Since there is no synchronicity between two different systems, it is difficult for the base stations to specify a time for the measurement. However, some systems (eg FDD, TDD, TD-SCDMA) have the same frame length or a corresponding multiple, which keeps the time of measurement sufficiently constant for a long time in relation to a time system. Thus, after the first measurement of the other system or a complete time frame of the other radio system, by means of which a position of the object to be measured (for example radio channel) is known, the subscriber station can specify a minimum transmission gap by requesting a desired start and length of the measurement.

Description

Beschreibungdescription
In radio communication systems, information (for example voice, image information or other data) is transmitted with the aid of electromagnetic waves via a radio interface between the transmitting and receiving radio station (base station or subscriber station). The electromagnetic waves are emitted at carrier frequencies that lie in the frequency band provided for the respective system. For future mobile radio systems with CDMA or TD / CDMA transmission methods (CDMA Code Division Multiple Access, TD / CDMA Time Division CDMA) of the radio interface, for example the UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) or other 3rd generation systems Frequencies in the frequency band of approximately 2000 MHz are provided.
In known mobile radio systems there is the possibility that a base station or in the UMTS system the RRC (radio resource controller) of the RNC (radio network controller) assigned to the base station requests one or more subscriber stations (UE - user equipment) to carry out measurements. Important measurements are, for example, level measurements from neighboring radio cells or base stations in order to initiate a handover to this radio cell at a later point in time. Other applications for such measurements are, for example, position determination or paging functions. In principle, measurements are of course also possible within your own existing connection.
In the future, more and more mobile radio systems, navigation systems and other radio applications will coexist, and corresponding functionalities for using these systems will also be implemented jointly in a subscriber station the. This means that, for example, parameters of at least one further radio system must be measured from a radio system in order to either carry out a handover to this system or to use an application, such as navigation using the known GPS (Global Positioning Service) of the other system ,
It can happen that a current service of a radio system has to be set, interrupted or reconfigured, for example because a complete second receiver and / or transmitter structure cannot be used in parallel for the other radio system, or due to interference problems, for example, due to simultaneous transmission and reception in the same subscriber terminal causes this implementation is technically complex or not feasible.
If necessary, the setting or reconfiguration of a service must also be carried out for a large number of closely adjacent subscriber stations, for example within a radio cell, in order to reduce the interference caused. In this case, reconfiguration signaling is sent from the base station to the corresponding subscriber stations.
Known approaches according to the prior art are based on the fact that the base station sends a corresponding measurement job to the subscriber station (s) and thereby pauses or correspondingly configures the existing service. This configuration consists, for example, of time, code, frequency, modulation, transmission line, puncturing, etc. Here, changes may also be possible during a time slot. Any combinations and time-distributed patterns are also possible.
A corresponding application of this method is provided in the UMTS mobile radio system described above. In the continuously transmitted by a serving base station As part of the FDD mode (Frequency Division Duplex), transmission gaps are inserted in which the receiver of the subscriber station is given the opportunity to observe one or more neighboring radio systems. These adjacent radio systems can be, for example, radio cells or base stations of a UMTS mobile radio system that supports the TDD mode or of the known GSM mobile radio system. If necessary, the transmission device can also be generated to generate transmission gaps. The generation of transmission gaps in the inherently continuous data stream takes place using the so-called compressed mode. Data to be sent in the transmission gap is actually transmitted at a higher data rate before and after the transmission gap. This is done by changing the spreading factor and by briefly increasing the transmission power in order not to cause a disadvantageous increase in the error rate. Due to the higher transmission power, however, the compressed mode disadvantageously increases the interference in the respective radio cell, which can lead to a reduction in the capacity of the system.
During the transmission gap, the subscriber station first tries to synchronize itself with the frame structure of the neighboring radio system, since this is generally not synchronous with the system that is currently serving. For this purpose, for example, the time slot carrying a broadcast channel or synchronization channel. The broadcast channel is, for example, the so-called BCCH (Broadcast Control Channel) in the GSM mobile radio system, and in the TDD mode of the UMTS mobile radio system the P-CCPCH (Primary Co mon Control Physical Channel) carrying the BCH (Broadcast Control Channel). After the subscriber station has determined this channel, the content of this channel is generally evaluated over several time frames.

