A calling subscriber number displaying apparatus is provided. It is comprised in signal input means which inputs signals having caller's number, signal control means which recognizes the input signals, signal output means which outputs all the signals except the caller's number, and the first memory means which stores the caller's number.

Description

CALL ORIGINATING NUMBER DISPLAY DEVICE FOR WIRED/WIRELESS TELEPHONES
Technical Field
The present invention relates in general to a call originating number display device for wired/wireless telephones, and more particularly to a call originating number display device for wired/wireless telephones which is capable of displaying a telephone number of a call originating telephone on a call terminating wired or wireless telephone to enable a called party to recognize a calling party.
Background Art
Conventional simple wired/wireless telephones generally have no means capable of recognizing a telephone number of a call originating telephone (referred to hereinafter as a call originating number).
For this reason, in order to recognize the call originating number, a called party must purchase and use a multifunction wired or wireless telephone with a telephone number recognition function, in addition to an existing telephone in use.
However, purchasing the multifunction wired or wireless telephone only for the mere purpose of recognizing the call originating number results in waste of resources and an economic burden on the called party.
This applicant previously filed Korean Patent Application, entitled "TELEPHONE USE INFORMATION OUTPUT APPARATUS OF ADAPTER
TYPE", on February 9, 2000. The present invention is a significant functional improvement to a device for displaying a call originating number on the screen so that a user can recogrrize the number, described in the contents of the previous application.
Disclosure of the Invention
Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a call originating number display device for wired/wireless telephones which is capable of displaying a telephone number of a call originating telephone on a call terminating wired or wireless telephone to enable a called party to recognize a calling party, thereby making it possible to prevent the called party from receiving lewd calls, violent calls, mischievous calls, and/or criminal calls.
In accordance with the present invention, the above and other objects can be accomplished by the provision of a call originating number display device for a wired or wireless telephone which is connected to a central office to conduct a telephone conversation, the device comprising call originating number display means including a signal input unit for inputting signals containing a telephone number of a call originating telephone (call originating number) from the central office; a signal controller for recognizing the signals inputted by the signal input unit; a signal output unit for receiving the signals inputted by the signal input unit, except for the call originating number, under the control of the signal controller and outputting the received signals to the wired or wireless telephone; and a first memory for storing the call originating number from the signal input unit under the control of the signal controller.

