Description

Stand for supporting a dispenser or goods container and advertising device, together with a system for mounting a dispenser or goods container and advertising device on a stand
The present invention relates to a stand substantially for supporting a dispenser or goods container, e.g. for a bag dispenser for use in grocery stores and the like. The invention further relates to an advertising device for mounting on a stand and a system for mounting a dispenser or goods container and advertising device on a stand in a preferred specially favourable interrelationship.
The use is known in the prior art of a dispenser or goods container, especially a bag dispenser in grocery stores etc. in connection with goods which are sold by weight or quantity, where a customer him/herself can choose how much he or she wishes to purchase. This may be in connection with fruit and vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, apples and the like, or it may be in connection with other goods such as, for example, unpackaged sweets such as drops and the like.
The main purpose of such a bag dispenser or goods container is to keep, e.g., a roll or pile of bags in an ordered condition, thus enabling a customer to help him/herself to a bag as required, preferably without several bags sticking together or accompanying the bag which the customer selects. For the salesman it is important that the dispenser contains bags at all times so that the customer always finds packaging available for unwrapped goods, while at the same time a bag dispenser must be installed at a suitable location in relation to the goods so that the dispenser is easily accessible, easy to see and accessible to a plurality of customers at a time. Furthermore, a bag dispenser naturally represents an investment and it is therefore desirable that the dispenser should cover as large an area as possible, thus avoiding the need for the salesman to invest in a disproportionate number of bag dispensers.
Among previously known solutions are bag dispensers which are built into fruit counters or vegetable counters, or loose dispensers and goods containers mounted on a suitable stand in connection with, for example, fruit or vegetable counters. In the known solutions, however, the dispenser is essentially permanently mounted and cannot be moved, whereby known dispenser solutions only cover a limited area and are thereby accessible to a small number of customers at a time.
The object of the present invention is to provide a stand with a foot or static attachment for supporting a dispenser or goods container, which dispenser or goods container can rotate relative to the stand's foot or static attachment.
The stand according to the present invention is not restricted to supporting bag dispensers and can therefore be used for supporting a wide range of dispensers or goods containers, e.g. for sweets, printed matter such as brochures etc.
On account of the problems associated with the previously known solutions, as well as the above-mentioned object and the wish to give a dispenser the greatest possible accessibility, according to the present invention a stand is provided principally for supporting a dispenser or goods container according to the introduction to the following independent claim 1 , with characterising features as specified in the characterising part of claim 1. Further alternative embodiments of the stand are indicated in the claims 2 to 6.
Thus according to the present invention a stand is provided principally for supporting a dispenser, e.g. a bag dispenser or goods container, which stand is essentially composed of a support device, an upper attachment device for the dispenser and a distance piece extending between the support device and the attachment device for the dispenser, which distance piece is composed of one or more successive elements and which distance piece comprises at least one substantially vertically extending piece. The stand is characterized in that the attachment device for the dispenser and the vertically extending piece of the distance piece together are rotatably mounted about a substantially vertical axis relative to the support device, and preferably about the longitudinal direction of the vertically extending piece of the distance piece.
The rotatable mounting can be implemented by having the distance piece as such rotatably connected to the support device, or the distance piece divided at a point between the vertically extending piece and the support device into an upper and a lower part where the upper and lower parts are rotatably interconnected. The lower part can thereby be further securely connected to the support device and the upper part to the vertically extending piece of the distance piece and the dispenser is rotatably mounted about a vertical axis relative to the support device.
In one embodiment the rotating connection is composed of two cylindrical elements which are overlapping in their longitudinal direction (at least the outermost of which is tubular) and where the two elements can rotate relative to each other. Alternatively, other commonly known rotating connections may be employed.
In one embodiment the distance piece is essentially in the form of an elongated tubular body with a substantially circular cross section. Moreover, in a further embodiment the distance piece is substantially in the form of several elongated bodies which are constructively connected by connecting bodies such as threaded pieces or the like. This simplifies assembly and transport and enables the distance piece to be adapted to different existing situations. In further alternative embodiments the distance piece may be designed with different cross sections such as, for example, square, oval, triangular and so on.
The object of the distance piece is essentially to mount the dispenser at a correct and suitable height with regard to a user. The length is adapted according to where the stand is located, e.g. on the floor, on a table, etc.
