Abstract

A dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) protocol is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a dynamic bandwidth allocation protocol of synchronizing transmitting data and receiving data is provided and includes assigning at a transmitter side (212) a single connection identification to all VTs in a nxVT connection, mapping at the transmitter side (212) transmitting data from one connection to VTs allocated to the nxVT connection, marking at the transmitter side overhead of the VTs with the connection ID in an outgoing nxVT stream, looking at the receiver side (214) at the connection identification of VTs, and placing at the receiver side (214) all VTs with the same connection identification in the first-in-first-out buffer related to the nxVT connection. In an exemplary embodiment, a dynamic bandwidth allocation protocol of carrying a dynamic bandwidth allocation message and managing information is provided and includes placing the message in the overhead of VTs.
