THE DESCRIPTION
SECURITY FUNCTION ON DOOR LOCKS' LATCH AT HOME AND AT WORK
This invention enables entrance doors at home and at work to work efficiently and at the same time gives confidence to people indoors without constantly remembering their obligation to lock the door.
Door locks are used in every day to provide efficiency to entrance doors in closing and opening, in preventing the entrance of intruders. According to their function, door locks are made up of a latch and dead bolt. The latch currently used are shaped like a bolt in order to open and close the door easily and swiftly. The middle and back part of the latch is within the locks' trunk and it works together with a spring mechanism. During the door is closed, the front part of the latch which is left on the outside, is pushed inside and outwards by the spring mechanism.
The front part of the latch is shaped like an upright triangle prism, placed perpendicularly. Due to its horizontally angled surface, in the event of closing the door it enters the strike plate with the help of the spring mechanism within the lock trunk. Above mentioned door closing way is currently used in the world by pushing the door by people.
Whether used in our country or abroad, the function of the latch mechanism on the door locks are solely to allow doors to work easily and swiftly. Although latch may vary in size, they are all alike in shape. Because of their structure, their function allows the door to be opened and closed easily by users. Intruders can easily open the door through simple methods by using materials like steel wire, thin plastic- or steel-plate and enter the house, too.
Latch that we use today do not have a security function, therefore it is necessary to use the dead bolt on the lock trunk to ensure security. To guarantee that the door is safely closed, the dead bolt must be used along with the latch and to reopen the door the same steps must be taken in reverse. No matter how inconvenient these steps are, we must repeat them every time we open or close the door.
Intruders would try to enter the house even the residents are inside. People use the dead bolt by means of a key. When they are indoors they must leave the key on the lock since they are frequently using the dead bolt. The key that is left on the lock inside prevents reserve key opening the lock from outside. On the other hand if the key is forgotten by mistake on the lock inside, unless there is someone inside to remove it the door can not be opened. If the key is forgotten indoors on the lock mechanism, this would be troublesome for people who are outside.
It is imperative that the door is and stays closed especially when home and work place are abandoned. Therefore we must use the dead bolt without being forgetful. This obligation causes people to re-check whether they have locked the door or not and this can be troublesome.
The function of the latch in the lock trunk is solely to allow the door to open and close swiftly and easily. With this invention however, the latch has gained a safety aspect, without changing how people usually use the door and which is not troublesome to people like forgetting to lock the door or forgetting the key inside of house on the lock. Through this invention, in case of not used dead bolt the intruders can not enter the house through simple methods by using materials like steel wire, thin plastic- or steel- plate, i.e. people can lock the door as an additional security or they could not lock the door. This invention provides for people no trouble in daily use.
This invention is described in more detail in the attached drawings. In these drawings ;

Figure 2: Shows a perpendicular view of a three dimensional lock trunk on which the invention is applied.
Because of the way they work, door locks are made up of two fragments. One is the lock trunk (Figure 2) that is placed on the moving part of the door which is called the wing. The other is called the strike plate (Figure 1) that is placed on the inactive part of the door which is called the case. In order to add a safety function to the latch (1) located on the lock trunk (Figure 2), without changing the door opening-closing habits of people, the shape of the latch (1) must be changed along with its function how it works.
On the lock trunk (Figure 2), the front part of the latch (1) is seen as an isosceles triangle prism placed horizontally. The latch (1) stays stationary when the door closes and does not enter in the lock trunk (Figure 2). This gives the latch the security function. The latch (1) has edges with angles that originate from the isosceles triangle prism shape which is placed horizontally. The mentioned edges of the latch (1) go between pins (3) that are symmetric to each other and can move up and down with the help of the spring mechanism located inside the pin-bearing (4) that which in turn is located on the strike plate (Figure 1). When the edges of the latch (1) go between the pins (3), they push the lower perpendicular pin (3) down and push the upper perpendicular pin (3) up. Finally when the latch (1) enters the latch-nesting (2) on the strike plate (Figure 1), the pins (3) are released from the force of pushing by the latch (1). When the spring mechanism pushes the pins (3) forward, they take their previous position. The above steps occur when the door closes.
When the door is closed the isosceles triangle prism shape of the latch mechanism (1) and the position of the pins (3) prevents the door to be opened by intruders. This invention as a result provides a sense of safety even at times when the dead bolt(5) is not used by securing the door.
