Abstract

For a mobile telephone, a telephone relay (10) comprises a casing (11) having an electrical i/o terminal (12) and an acoustic output terminal (13), and an acoustic transducer (14) within the casing for converting an incoming radio-frequency signal received on the i/o terminal of the acoustic transducer to an equivalent acoustic signal at the acoustic output of the acoustic transducer. An audio circuit (15) has a microphone (16) for converting voice signals to equivalent electrical signals at the i/o terminal of the acoustic transducer, and an electrical conductor (17) is capable of being coupled to the i/o terminal of the acoustic transducer and for connecting to a remote telephone. A sound-conductive tube (20) is capable of being coupled at a first end thereof to the acoustic output terminal of the acoustic transducer and capable of being coupled at a second, opposite end to an earpiece worn by an operator of the mobile telephone. The device may be provided as an integral unit or as a retrofit adapter including an auxiliary earpiece (34) for connecting to the earpiece (32) of a mobile telephone earpiece (31).
