data packets in a packet-based communications system includes assigning respective communications links for data transfer between a master unit and first and second slave units. The link between the master unit and the second slave unit is monitored so that during periods of inactivity thereon, data packets can be transmitted between the master unit and the first slave unit over the second communications link.
