Description

Partitioning device for store and storage shelves
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a divider for shop or store-room shelves, which shelves are provided with a fixing strip running along at least one longitudinal edge of the shelf, the divider being provided at one end with at least one gripping part constructed of plastic, which gripping part comprises two gripping claws designed for gripping the fixing strip.
BACKGROUND
Dividers of this kind are used to a great extent in, for example, shops for dividing shelves into compartments for different products. The shelves can be provided with fixing strips along both the back and front edge, in which case the dividers are also provided with gripping parts at both ends. A divider is mounted on the relevant strip, which is usually in the shape of a T-profile, by being pressed downwards, so that the claws of the gripping part grip the T-profile with a spring action. Removing such a divider from a fixing strip can be difficult and can require a relatively strong force.
A disadvantage with known dividers is that, in order to permit simple movement along the fixing strips, they must not grip the fixing strips too tightly. This means, however, that the dividers can easily be moved along the strips unintentionally. This applies particularly when the gripping parts are manufactured of a plastic material which cold flows, as the shape of the gripping part thereby adapts itself to the shape of the strip, with reduced friction engagement with this as a result. If the friction engagement is increased initially by means of a tighter grip on the strips, this means that it will be too difficult to move the dividers along the strips to adjust the size of the compartment for products. In addition, this makes the installation and removal of the dividers more difficult.
AIM OF THE INVENTION
A principal aim of the present invention is to achieve a divider which can be mounted with a relatively tight grip on an associated fixing strip, in order to prevent unintentional movement of the divider along the strip, but which grip can be reduced temporarily, for example for installation, removal and movement of the divider. This aim is achieved by means of a divider of the kind described in the first paragraph, which is characterized in that the part of the divider adjoining the gripping part is provided with a slot extending from the gripping part, so that when a force is applied, a part of the divider delimited by the slot can move towards the other part of the divider, with resultant pivoting of one gripping claw in a direction away from the other.
With a divider of this kind, the grip on the fixing strip can thus be temporarily reduced, for example for intentional movement of the divider, by the space between the gripping claws being widened. This means that the divider can be constructed in such a way that, when installed, it is very difficult to move it along the fixing strip, which prevents unintentional movement of the same.
The slot in the divider extends suitably diagonally upwards from the gripping part and can either open out in the upper edge of the divider or via an adjoining slot in the nearest side edge of the divider.
The slot is suitably constructed in such a way that an outer part of the divider delimited by the slot is connected to the outer gripping claw of the gripping part, for pivoting this claw outwards upon the application of a force upon the said outer part.
In one embodiment, the divider is constructed with locking elements on each side of the slot, which means that the part of the divider delimited by the slot can be locked temporarily in the position it assumes when force is applied. This simplifies the division of a shelf into a plurality of compartments for products by the utilization of a number of adjustable dividers and the adjustment of the width of the respective compartments.
The invention will be described in greater detail below, with reference to the embodiments shown as examples in the attached figures.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a part of a shop shelf with dividers according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of a divider according to Figure 1. Figures 3 and 4 show the divider in Figure 2 viewed from the front and from above respectively.
Figures 5 and 6 illustrate the function of the gripping part of the divider.
Figure 7 shows a second embodiment of a divider according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Figure 1 shows a part of a shop shelf 1 with a fixing strip 2 running along the back edge of the shelf. Two dividers 3 are mounted on the fixing strip, which at their rear end are provided with a gripping part 5 which engages with the strip 2. The dividers 3 can be moved along the strip 2 to adjust the product compartment to fit the relevant product 4. If the strip 2 is arranged along the front edge of the shelf, it can be constructed in the form of a shelf-edge strip for displaying price labels, etc.
Figures 2-4 show a divider 3 of the type utilized in Figure 1. As shown, the gripping part 5 consists of two gripping claws 6, 7, separated by a space.
The lower parts of the gripping claws 6, 7 are intended to grip around the horizontal element of a fixing strip 2 constructed with a T-shaped profile, see Figures 5 and 6.
In order to prevent an unintentional movement of the divider 3 along the strip 2, the grip of the gripping claws 6, 7 around the strip 2 must be relatively tight. This means, however, as stated above, that installation, removal and intentional movement of the divider along the fixing strip, for example to adjust the width of the product compartment, is made more difficult.
In order to eliminate this problem, the divider 3 is constructed according to the invention in such a way that, by means of a simple hand-grip, it is possible temporarily to increase the distance between the gripping claws 6, 7, in order to release the grip around the fixing strip 2, see Figure 6. The divider 3 can thereby be installed, removed or moved along the fixing strip 2 in a simple way. For this purpose, the divider is provided with a slot 9, which runs diagonally upwards from the gripping part 5. A part 8 of the divider 3 is delimited by the slot 9, which part can serve as a lever for opening the gripping part 5. This is carried out, as shown in Figures 5 and 6, by the application of a force to the part 8, with the result that this is pivoted in a direction towards the other part of the divider 3. By this means, a hinging movement is brought about in the upper transverse part of the gripping part 5, which results in the front gripping claw 6 being pivoted forwards relative to the back claw 7. By this means, the grip around the fixing strip 2 is released, see Figure 6.
The enlarged section of Figure 6 shows that, in this embodiment, the T-shaped fixing strip 2 is provided with two longitudinal friction strips 16 on each side of the vertical element. These increase further the friction between the gripping claws 6, 7 and the fixing strip 2. As a result, the grip of the gripping claws around the strip can be somewhat looser, which reduces the risk of cold flow of the material in the gripping claws and the fixing strip. A self-adhesive tape which is used for the installation of the strip 2 on a shelf is designated by 17.
Figure 7 shows another embodiment of a divider according to the invention, which is particularly suitable for use when the dividers must be relatively high. The slot 9 does not run right up to the upper edge of the divider 3, but opens out in a second slot 10 that runs inwards from the front edge of the divider. In order to make it easier to press in the part 8 delimited by the slot 9, the divider 3 is provided with a hole 11 intended for a finger or thumb. The lever function is the same as described above.
In both embodiments, the divider is constructed with chamfered parts 12, 13 on both sides of the slot 9, which facilitate pivoting of the part 8 into a position in which its inner edge overlaps the opposite edge of the slot 9. The part 8 can thus be locked into the position it assumes when force is applied, by means of two locking elements 14, 15, see Figure 6.
If locking in the position it assumes when force is applied is not required, the edges of the divider 3 bordering the slot 9 can be of full thickness right up to the slot, which can thereby be made somewhat wider.
The invention has been described above in connection with the embodiments shown in the figures. However, these can be varied in several respects within the scope of the patent claims. Thus, for example, the shape of the fixing strip and hence also the shape of the gripping claws of the divider can be varied in various ways. In addition, the divider can be provided with gripping claws and slots at both ends, for use on a shelf that also has a fixing strip along its front edge.