The attachment device for the dispenser or goods container is formed in the preferred embodiment by having the upper end of the distance piece provided with one or more notches or indentations substantially along the edge of the distance piece, or with one or more outwardly projecting lugs. The dispenser is designed with a sleeve for placing on the inside or the outside of the upper end of the distance piece, which sleeve is further provided with one or more transverse elements or one or more horizontally outwardly projecting lugs or indentations, which are complementarily designed relative to the notches, the indentations or the outwardly projecting lugs at the upper end of the distance piece. The dispenser can thereby be placed in the desired position at the upper end of the distance piece, and the dispenser will be so arranged relative to the distance piece that the dispenser essentially cannot be rotated about the distance piece's longitudinal axis. The preferred solution is simple and inexpensive to produce while at the same time being capable of being adapted to a number of existing attachment devices in connection with the dispensers and goods containers. The solution, moreover, provides a rotationally fixed connection in the horizontal plane which is preferred since the dispenser or goods container together with a section of the distance piece should preferably rotate together relative to the foot of the stand.
In different embodiments the support device is a foot or plate, or the support device is a bracket with additional attachment devices for securing to a base, which base forms an angle with the horizontal plane. The base may, for example, be a wall, a part of a fruit and vegetable counter, a specially designed container for special goods or the like.
With the solution which is described above, according to the present invention the dispenser can be rotated so as to cover an extensive area in which it is located, and a customer can take hold of the dispenser and then rotate it towards him/her, whereupon he/she gets hold of a bag and pulls it out. If it is crowded in front of the dispenser it will still be very easy for a user to rotate the dispenser towards him/her and thereby be guaranteed unrestricted access to the contents of the dispenser.
If such a dispenser is mounted on a distance piece which in turn is rotatably attached to a wall bracket or the like, the substantially vertically extending piece of the distance piece with the dispenser can in turn be rotatably mounted about a vertical axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the substantially vertically extending piece of the distance piece, with the result that an "arm" is formed between the substantially vertically extending piece of the distance piece and the rotatable connection in the mounting bracket for the wall. In this case the dispenser can cover an even greater area and this kind of installation can be particularly advantageous in connection with, e.g., a curved fruit or vegetable counter where the counter's radius substantially corresponds to the turning radius of the dispenser about the wall mounting bracket.
In addition the dispenser catches the eye of customers and in general it is desirable to utilise this eye catcher to advertise, e.g. goods or information concerning goods once the customer's attention has been captured.
In this context the placing of advertising material or information on various goods containers, e.g. in grocery stores is well known. The goods containers, moreover, may be specially designed with advertising material. Known advertising material, however, is usually static and permanently mounted. In connection with a stand with a dispenser or goods container, e.g. as specified in the present application, it will be desirable to provide advertising material which is adapted to the customer's position in relation particularly to the dispenser or goods container. When it rotates on the stand it is desirable that the advertising material rotates together with the dispenser or goods container. The advertising material can therefore be arranged on a relatively flat surface which at all times is directed towards the customer when the dispenser or goods container is in use.
It is therefore an object to provide an advertising device which can be placed on a stand for supporting a dispenser or goods container according to the above-stated requirements.
With regard to the wish to advertise goods or services in the vicinity of the dispenser, in order to exploit the eye-catching effect represented by the dispenser, according to the present invention an advertising device is provided for mounting on a substantially vertical section of a stand, which stand is employed, e.g., for supporting a dispenser. The advertising device according to the present invention is therefore particularly suitable for mounting on a stand as mentioned above according to the present invention. An advertising device according to the present invention is further indicated in the introduction to the following independent claim 7 with characterising features as indicated in the characterising part of the claim. Further alternative embodiments are indicated in the claims 8 to 14.
The advertising device can be provided with various kinds of advertising material such as information posters, price lists, goods info, information on offers or various kinds of factual information.
For this purpose an advertising device is provided for placing on a substantially vertical section of a stand, which stand is employed, e.g., for supporting a dispenser or goods container, which advertising device is composed of a substantially plate-shaped billet with a front and a rear side, which billet is further provided with an upper and a lower end. The advertising device is characterized in that over the whole or parts of its length between the upper and lower ends, the billet is curved about a substantially horizontal axis as a section of a shell-shaped cylindrical body, and is provided with or composed of one or more attachment devices for connecting the advertising device with the stand.
The indication of the front and rear sides, as well as an upper and lower end is mainly employed in order to simplify the indication of the advertising device's characterising features and the mounting of the attachment devices, etc. The basic inventive features of the advertising device are nevertheless also associated with the shape of the advertising device's plate-shaped billet, which over the whole or parts of its length between the upper and lower ends is curved in the vertical plane, i.e. about a substantially horizontal axis as a section of a shell-shaped, cylindrical body.