Best Mode for Carrving Out the Invention Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing the construction of a call originating number display device for a wired telephone in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention and Fig. 2 is a block diagram showing the construction of a call originating number display device for a wireless telephone in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in these drawings, the call originating number display device is applied to a typical wired or wireless telephone 30 which is connected to a central office 20 to conduct a telephone conversation, and comprises a call originating number display unit 10. The call originating number display unit 10 includes a signal input unit 40 for inputting signals containing a telephone number of a call originating telephone (a call originating number) from the central office 20. a signal controller 60 for recognizing the signals inputted by the signal input unit 40, a signal output unit 50 for receiving the signals inputted by the signal input unit 40, except for the call originating number, under the control of the signal controller 60 and outputting the received signals to the wired or wireless telephone 30, and a first memory 80 for storing the call originating number from the signal input unit 40 under the control of the signal controller 60.
The call originating number display unit 10 further includes at least one of a first display 70 and first voice generator 90. The first display 70 is connected to the signal controller 60 to provide a visual indication of the call originating number from the signal input unit 40 to a user, and the first voice generator 90 is connected to the signal controller 60 to provide an aural indication of the call originating number from the signal input unit 40 to the user.
As an alternative, the call originating number display unit 10 may be composed of a remote call originating number display body 100 including a transmitter 120 for receiving the call originating number from the signal input unit 40 under the control of the signal controller 60 and remotely transmitting a radio frequency (RF) signal of the received call originating number.
The call originating number display device further comprises a remote call originating number display unit 1 10 including a receiver 130 for remotely receiving the call originating number RF signal transmitted from the transmitter 120 in the remote call originating number display body 100. a signal processor 140 for processing an output signal from the receiver 130 to extract the call originating number therefrom, and a second memory 160 for storing the call originating number extracted by the signal processor 140.
The remote call originating number display unit 1 10 further includes at least one of a second display 150 and second voice generator 170. The second display 150 is adapted to provide a visual indication of the call originating number extracted by the signal processor 140 to the user, and the second voice generator 170 is adapted to provide an aural indication of the call originating number extracted by the signal processor 140 to the user.
In brief, the call originating number display device of this invention is installable in any existing wired or wireless telephone to readily display a telephone number of a call originating telephone thereon. A detailed description will hereinafter be given of the operation of the call originating number display device with the above-stated construction in accordance with the present invention.
First, in the call originating number display unit 10, the signal input unit 40 is connected to a line of the central office 20, and the signal output unit 50 is connected to the wired or wireless telephone 30. If the signal input unit 40 inputs signals containing a telephone number of a call originating telephone (call originating number) from the central office 20, then the signal controller 60 extracts the call originating number from the signals inputted by the signal input unit 40 and displays it on the first display 70. Further, the signal controller 60 transfers the signals inputted by the signal input unit 40, excluding the call originating number, to the wired or wireless telephone 30 through the signal output unit 50. Preferably, the call originating number from the signal input unit 40 is stored in the first memory 80 and then confirmed through the first display 70 or the first voice generator 90. That is, the first display 70 visually displays the call originating number stored in the first memory 80 on a liquid crystal screen. Also, the first voice generator 90 generates a voice signal corresponding to the call originating number stored in the first memory 80 to aurally indicate the call originating number.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the call originating number display device for the wired or wireless telephone according to the present invention can display a call originating number in a wireless manner, as will hereinafter be descπbed.
First, in the remote call originating number display body 100, the signal input unit 40 is connected to a line of the central office 20, and the signal output unit 50 is connected to the wired or wireless telephone 30. If the signal input unit 40 inputs signals containing a telephone number of a call originating telephone (call originating number) from the central office 20, then the signal controller 60 extracts the call originating number from the signals inputted by the signal input unit 40 and transfers it to the transmitter 120. Then, the transmitter 120 remotely transmits an RF signal of the call originating number from the signal controller 60.
Thereafter, in the remote call originating number display unit 1 10, the receiver 130 remotely receives the call originating number RF signal transmitted from the transmitter 120 in the remote call originating number display body 100 and, in turn, the signal processor 140 processes an output signal from the receiver 130 to extract the call originating number therefrom. Preferably, the call originating number extracted by the signal processor 140 is stored in the second memory 160 and then indicated through the second display 150 or the second voice generator 170 so that it can be confirmed by a user at a remote site.
That is, the second display 150 visually displays the call originating number stored in the second memory 160 on a liquid crystal screen. Also, the second voice generator 170 generates a voice signal corresponding to the call originating number stored in the second memory 160 to aurally indicate the call originating number.
In brief, if the signal input unit 40 inputs a telephone number of a call originating telephone (call originating number) from the central office 20, the remote call originating number display body 100 remotely transmits the inputted call originating number wirelessly to the remote call originating number display unit 1 10. Therefore, the user can confirm the call originating number at any place. Industrial Applicability
As apparent from the above description, the present invention provides a call originating number display device applicable to both existing wired and wireless telephones, resulting in no necessity for replacing the existing wired and wireless telephones with a telephone having a received number output function. Therefore, the present invention has the effect of solving waste of resources and an economic burden to customers resulting from replacement of the existing wired and wireless telephones.
Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.

Claims

Claims:
1. A call originating number display device for a wired or wireless telephone which is connected to a central office to conduct a telephone conversation, said device comprising call originating number display means including: a signal input unit for inputting signals containing a telephone number of a call originating telephone (call originating number) from said central office; a signal controller for recognizing the signals inputted by said signal input unit; a signal output unit for receiving said signals inputted by said signal input unit, except for said call originating number, under the control of said signal controller and outputting the received signals to said wired or wireless telephone; and a first memory for storing said call originating number from said signal input unit under the control of said signal controller.
2. The call originating number display device as set forth in Claim 1 , wherein said call originating number display means further includes at least one of a first display and first voice generator, said first display being connected to said signal controller to provide a visual indication of said call originating number from said signal input unit to a user, and said first voice generator being connected to said signal controller to provide an aural indication of said call originating number from said signal input unit to the user.

The call originating number display device as set forth in Claim 1 , wherein said call originating number display means is composed of a remote call originating number display body including a transmitter for receiving said call originating number from said signal- input unit under the control of said signal controller and remotely transmitting a radio frequency signal of the received call originating number.
4. The call originating number display device as set forth in Claim 3, further comprising remote call originating number display means including: a receiver for remotely receiving said call originating number radio frequency signal transmitted from said transmitter in said remote call originating number display body; a signal processor for processing an output signal from said receiver to extract said call originating number therefrom; and a second memory for storing said call originating number extracted by said signal processor.

The call originating number display device as set forth in Claim 4, wherein said remote call originating number display means further includes at least one of a second display and second voice generator, said second display providing a visual indication of said call originating number extracted by said signal processor to a user, said second voice generator providing an aural indication of said call originating number extracted by said signal processor to the user.