According to one embodiment, a starting point can be defined as the point in time, for example by specifying a specific time slot.
According to a further development of the invention, the time interval is adapted by a component of the first radio communication system in accordance with the parameter signaled by the subscriber station, the changed parameters of the time interval in turn being signaled to the subscriber station. In the UMTS mobile radio system described above, the parameters of the time interval are set by a central component, the RNC (Radio Network Controller).
Dabei zeigenAn embodiment of the invention is shown below with reference to figures. Show

Eine erste Basisstation NB1 (Node B) unterstützt einen FDD-Modus des UMTS-Mobilfunksystems und ist über eine FunknetzsteuerungComponents of two adjacent radio communication systems are shown by way of example in FIG. 1. A first base station NB1 (Node B) supports an FDD mode of the UMTS mobile radio system and is via a radio network controller
A second base station NB2 supports, for example, a TDD mode of the UMTS mobile radio system and is connected directly to an Internet-based network with other components of the mobile radio system. The base stations NB1 and NB2 each supply a radio cell ZI and Z2 with radio resources. A subscriber station UE (user equipment) is located, for example, in an overlap area of the radio cells ZI, Z2 of the two base stations NB1, NB2 and is currently connected to the first base station NB1. The subscriber station UE observes transmissions, for example of the broadcast channel BCH of the second base station NB2, at regular intervals or controlled by specific events and evaluates them. Depending on these evaluations in the subscriber station UE and the first base station NB1 or radio network controller RNC1, for example, a handover is initiated from the first base station NB1 to the second base station NB2.
The transmission in the FDD mode of the first radio communication system takes place continuously, a physical transmission channel being defined by a frequency and a connection-specific spreading code (CDMA code). If the subscriber station UE, which usually has only one receiving device, is to receive transmissions from the second base station NB2 on a different frequency, then the continuous transmission in the downward direction from the first base station NB1 to the subscriber station UE must be interrupted for a specific time interval , Such a transmission gap arises, for example, from the so-called compressed mode, i.e. Data actually to be transmitted in the transmission gap are transmitted at a higher data rate before and after the transmission gap, for which purpose the spreading factor has to be changed and the transmission power has to be increased. In the transmission gap, the subscriber station UE tunes the E receiver to the frequency of the second base station NB2 and tries to detect a channel that is useful for synchronization with the time structure of the second radio communication system, such as the broadcast channel BCH or synchronization channel SCH, and subsequently evaluate.
Die Übertragung erfolgt dabei kontinuierlich in einem physikalischen Übertragungskanal, der durch einen teilnehmerspezifischenTo explain the method according to the invention are shown in FIG. 2 each time frame FR of the first NBl and second Ba- sisstation NB2 shown. As already described above, the first base station NB1 supports transmission in accordance with the FDD mode of the UMTS mobile radio system. The transmission takes place continuously in a physical transmission channel, which is carried out by a subscriber-specific
Spreading code and a frequency is defined. The transmission channel is divided into time frames FR with 15 time slots S each. The second base station NB2, on the other hand, supports transmission in accordance with the TDD mode of the UMTS mobile radio system. The time frame structure corresponds to that of the FDD mode, i.e. each time frame FR is divided into 15 time slots, however there is no continuous transmission, but a physical transmission channel is defined by a frequency, a time slot S and a spreading code. Furthermore, transmission takes place both in the uplink (English uplink) to the base station and in the downward direction (English downlink) to the subscriber station UE in a common frequency band. The two systems are not synchronized with one another, this is shown by a time offset of the start of the respective time frame FR in FIG. 2.
(-0 CO rv> f I-1 P-"To define the transmission gap, a start and a length of the transmission gap are signaled to the subscriber station UE by the currently serving first base station NB1. The start of the time interval, which corresponds to the transmission gap, is defined by the signaling of a time slot number TGSN (Transmission Gap Starting Slot Number). In the example in FIG. 2, the indication TGSN = 9 indicates that. the subscriber station .UE has a transmission gap available from time slot S9. The length of the transmission gap is defined by further signaling the number of time slots TGL (Transmission Gap Length). lige Teilnehmerstation oder auch für mehrere Teilnehmerstationen erfolgen.current subscriber station or for several subscriber stations.
Einige Systeme (zB. In addition, the monitoring of GSM and TDD from UMTS FDD mode turns out to be the most important application.