In various embodiments the billet is provided with or formed with one or more attachment devices and in the preferred embodiment, in at least one of the upper and lower ends the billet is provided with or formed with one or more attachment devices for connecting the advertising device with the stand. This arrangement of the attachment devices provides a stable attachment to the stand and keeps the advertising device constantly in a secure relationship with the curved surface about a horizontal axis, while at the same time the solution is particularly advantageous with regard to the production and design of the advertising device and the attachment devices which are substantially composed of a channel-shaped profile with a bottom and a lateral edge formed on each side of the bottom, which is designed with a through-going hole or a section for mounting about the vertical section of the stand.
In a further embodiment the advertising device is locked to the vertical section of the stand by a screw connection, pin or the like which projects from at least one of the lateral edges in the channel-shaped profile substantially in the horizontal plane, and which pin, screw or the like engages with an opening or a hole in the vertical part of the stand. Furthermore, in one embodiment the advertising device's plate-shaped billet is attached to the bottom of the channel-shaped profile in the attachment devices at a distance from one of the lateral edges.
The channel-shaped profile, moreover, is particularly advantageous since the ends of the plate-shaped billet can also be mounted and attached to the bottom of the channel-shaped attachment devices at a distance from one of the lateral edges where the lateral edge also faces the billet's curved surface. Thus an attachment device mounted at each of the upper and lower ends of the advertising device can form an upper and lower substantially angular collar or edge which can be used to secure a poster or other form of advertising material to the advertising device. If the distance between the lateral edge on the attachment device and the curved surface on the advertising device is sufficient, moreover, in an additional embodiment a transparent material may be placed in front of the advertising material in order to further protect it from dust and dirt etc. This may further be combined with the complete or partial inclusion of the transparent material in the advertising material by, for example, printing on a logo for the individual shop in which the advertising device is employed or the like. The curved billet may, for example, be welded or glued to the attachment devices.
In one embodiment, moreover, the front side of the advertising device is provided along one or more outer edges with an edge pointing forwards from the advertising device's plate-shaped billet.
The curved shape of the advertising device is adopted particularly with a view to the user's position relative to the advertising device when the user or the customer is using a dispenser or goods container mounted on a stand. In this case the advertising device will be placed lower than the dispenser, and in a great many cases the dispenser will naturally be mounted at chest height or the like where it is easy for a user to get hold of the dispenser's contents. Thus in order to make it easy for the user to see what is placed on the advertising device, it is curved in at least the upper section of the advertising device, with the result that the user looks down on a part of the advertising device which is angled towards the user's face over a part of the arc, and the advertising device is further provided in one embodiment with a substantially vertical section under the curved upper part. This is particularly to ensure that the advertising device is informative at a greater distance.
In further embodiments the advertising device may be curved about a substantially vertical axis in order to ensure that the advertising device is easier to see particularly from the sides. This may have a specially advantageous effect if the advertising device, the vertically extending piece of the distance piece and the dispenser can be rotated about a substantially vertical axis, and if a customer catches a glimpse of parts of what the advertising device is displaying (preferably at the side of the advertising device), it is easy for the customer, with a solution according to the present invention which is indicated in claims 1 to 6, to rotate the advertising device, the vertical section of the distance piece and the dispenser so that the dispenser and the advertising device are directly facing the user.
According to the above-mentioned solutions relating to the stand and the advertising device, it is a further object of the present invention that the advertising device and a dispenser mounted at the upper end of the stand are attached to a stand in such a manner that the front of the dispenser (where the user substantially has access to the dispenser's contents) and the front of the advertising device always face in the same direction. Thus when a user or customer wishes to help him/herself to the dispenser's contents and rotates it towards him/her, the advertising device will always follow in the same direction.
Thus according to the present invention a system is provided for mounting a dispenser and an advertising device on a stand. The advertising device is preferably in the preferred embodiment as mentioned above, and as is subsequently described in claims 7 to 14, and the stand is in the preferred embodiment as mentioned above and as described in the following claims 1 to 6. The system for mounting a dispenser and an advertising device on a stand is further specified in the introduction to the following claim 15 with characterising features as indicated in the characterising part of claim 15.
