DOOR STRUCTURE FOR A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE
The present invention relates to a door structure for a household appliance, in particular a f ont loading washing machine.
It is well known that the door of a dishwashing machine comprises an inner door and an outer door made of metal plates, and a control panel made of plastic. Control equipment is located into the interior space of the control panel. The inner door is connected to the control panel by means of screws. To enable this, screw locations are provided on the rim surrounding the door. This connection is disadvantageous since it requires workmanship to tighten the screws and there is an undesired gap between the inner door and the control panel. It is required to improve the appearance of the door when it is open.
The door structure mentioned in DE 3537185 discloses a connection provided by detent devices on the control panel. There are recesses left on the metal part of the inner door. The detent devices on the control panel are engaged into these recesses to interconnect the inner door and the control panel. In another embodiment of that invention, the recesses are positioned on the control panel and the detents are provided on the inner door rim. The detents are inserted into those recesses in order to provide the interconnection. The use of screws is avoided in those embodiments but there is still a possibility to have a gap between the inner door and the control panel. Another disadvantage of this application is that detent devices on the control panel break easily as a result of the sharp edges of the recesses on the metal inner door. In the other embodiment where the detent devices are provided on the metal inner door rim, they may damage the recesses on the plastic control panel.
Another example of prior dishwasher door structures is shown in GB 2,189,136. In that reference, dishwashing machine has an inner door member that is interconnected by means of projections on the outer door member. The inner
door member is provided with pocket-shaped recesses into which corresponding hooks, tongues or loops of the outer door member fit during fastening. This fastening is realized by means of the relative sliding movement of the members.
The object of the present invention is to provide a door structure that avoids the gap formation between the inner door and the control panel and that improves the appearance of the door.
Another object of this invention is to provide an easy mounting and dismounting of the control panel without using any additional fastening means and to prevent the damages which might occur due to mounting and dismounting of the control panel.
Door structure according to the present invention is illustrated in the drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 - is the perspective view of the door
Figure 2a - is the top view of the inner door wherein a single projection and recess structure is provided longitudinally throughout the inner door.
Figure 2b - is the top view of the inner door wherein numerous projection and recess structures are provided intermittently throughout the inner door. Figure 3 - is the sectional side view of the door structure taken along line A-A of Fig 1.
The components shown in the drawings have the following numbers:
1. Inner door 2. Control Panel
3. Outer Door
4. Snap
5. Projection
6. Recess
7. Cavity
The washing machine is provided with a door structure that comprises an inner door (1), an outer door (3) and a control panel (2).
The inner door (1) is deep drawn to form a projection (5) and recess (6) structure on the rim portion. The position and quantity of the projection (5) and recess (6) structures may vary. A single projection (5) and recess (6) structure may be provided throughout the inner door (1) longitudinally or many projection (5) and recess (6) structures may be provided intermittently. There is a cavity (7) on the control panel (2). A snap (4) is provided on the edge of the control panel (2). When the inner door (1) is inserted into the cavity (7), the snap (4) engages into the recess (6), catches the projection (5) and keeps the structure secure.
The door structure is assembled by inserting the inner door (1) into the cavity (7) provided that the projection (5) passes over the snap (4) and prevents the control panel (2) from loosening. The projection (5) and the snap (4), being tough enough, both apply forces on the same line, having reverse directions. The snap (4) pushes the inner door (1) upwards and decreases the gap between the control panel (2) and inner door (1). These forces keep the assembly tight and prevent the motion of the projection (5).
This invention provides an interconnection between the inner door (1) and the control panel (2) without any gap, it improves the appearance of the door and eliminates need for an additional fastening means. The snap (4) and the projection (5) prevent the movement of the inner door (1) on both x and y axis. Since there is no recess or detent with sharp edges on the inner metal door rim, any damages which might occur on the plastic control panel are avoided. The curved shape of
the projection (5) which is obtained by deep drawing the inner door (1), prevents the breaking of the snap (4). Since the projection (5) does not have any sharp' edge, it does not damage the control panel (2).
In an alternative embodiment of this invention the control panel (2) is formed of two different parts. The first part is the panel front cover that is the part seen by the user and the second part is the panel back structure located on the inner side of the control panel (2). These two parts are connected together. The control panel (2) may also be formed of three or more interconnected parts.
