Abstract

A system and method for communication session recovery is provided wherein a circuit is rerouted in response to a failure in the network. A method and apparatus is provided wherein a control function is lost that controls circuit maintenance and rerouting functions, the circuit can be routed despite the loss of control function. The method comprises detecting that a portion of an established connection between a source and destination system is not operating, detecting that a control session is not operating in a first intermediary networking system along the established connection, and in response to detecting that the control session is not operating, establishing a new control session in the first intermediary networking system. In one aspect, a disconnect message is forwarded, within the new control session, to a switch that established the connection.
