Definitions
- the present invention is directed toward a layout for a gaming table and more particularly, toward a layout pad which is easily placed and secured on a table but is also easily removed and replaced.
- layouts made from felt, foam, velvet, or the like material are used on gaming tables found in casinos.
- the layout has indicia for a particular game and may contain advertisements or the like printed thereon. For example, the name of the casino, various dice odds, betting areas, and payoff schedules may be indicated on the layout.
- the layout is stapled or otherwise secured to the board of the table. As the layout becomes worn, it must be removed and replaced.
- Figures 7-9 One known method for removing and replacing a prior art layout from a gaming table is illustrated in Figures 7-9. In order to remove a layout 110 from the top 112 of a table, the rail or sidewalls 114 of the table which are secured to the top 112, the top 112 being secured to the base 116 of the table, must be removed.
- the layout 110 has been stapled or otherwise secured to the edges along the back side 118 of the tabletop 112.
- An opening 120 is typically found on a gaming table for storing a tray of chips.
- the material of the layout 110 is cut out for the opening 120 and the excess material is also stapled or otherwise secured to the tabletop 112.
- the layout 110 is removed from the back side 118 of the tabletop 112 by means of a razor or knife.
- the staples 122a-122l are then removed so that the board 112 is free of the layout 110 which is now unuseable and can be discarded.
- a replacement layout 124 having indicia printed on its front side is then spread out on the tabletop 112 so that the layout 124 may be stapled onto the back side 118 of the tabletop 112. (See Figure 9.)
- the rail 114 is put back into place and secured to the tabletop 112 and table. This is a time-consuming and labor-intensive way to replace the layout of a gaming table.
- U.S. Patent No. 5,133,559 to Page discloses a traditional layout for a gaming table.
- the layout includes various indicia for identifying various dice odds, betting areas, etc.
- the indicia on the layout helps novices to understand the game of craps.
- the layout is made from a flexible thin sheet of plastic, foam, velvet, or felt and may be placed or mounted on the horizontal top of a gaming table.
- this layout may not be easily removed and replaced.
- a need exists for a layout for a gaming table which can be easily placed and secured on a table but is also easily removed and replaced but can also be reused.
- the present invention is designed to overcome the deficiencies of the prior art discussed above. It is an object of the present invention to provide an simple and quick way to replace the layout of a gaming table.
- a gaming table layout which includes a pad having a base member made from a resilient material such as foam, rubber, or the like and a cover made from vinyl, polyester, natural fabric, or the like material.
- the cover is adhesively secured to the base member.
- the rail or sidewalls of the table are removed.
- a pad which has been sized to fit on a particular table is placed on the top of the table.
- the sidewalls of the table are then replaced. The pad does not need to be secured on the tabletop and stays in place because of the nature of the pad material.
- screws which secure the sidewalls to the tabletop may also be screwed into the layout so as to further prevent the pad from being displaced as the table is used.
- the sidewalls of the table are removed and the pad is lifted off of the tabletop.
- a replacement pad which has been sized for the table is then placed on the tabletop. The table is then reassembled.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the replacement layout of the present invention on a gaming table
- Figure 2 is a top perspective view of a length of the layout material prior to the layout being cut;
- Figure 3 is a top perspective view of a length of the layout and a template placed thereon;
- Figure 4 is an exploded view of the layout of the present invention and a gaming table;
- Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken through line 5-5 of Figure
- Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view taken through line 6-6 of Figure
- Figure 7 is an exploded view of a prior art layout and a gaming table
- Figure 8 is a bottom perspective view of a prior art layout on a gaming table.
- Figure 9 is a bottom perspective view of a prior art replacement layout being placed on the top of a gaming table.
- Figure 1 a layout for a gaming table constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention and designated generally as 10.
- the layout 10 of the present invention essentially includes a pad 12 having a base member 14 made from an open cell natural rubber, foam, plastic, neoprene foam, plastic foam, elastic plastic material, non-slip synthetic material, or the like material.
- the base member 14 has a top surface and a bottom surface.
- the base member 14 should be made from a resilient material which does not slip when placed on a smooth surface.
- the pad 12 also has a cover 18 made from a natural fabric, vinyl, polyester, or the like.
- the cover 18 is adhesively secured or bonded to the top surface of the base member 14 which may be done by laminating, gluing, welding, or otherwise permanently securing the cover 18 to the base member 14.
- the cover 18 may have printed thereon indicia for a particular game such as blackjack.
- the cover 18 may also have various other information printed thereon such as the name of the casino.
- the pad 12 is essentially made from the same material and is formed in the same manner as conventional mouse pads.
- the size and shape of the pad 12 is determined by the size and shape of the gaming table. That is, the pad 12 is cut into the particular shape desired using a template 20 of the board of the table. Preferably, the combined thickness of the cover 18 and the base member 14 is between approximately one-eighth and one-half of an inch.
- the template 20 of the top of the table is placed on the top surface of a length of the pad material 24 which has the cover 18 pre-printed with the desired indicia already secured to the top surface of the base member 14.
- the shape of the template 20 is then cut from the pad material 24 using a knife 26 or another sharp instrument usually used for cutting.
- the opening 28 typically found on a gaming table for storing a tray of chips or the like is also cut out from the pad material 24.
- the length of pad material may be placed on the top of the table and the edges cut to fit the table. The edges may be cut from either underneath or above the table.
- the gaming table includes a rail or sidewalls 30, a base 32, and a table top 34.
- the rail or sidewalls 30 of the table are dismantled by lifting off the rail 30 or removing the screws which secure the top 34 of the table to the rail 30.
- the cut layout 36 is then placed on the top 34 of the table. (See Figure 4.)
- the rail 30 of the table is placed back into position on the table and may be secured thereto. Because of the nature of the material of the pad, the pad is not displaced as the layout is being used. As further reinforcement however, once the rail 30 of the table is placed back into position on the table, the edges of the pad may also be screwed into place, thereby securing the pad on the table.
- the screws are not necessary to secure the sidewalls and/or the pad to the table.
- the pad may be installed as two or more independent pieces which together form one pad.
- the rail 30 is once again removed.
- the pad 12 is then lifted off of the table and is disposed of or stored for reuse.
- the replacement pad is placed onto the table as described above and the table is reassembled.