Thus according to the present invention a system is provided for mounting a dispenser and an advertising device as mentioned above on a stand substantially with a vertical section, e.g. as mentioned above, characterized in that the dispenser and the advertising device are attached to the same stand element or different stand elements which are constructively connected in such a manner that the elements are connected in a fixed relative rotational relationship in the horizontal plane, and that the attachment device for the advertising device and the attachment device for the dispenser are mounted at such a relative angle in the horizontal plane that the front of the dispenser and the front of the advertising device face in substantially the same direction. Since the stand according to the present invention is composed of a substantially vertically extending piece, and the attachment device for the dispenser and the vertically extending piece together are rotatably mounted about a vertical axis relative to the stand's support device, the advertising device is further securely mounted on the vertically extending piece of the distance piece. Furthermore, the advertising device is locked to the vertically extending piece of the distance piece by means of, for example, a screw connection, a pin or lug on the advertising device's attachment device which engages with a notch or an indentation in the vertically extending piece of the distance piece or the like. This locks the advertising device relative to the vertically extending piece of the distance piece on the stand and when this vertically extending piece is rotated about the stand's support device the advertising device will thus follow this rotating movement.
Furthermore, the upper end of the stand according to the following claim 4 together with a dispenser is provided with an attachment device for the dispenser, and according to the system in the present invention the attachment on the upper end of the stand and the locking device for the advertising device must be arranged relative to each other in such a manner that the advertising device and the dispenser are mounted with their fronts pointing in the same direction on the stand. This means that the attachment device for the advertising device and the locking device for the dispenser are arranged at such a relative angle in the horizontal plane that the front of the dispenser and the front of the advertising device are facing in substantially the same direction.
The stand, the advertising device and the system for mounting a dispenser and the advertising device on the stand are further explained in closer detail in the accompanying figures, in which: fig. 1 is a perspective view of a stand according to the present invention, with an advertising device.

In figs. 1 and 2 a stand is illustrated according to the present invention substantially for supporting a dispenser. The stand is essentially composed of a support device 1 and an upper attachment device 2 for the dispenser together with a distance piece 3 extending between the support device and the attachment device for the dispenser. In fig. 1 the distance piece 3 is formed in one piece, while in fig. 2 it is formed from 3a and 3b. In alternative embodiments the distance piece 3 may be composed of additional successive elements which are constructively connected. The distance piece 3 further comprises a substantially vertically extending piece 3', and according to the present invention the attachment device for the dispenser 2 and the vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 together are rotatably mounted about a vertical axis relative to the support device 1. As illustrated in figs. 1 and 2 the attachment device 2 for the dispenser and the vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 are rotatable about the distance piece's 3 longitudinal axis relative to the support device 1. In further alternative embodiments, where, for example, the support device is a mounting bracket for a wall or other surface which forms an angle with the horizontal plane, the axis or rotation for the attachment device and the vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 can be located outside the longitudinal axis of the distance piece 3 or the vertically extending piece
3'.
As illustrated in figs. 1 and 2 the distance piece 3 is composed of an elongated tubular body with a substantially circular cross section.
In fig. 1 the substantially vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 is rotatably attached to the support device 1, and in fig. 2 the piece 3a of the distance piece 3 is firmly connected to the support device 1 , while the piece 3b of the distance piece 3 is rotatably connected to the piece 3a. The piece 3b thereby constitutes the vertically extending piece 3'.
Furthermore, the attachment device for the dispenser is illustrated in figs. 3a and 3b, and in fig. 3a the upper end of the distance piece 3 is formed at the vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 which according to the present invention should be rotatably mounted about a vertical axis relative to the support device together with the dispenser.
In the upper end of the distance piece 3' there are provided two notches 4, which reflect a preferred embodiment, since two notches at an angle relative to each other are a simple and inexpensive form of attachment device, while at the same time providing the necessary constructive connection between the upper end of the distance piece 3' and the dispenser, with its attachment sleeve 5. In the dispenser's attachment sleeve 5 there is further provided a transverse, through-going pin or bolt 6 which, when the sleeve 5 is placed on the upper end of the distance piece 3', engages with the notches 4. A secure connection is thereby formed in the horizontal rotational plane between the substantially vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 and the dispenser at the dispenser's attachment sleeve 5.
In fig. 3b the attachment device is illustrated in a perspective view where it can clearly be seen that the dispenser's attachment sleeve 5 can be placed on the inside of the upper end of the substantially vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3. In an alternative embodiment the attachment sleeve 5 for the dispenser may be designed in such a manner that it is placed on the outside of the substantially vertically extending piece 3', in which case on the inside on each side of the sleeve 5 there will be provided lugs, beads or projections which engage with the notches 4 in the upper end of the distance piece 3'.
As illustrated in fig. 3 a the transverse pin 6 is mounted at a distance from the lower end of the connecting sleeve 5 with the result that the sleeve 5 will form a stable connection at the upper end of the distance piece 3', and correspondingly projections, lugs or beads on a sleeve 5 which are to be mounted on the inside of the distance piece 3' will be mounted at a distance from the lower end of the sleeve 5.
