Abstract

A method of killing or controling the growth of Gram negative bacteria which comprises interrupting the branched chain amino acid biosynthesis pathway by either (a) applying to the Gram negative bacteria or to the environment thereof a chemical inhibitor of an enzyme active in said pathway or (b) downregulating expression of a gene which encodes an enzyme active in said pathway. The methods can be used in treatment or prophylaxis of bacterial infection.
