Definitions
- Applicant's invention relates to an attachment system and methodology to allow for quick and easy interchange of various boom head configurations particularly those boom head configurations used in the mowing and vegetation maintenance industry.
- the mowing and vegetation maintenance industries utilize large and/or heavy equipment in order to accomplish the tasks at hand both efficiently and economically.
- the use of such large and/or heavy equipment can fall short of efficiency if the equipment operator, in an average shift, is expected to perform multiple tasks which utilize different equipment head configurations in a short period of time.
- the operator if an operator needs to interchange the boom head configurations, the operator has to physically take apart the linkages and/or take the bolts out of the linkages and start disassembling the unit. This typically requires the use of extra tools which the operator may not have.
- the disassembly alone can take as much as 30 minutes, which is 30 minutes that actual mowing and/or vegetation maintenance is not occurring.
- the present invention was designed to give a quick and easy way to disassemble and reassemble the unit to interchange boom heads. This invention is more efficient than the existing art because it requires no additional tools and allows an operator to make the complete interchange of boom heads in as little as 2 minutes. Applicant knows of no other invention of this type in the mowing and vegetation maintenance industries.
- Still another object of the present invention is to provide a novel quick attachment system to increase the efficiency for interchanging boom heads.
- Applicant's present invention provides a boom head attachment system and methodology. Applicant's invention permits its practitioner to quickly and easily interchange various boom head configurations.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the quick attachment system engaged into a mower hitch post.
- Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment, of the attachment system showing the quick attachment system engaged and locked into operating position.
- Fig. 3 shows a side view (a) and head on view (b) of the eccentric cam pin.
- FIG. 1 a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the quick attachment system is shown engaged into a mower hitch post 104.
- a mower head 110 is shown attached by conventional means to the mower hitch post 104.
- the mower hitch post 104 has a first mounting point 103 for a boom 102 and a second mounting point 107 for a linkage 111. Normally, the first mounting point
- a first bracket 101 is attached by conventional means on one side 101a to the boom 102 by way of a boom mounting point 112 and on a second side 101b to the linkage 111 by way of a linkage mounting point 114.
- the linkage mounting point 114 is connected by conventional means to a quick hitch 115.
- Fig. 2 shows the preferred embodiment of the quick attachment system engaged and locked into its operating position.
- the first mounting point 103 is preferably designed to stay in position.
- the first mounting point 103 is preferably a roller pin 103a (See Fig. 4a and 4b) which allows hook 113 of the quick hitch 115 to slide over and lock onto the roller pin 103a at the first mounting point 103.
- the design of the roller pin 103a tends to drive the hook 113 to the middle of the roller pin 103a which self centers the quick hitch 115.
- the second mounting point 107 and quick hitch mounting point 116 (See Fig. 1) are in alignment to allow for the placement of an eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c).
- the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a- 3c) is inserted to lock the quick hitch 115 to the mower hitch post 104.
- the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c) is removed and the quick hitch mounting point 116 is disengaged from the second mounting point 107.
- the hook 113 is next unhooked from the roller pin 103a at the first mounting point 103 which frees the linkage 111.
- Another mower head 1 10 may then be attached and the user can proceed accordingly.
- the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c) is particularly useful with the attachment system since the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c) features an internal alignment mechanism which utilizes a circular section 118 (See Fig. 3a- 3c) aligned acentrically at the tip of the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c). This facilitates the alignment between bores of the second mounting point 107 and the quick hitch mounting point 1 16 by engaging the circular section 1 18 (See Fig. 3a-3c) into a mating bore and through rotation of the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c), the bores become aligned allowing the eccentric cam pin 119 (See Fig. 3a-3c) to slide through.
- an additional locking device 120 (See Fig. 3c and 3d) could be incorporated to the hook 113 to allow the mower head 110 to hang by the hook 113 to ease mounting and dismounting of the quick hitch 1 15.