Furthermore, in figs. 4, 5 and 6 an advertising device 10 is illustrated according to the present invention, which advertising device 10 has a lower and an upper end. At the lower end of the advertising device 10 there is mounted an attachment device 11 and at the upper end there is mounted an attachment device 12. In alternative embodiments the advertising device 10 may be provided with one or more attachment devices, but in the manner illustrated in fig. 4 a stable structure is obtained, and the mounting of both an upper and a lower attachment device of the type which is illustrated in fig. 4 is also advantageous with regard to the placing of advertising material on the front of the advertising device.
The upper and lower attachment devices are substantially in the form of a channel-shaped profile with a bottom 11a, 12a and a lateral edge 1 lb, 12b, l ie, 12c formed on each side of the bottom. The bottom 11a, 12a is further provided with a through- going hole l id, 12d for mounting on a stand according to the present invention. As illustrated in fig. 4, moreover, both in the upper and lower attachment devices there are provided locking devices in the form of through- going holes l ie, 12e where by mounting a screw, a bolt, pin or the like it is possible to lock the attachment device 11, 12 to sections or holes in the vertical part 3' of the stand 3.
In figs. 5 and 6, moreover, it is illustrated how the advertising device 10 is mounted at a distance from the front lateral edge l ie, 12c on the lower and upper attachment devices 11, 12 respectively. There is therefore a gap between the front lateral edge l ie, 12c and the front side of the advertising device 10 which can be used to contain an advertising article such as a poster or the like. If the curved advertising plate 10 is further mounted at an increased distance from the front lateral edge l ie, 12c, it will be possible to use the front lateral edge l ie, 12c to hold a transparent plate or the like for protecting the advertising article.
Moreover, according to the present invention in figs. 7, 8 and 9 a stand according to the present invention is illustrated with an advertising device 10 according to the present invention and a dispenser 20 mounted at the upper end 2 of the distance piece 3'. The dispenser 20 and the advertising device 10 are mounted according to a system according to the present invention in such a manner that the front side of the dispenser 20, where a user helps him/herself to the dispenser's contents is at all times facing in the same direction as the front of the advertising device 10. This interrelationship between dispenser and advertising device is provided by means of an interrelationship between the locking device or lock hole in the substantially vertically extending piece 3' of the distance piece 3 and the notches or indentations 4 in the attachment device 2 for the dispenser 20. The lock holes for the attachment devices 11 and 12, which are placed overlapping the holes l ie, 12e, must be formed in such an angular relationship in the horizontal plane relative to the indentations or notches 4 that the advertising device 10 and the dispenser 20 are mounted with their fronts pointing in the same direction. If, for example, the transverse pin or bolt 6 in the sleeve 5 under the dispenser 20 is mounted transversely, parallel to the front of the dispenser 20, the opening for locking mounting of the attachment device 11 and 12 at the holes l ie, 12e must be mounted displaced at an angle of 90° in the horizontal plane relative to the notches 4.
In alternative embodiments it will be possible to only lock one of the attachment devices 11 and 12.
Furthermore, it will be possible to mount the locking screw or locking pin on the front lateral edge l ie, 12c, but this is not preferred since it might mar the appearance of the front of the advertising device.
In further alternative embodiments the attachment device on the upper end of the substantially vertically extending section 3' of the stand 3 can be mounted with more than two notches or indentations, and in such cases it is advantageous if the angular relationship between the notches or indentations only permits the sleeve 5 under the dispenser 20 to be placed at a specific angular relationship, since the angular difference between the various notches or indentations is differently and unequally distributed. Thus it will not be possible to angularly displace the dispenser 20 with the sleeve 5 relative to the upper end with the attachment device 2 on the substantially vertically extending section 3' of the stand 3. This further contributes to ensuring that the dispenser 20 is mounted with its front pointing in the same direction as the advertising device 10.
In alternative embodiments the attachment device 2 for the dispenser may consist of a sleeve or pin on the bottom of the dispenser which is brought into constructive connection with the upper end of the distance piece 3' by a substantially horizontally mounted locking screw or the like.
In figure 10 a further embodiment is illustrated where a stand 3 with a vertically extending section 2' is mounted on a holder or foot 1 which, for example, may be placed on a table or other kind of elevated base. The stand 3 is prepared for mounting a dispenser or goods container at 2 and is further provided with an advertising device 10. Alternatively, the stand illustrated in figure 10 may be mounted on a bracket or the like for attachment to a wall or other surface which forms an angle with the horizontal plane.
The above-mentioned embodiments should only be regarded as examples and the scope of the inventive concept is further indicated in the following patent claims.
