Detailed Description of the Invention
The invention will now be described, by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the following diagrammatic drawings, in which
Figure 1 shows, in plan view, a portable seat cushion, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention; and Figure 2 shows, in plan view, a portable seat cushion, in accordance with another embodiment of the invention.
With reference to the drawings, reference numeral 10 generally indicates a portable seat cushion for use in a sauna or steam bath. The cushion 10 includes an upper surface 12 which is shaped and dimensioned to receive, in use, buttocks and male genitalia of a user of the cushion 10. The cushion 10 also includes a lower surface (not shown) shaped and dimensioned to correspond to the upper surface 12, and cushioning (not shown) between the upper surface 12 and the lower surface.
With particular reference to one embodiment of the invention shown in
Figure 1 , the upper surface 12 of the cushion 10 is substantially clover leaf shaped defining a first portion 14 and a second portion 16 each for receiving, in use, a buttock of the user of the cushion 10 and also defining a third portion 18 for receiving, in use, the genitalia of the user of the cushion 10. The first and second portions 14, 16 are each indented to receive, in use, a buttock of the user of the cushion 10. The third portion 18 is also indented to receive, in use, the male genitalia of the user of the cushion 10. With particular reference to another embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 2, the upper surface 12 of the cushion 10 is substantially rectangular having rounded edges and a cut-out portion formed in one side of the cushion thereby defining a first portion 14 and a second portion 16 located towards opposite sides of the cushion 10 adjacent the side having the cut-out portion, the first and second portions each for receiving, in use, a buttock of the user of the cushion 10. The cut-out portion defines a third portion 18 for receiving, in use, the genitalia of the user of the cushion 10. The first and second portions 14, 16 are each indented to receive, in use, a buttock of the user of the cushion 10 whereas the cut-out nature of the third portion 18 receives, in use, the male genitalia of the user of the cushion 10.
With reference to both Figures 1 and 2, the upper surface 12, lower surface and cushioning form a single integral unit made from one substance. The substance is a closed cell foamed polymer typically in the form of a closed cell expanded Polyethylene or closed cell expanded Ethylene Vinyl Acetate, such as those currently available from Sondor Industries under the Trade Mark "Polyfoam". In this embodiment of the invention the closed cell expanded Polyethylene substance "SPX45", available under the Trade Mark "Polyfoam", is used. The substance is resilient, substantially liquid impermeable, and has a high friction coefficient so as to limit, in use, sliding of the lower surface when in contact with a surface having a low friction coefficient, typically a surface of a seating arrangement of a sauna or steam bath. The high friction coefficient of the substance also limits, in use, sliding of the buttocks and upper legs of the user when in contact with the upper surface 12.
The cushion 10 also includes an aperture 20 through a portion thereof so that the cushion 10 can be hung up. The cushion 10 is foldable and is prefolded into a substantially cylindrical folded orientation so that the cushion 10 retains memory of its folded orientation so as to be easily folded back into its folded orientation.
It is to be appreciated that the cushion 10 is to be available in a plurality of different shapes and sizes for different sized users.
The invention also provides a bag (not shown) shaped and dimensioned to contain the portable seat cushion 10 when the portable seat cushion 10 is folded into a substantially cylindrical folded orientation. The bag has a perforated lower portion so as to allow liquid to be released from the bag under the influence of gravity. The bag includes a drawstring proximate an inlet of the bag so as to close the bag by tightening the drawstring.
The Inventor believes it to be advantageous that the portable seat cushion provides a comfortable seat which can be used to prevent a user's buttocks from making contact with a seating arrangement of a sauna or steam bath. The Inventor further believes it to be advantageous that the lower surface of the cushion is made from a substantially liquid impermeable substance so that the lower surface limits absorption of body fluids of previous users of the sauna or steam bath. The substance also has a high friction coefficient so as to limit sliding of the lower surface of the cushion when in contact with the seating arrangement. The Inventor still further believes that the closed cell expanded Polyethylene or closed cell expanded Ethylene Vinyl Acetate substance from which the cushion is made aids in enhancing blood circulation in the buttocks and upper legs of the user thereby aiding relaxation of muscles of the buttocks and upper legs.
